Roxanna tilted her head to the side as she read the information on the system’s panel. She still couldn’t quite believe that she had 150 days of lifespan left, especially when she had once thought she wouldn’t last more than three days.

Aside from that, she was also kind of surprised when she realized that her husbands’ affection points were already close to halfway.

Actually, even though their affection points were still a bit low, they had always treated her very well. That was why, sometimes, she wondered what they would do for her once their affection reached the maximum.

”Alright, I think we’re ready to continue our journey,” Cyrus said.

After sleeping inside the tent for almost four hours, they finally decided to move on. This time, they felt refreshed and even thought that they could reach the peak in the shortest time possible.

Well, at least that was what they hoped.

In the middle of the journey, the weather turned bad again. The wind blew very strongly, and the temperature grew even colder.

They had to wear many layers of clothing just to survive the freezing weather. Still, when their hands and feet were almost numb from the cold, they decided to stop for a while, gathering together while holding heating stones in their hands.

”Luckily, our water didn’t freeze inside the bag,” Luan said as he took out the waterskin. He drank first, then passed it to Roxanna and Cyrus.

”Yeah, otherwise we’d have to eat snow if the water froze too,” Cyrus added. ”And maybe even eat dirt if our rations froze completely.”

Roxanna barely spoke as they walked.

The cold had crept deep into her body, making it hard to think clearly. Her head felt heavy, and even her thoughts seemed slow.

All the warmth and pleasure they had shared inside the tent a few hours ago were no longer enough to protect them from this biting wind.

It was too cold.

”Honestly...” Luan said after a while, his voice low. ”Are you sure someone really lives in a place like this?”

He turned to Roxanna, his brows slightly furrowed.

”I’m not doubting the voice in your head,” he added gently. ”But... have you seen any signs of life here?”

Luan had a point.

No matter how far they looked, they never saw any signs of life. There were no passing people, no houses built among the snow.

Nothing.

The only thing Roxanna could see was the white snow.

Besides, were deer beastkins really built to survive temperatures this cold? Roxanna would have believed it more if the creatures living here were polar bears.

Oh, wait, weren’t there reindeer? They were deer that lived in the Arctic, right? Roxanna almost forgot about that because the cold had frozen her brain too.

”I... don’t know,” Roxanna admitted softly at last. ”But we’ve already come this far.”

She looked up at the towering peak ahead. ”If we turn back now, it would feel like everything we’ve done so far was for nothing.”

[Is he starting to regret climbing this mountain with me?] Roxanna thought anxiously. Her chest felt a little tight. [But... maybe that’s normal. I mean, who would enjoy spending so much time in a place this cold?!]

She lowered her gaze slightly, feeling uneasy.

Luan let out a heavy sigh and realized that his words had made Roxanna think about things she shouldn’t be worrying about.

Without hesitation, he reached for her hand and held it firmly. ”I didn’t say that because I want to go back,” he said gently. ”I just don’t want you to be disappointed if we reach the top and find nothing.”

He squeezed her hand a little. ”Even so,” he continued softly, ”no matter what we find, I still want us to keep going. There’s nothing wrong with trying until the end.”

After hearing his reassurance, Roxanna finally let out a relieved breath. At least her husbands didn’t end up regretting their decision to follow her to Golden Mountain.

Not long after that, Cyrus spoke up as well. ”If there are really people living here,” he said thoughtfully, ”then they probably built their homes near cliffs to block the wind. Or maybe...” He paused for a moment. ”They might even live underground.”

Usually, only beastkins like mole-type people lived beneath the ground. They were used to digging and hiding in tunnels. But in a place this cold and harsh, anyone would try anything just to survive.

So it wasn’t strange to think that other beastkins might also choose to live underground if they had no other choice.

”Well then... if you’re right, maybe we already passed their houses when we came out from the underground earlier,” she said with a small laugh, just to lighten the mood.

But honestly, she was also worried that what she said casually might actually be true. After all, they had struggled so much just to climb out from below. If they had to go back down again, it would feel like all their hard work had been for nothing.

”There’s no point in guessing,” Luan said calmly. ”Let’s just keep moving.”

Roxanna had just nodded when she suddenly faintly heard a rumbling sound not far from where she was standing.

”What is it?” Cyrus frowned and became more alert to his surroundings.

Before, when they had felt a tremor like this, they had fallen into the underground. But what about now? What would happen next?

Roxanna instinctively reached for her husbands’ hands because she didn’t want to lose them, and she didn’t want any of them to get separated, not even for a second.

Then she looked around, and when she realized that the rumbling sound was coming from above, she lifted her head.

At that moment, her blood turned cold. ”What the...”

High up on the mountain slope, a huge wall of snow and ice was starting to break apart. Thin cracks spread across the white surface like broken glass. Small pieces rolled down first, hitting the rocks and shattering into powder.

Then, not long after that, the entire slope collapsed.

A deafening roar filled the air as countless tons of snow rushed downward like a wild wave.

Roxanna was the first to react. ”RUN!!” she screamed.
