Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person

“Damn it! What’s that thing?”

Zhang Su was about to light a cigarette when he heard Wang Xin, holding a telescope in one hand and pointing towards the battlefield with the other, exclaim in a voice full of shock.

“What thing?”

There was only one telescope, so the others, curious about what could astonish someone who had survived in the apocalypse for so long, raised their rifle scopes and looked towards the distance.

Zhang Su naturally looked towards the battlefield. Just one glance and the cigarette dangling from his mouth fell to the ground, his mouth agape.

“Quick, the telescope, quick!”

Zhang Su snatched the telescope from Wang Xin’s hand, blinked a few times to moisten his eyes, and upon focusing, his hairs stood on end!

He saw a slender figure, about two people tall, weaving through the zombie horde with extreme speed. Compared to it, the other frenzied zombies seemed to have slowed down, unable to keep pace. It was like an adult playing with kids in a kindergarten.

Under the firelight, Zhang Su finally saw the slender figure’s face. It looked like a stretched zombie’s face, with eyes, nose, and even mouth turned vertical. It lost the feeling of disgust, giving off a chilling terror.

With double zooming, he could even see the color of the slender zombie’s eyes, not the usual blood-red of zombies, but two vertical pure black holes.

The slender zombie leaped, its powerful arms tossing several flaming zombies high into the air like trash, flinging them far away. Hundred-pound objects seemed weightless in its hands; with a stretch of its arm, it pierced through a zombie’s chest, and with a pull, it shattered into pieces.

All this happened in an instant, compared to the slender zombie, the other zombies were as fragile as a joke.

After a round of clearing slaughter, the slender zombie stood in the center of the flames, extending its neck upwards, its elongated mouth howling at the moon.

Awooo!

A few seconds later, a sharp shriek reached Zhang Su’s ears, utterly different from ordinary zombie howls, chilling him to the bone!

Good Fortune, lying at his feet, unusually showed fear, shrinking towards the heel of his foot, tail and ears drooping.

Unfortunately, the ordinary zombies surrounding the slender zombie lacked intelligence, unable to comprehend fear. Quickly, more zombies charged forward.

The blazing flames surrounded the slender zombie again, the attack more intense this time, though it was futile. Burning figures scattered like fireworks, some losing arms and legs, others just a torso.

It was like birds crashing into a jet engine, churned into debris by the turbine blades!

“Zero Zero Four…”

Zhang Su slowly lowered the telescope, heart pounding, and said gravely, “It must be Zero Zero Four!”

“Huh? Brother Su, Zero Zero Four? A subordinate or the boss of Zero Zero Three?”

Wang Xin asked curiously beside him.

“Brother Su, quick, the telescope, let me see…” Lu Yubo impatiently grabbed the telescope to look into the distance.

Zhang Su, with a serious expression, said, “Zero Zero Four is a newly modified zombie by the Cyan Dragon Corps. Xin Qi and the others only know about the project, but they know almost nothing about Zero Zero Four itself. However, they got one thing right, Zero Zero Four is indeed fast, but it’s more than just speed…”

Describing Zero Zero Four with just speed is to underestimate it!

From the brief battle earlier, Zhang Su could tell Zero Zero Four was not only incredibly fast, but also very strong. Its slender arms and legs contained violent power. He wasn’t sure who was stronger compared to Zero Zero Three, but if they fought, he believed Zero Zero Three wouldn’t last ten rounds…

Perhaps Zero Zero Four couldn’t withstand Zero Zero Three’s heavy blows, but only if the bulky Zero Zero Three could catch a glimpse of Zero Zero Four, otherwise, it would be the one being beaten.

Soon, everyone on the rooftop saw Zero Zero Four’s battle through the telescope, the oppression making them feel suffocated and helpless.

“Brother Su, I think… I think even with a gun, we can’t hit that damn thing, damn it, what do we do?”

Lu Yubo, fearless of anything, was a bit flustered, realizing that the powerful firearms he knew might not solve the problem.

“Why doesn’t that thing catch fire? Is it wearing some special material protective suit?”

“If it’s not afraid of fire, then it’s really hard to kill!”

“No, I don’t understand… Why does Zero Zero Four attack zombies? Does it have intelligence?”

A series of unanswered questions left everyone feeling increasingly heavy-hearted. They involuntarily imagined facing Zero Zero Four themselves, feeling they had no chance of winning.

Zhang Su frowned in thought, unsure why Zero Zero Four wouldn’t ignite, but he figured out something else and hurriedly said, “I got it! Those drones earlier, besides two dropping bombs, the others were spraying pheromones similar to those that induce Zero Zero Three’s attacks!”

The others couldn’t see the drones clearly, but he could, and it made perfect sense considering Zero Zero Four’s performance.

“So it’s still a brainless zombie? That’s good, that’s good…”

“Good my ass, it’s scarier than ten thousand ordinary zombies, damn it, how does the Cyan Dragon Corps control it?”

???!!

“Yeah, Zero Zero Three is controlled by electricity. If Zero Zero Four is also controlled by electricity, now it’s jumping around everywhere, no way to catch it, how do they recover it?”

“Electromagnetic cannon, huh.”

“Don’t talk nonsense, if they had an electromagnetic cannon, I’d be Magneto!”

Zhang Su overheard his companions discussing and grinned, saying, “I don’t think the Cyan Dragon Corps intends to recover anything…”

“That’s right, Brother Su makes sense, we’re about to be toast, so let’s go big first!”

In this moment of life and death, who has time to think so much? It’s possible that zero-zero-four is an unfinished product, activated out of necessity.

Reality proves that zero-zero-four’s combat power is quite formidable. With firepower coverage, it’s forcefully resisting the zombie horde’s attack; zombies fall one after another, and the number of corps troops hasn’t continued to decline, stabilizing the situation for now.

“Holy crap, holy crap, holy crap!”

Suddenly, Qi Xiaoshuai exclaimed thrice, pointing towards the direction of the barracks in horror: “It’s on fire, it’s on fire, it’s on fire! That thing’s caught fire!”

Upon hearing this, Zhang Su, who was contemplating how to deal with zero-zero-four, took the binoculars from Qi Xiaoshuai and looked towards the battlefield. Moments later, his expression involuntarily twisted.

“It’s not safe to stay here, let’s go!”

“What’s up, Brother Su, what did you see?”

Everyone descended the stairs, and Lu Yubo asked curiously.

“Zero-zero-four has gone completely berserk!”

Zhang Su said with a tense expression.

Though it’s a modified zombie, zero-zero-four still retains some traits of ordinary zombies. Once ignited, its combat power further enhanced, it leaped twenty to thirty meters in a single bound, and jumped ten meters high in place…

Its flaming arms sliced the sky like a Death God’s scythe, instantly reaping four or five lives on the wall; the solid wall seemed like tofu in front of it, with the firelight passing and causing a section to collapse…

After catching fire, zero-zero-four was no longer simply attracted by pheromones, starting indiscriminate attacks, guns, cannons, grenades, all kinds of hot weapons intertwining, making the scene increasingly chaotic.

But none of this was the key reason for Zhang Su’s urgency to leave!

The key was when zero-zero-four completed another round of massacre, it emitted a piercing shriek towards their location!

That wide-open mouth, the slender teeth and tongue, clearly sensing their presence from a distance of over a thousand meters, Zhang Su felt the aura of slaughter in its hollow eyes.

It seemed to be saying, “Wait, I’ll deal with these bastards first, then come for you!”

“Brother Su, what’s the situation, is the Cyan Dragon Corps about to be wiped out?”

Those waiting by the car saw Zhang Su and his group returning swiftly and immediately asked.

“Get in the car, go! Head back! Quickly!”

Zhang Su didn’t waste any time explaining, jumping straight into the FJ Cruiser.

The tense tone in Zhang Su’s voice made everyone follow suit and scramble into the vehicles.

The convoy turned around, all cars with operable headlights switched them on, speeding off in the direction they came from.

The FJ Cruiser led the convoy, slow on arrival but fast on retreat, hitting over a hundred kilometers per hour, turning the provincial road into a veritable highway.

Inside the vehicles, an air of eerie silence prevailed; those familiar with Zhang Su knew his personality, never having seen him this tense, even slightly panicked.

In the back seat of the FJ Cruiser, Zheng Xinyu glanced at Zhao Dezhu with a puzzled look. Zhao Dezhu responded with exaggerated expressions, hinting not to ask too many questions yet.

“Still alive? Close to dying, close to dying…”

The vehicle raced down the highway, quickly passing the white church, Zhang Su muttered under his breath.

“Buddy, is zero-zero-four catching up?”

Zhao Dezhu, feeling intuitively, asked tentatively.

“Zero-zero-four?”

Before Zhang Su could answer, Xin Qi from the passenger seat exclaimed, turning to ask, “Brother, did you see zero-zero-four?”

“Talk later, let’s get farther away first!”

Speeding like lightning, in less than half an hour, the convoy returned to the Celestial Horse Island entrance, three times faster than when they set out!

During this half hour, the population of the Cyan Dragon Corps had sharply declined to one hundred and fifty…

What terrified Zhang Su was the Cyan Dragon Corps’ population plummeting by stages!

Previously, the decline was one by one, sometimes slow, sometimes fast, but just recently, three to five members were killed at once, and it’s clear whose handiwork that was!
