Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person

“Brother Su, Brother Su!? What’s wrong with you!?”

Just as Zhang Su was experiencing a new world, a hand waved in front of him, startling him to take a half-step back. The scenery in his eyes moved like a camera quickly adjusting its focus, causing a wave of dizziness in his mind.

His eyes had been enhanced, but other hardware performance didn’t match, resulting in this current state…

It was like placing a twelve-cylinder engine on the chassis of a van—pressing the gas pedal might cause it to fall apart instantly.

Zheng Xinyu quickly held onto Zhang Su’s shoulder, filled with concern. “Honey, what’s wrong?”

“No, no…” Zhang Su shook his head with his eyes closed, then slowly opened them. His night vision remained, and the zoom function was deactivated, returning to its original focus, which made him feel much better.

“Maybe a bit of low blood sugar, feeling confused, give me a hand!”

Holding Zheng Xinyu’s hand, Zhang Su sat back in the driver’s seat, rubbed his temples, and a Snickers bar was handed to his mouth.

“Eat one. If it’s low blood sugar, this will help alleviate it.”

Zheng Xinyu nodded confidently.

“Alright, go sit down, we’re about to head out!”

Zhang Su bit the Snickers bar, closed the car door, locked it, and turned back to check on everyone before starting the vehicle. The sight shocked him—there were at least ten people crammed inside the car!

Apart from Zheng Xinyu, Zhong Xiaoshan, Yuwen, Yu Qing, and Zhao Dezhu, who were originally in the Mercedes RV, there were Liu Tianji, Wang Xin, the delivery guy, Jia Shiqin, Xiang Wei, and a woman whose name might be either Tang Xiaoxiao or Tang Xiu!

“What the hell are you all cramming into my car for…”

Complaining, Zhang Su started the vehicle. Fortunately, this RV could carry up to a remarkable six tons, so a few extra people weren’t a problem—just a bit cramped.

Buzz buzz.

The engine roared to life, and as the headlights lit up, Zhang Su noticed that in places where there was a light source, things appeared slightly different in his eyes. The difference was quite noticeable, avoiding the problem of not being able to distinguish the light source during night vision—his view of the world had changed significantly, requiring a bit of adjustment.

He believed that this adjustment wouldn’t be too difficult, like going from frugality to luxury, which was an easy transition.

“We’re off!”

With that, the vehicle started moving. Zhang Su glanced sideways at the increasingly fierce flames of Jinyuan Mall—the fire had spread across the first floor, with more than twenty zombies dancing wildly in the flames, seemingly more frenzied than usual as if releasing their final burst of energy by burning life.

Hours later, the place would be nothing but charred ruins, and whether it would spread to Building B or even farther, was beyond consideration.

It was just past four in the morning, and dawn had yet to break. The flames from Jinyuan Mall soared into the sky, dyeing a swath of the night sky red.

Three vehicles sped along the desolate roads illuminated by the hazy firelight. After confirming the direction, Zhang Su drove towards the military camp stationed on Wenhua Road. Whether there was a chance to obtain weapons from the camp was uncertain, but at least they’d scout it out before deciding.

“Big brother, are you… heading straight there?”

Zhao Dezhu, familiar with Qin City, guessed Zhang Su’s destination after spotting some landmark buildings.

Zhang Su nodded, took a gulp of mineral water from the cup holder, and said, “Yeah, but first, we need to take care of something!”

It was only about four kilometers from Jinyuan Mall to Number One Wenhua Road. After gaining night vision, Zhang Su needed to slow down a bit to avoid losing the two cars following behind.

Moreover, this ability’s secrecy wasn’t like his hearing—it could accidentally be revealed during daily interactions, and Zhang Su didn’t want others to know about this trump card, so he had to be cautious.

Taking a winding route, the convoy didn’t head straight to the destination. Instead, after turning a corner, Zhang Su parked the Mercedes RV in the parking lot at the entrance of a furniture city!

Red Star Meilong was the largest furniture city in Qin City, which typically opened at 9:30 AM. This area also catered to industries related to home decor. The sparse vehicles in the parking lot suggested that during the early morning of the disaster, this area had very few people.

Even after more than half a month, there were only twenty to thirty zombies wandering nearby, some of which were relatively far away, and hadn’t been attracted by the vehicle’s noise.

Thud thud, thud!

Without needing any instructions, everyone disembarked and efficiently dealt with the surrounding zombies, then followed Zhang Su towards the furniture city.

“If someone has already occupied this place, let’s stay friendly. After all, we’re just staying temporarily until dawn and avoiding unnecessary conflicts! Is the door locked?”

Zhang Su briefed his companions as they approached the entrance, only to find a large iron lock hanging on the glass door.

“Let me, let me!”

Wang Xin volunteered, wedged a crowbar into the door, and pried hard. With a crack, the lock remained intact, but the door handle fell off. He scratched his head awkwardly and said, “We can get in now…”

“Either the security personnel didn’t follow procedures, or survivors arrived before the power outage. Otherwise, the anti-theft shutters would have been down.”

Zhang Ya seemed familiar with the situation and whispered softly.

The group entered the furniture city’s lobby one after another, and an odd scent, mixing fragrance with the smell of decaying mud, assaulted their senses. It disoriented everyone, mostly due to the unexpected fragrance.

“Holy shit, looks like it was security negligence! It doesn’t seem like anyone has been here…”

In the darkness, Zhao Dezhu shone his flashlight around curiously. The first floor was wet from recent flooding, but there were no severed limbs or blood stains—just a thin layer of mud, without any footprints!

“It’s normal no survivors came here—food and drink are the most critical resources. There might be some refreshments here to host clients, but certainly not much. The benefits of coming here are too limited; I wouldn’t come either!”
