Chapter 2169: Chapter 2170: Contrarian

”Old man Chen, what mischief have you done now, to summon us at such a time?”

Voices of discontent were already rising in the hall. They were busy tracking the whereabouts of the Demon Sect, and this was not the time for additional disturbances.

”You’d better give me an explanation.”

Sitting high in the hall, Liu Qinghan spoke in the same manner.

Already vexed and agitated, there were still those who were troublemakers, which made him extremely displeased.

”Here’s what happened...”

Chen Lin coughed lightly, then slowly explained the whole story.

”Elder Shu, is this true?” Liu Qinghan asked.

At this moment, the elderly man seen earlier at Lin Chen’s residence stood up, slightly bowed to Liu Qinghan, and said, ”It is indeed true, and because this matter is so serious, we thought it best to let the Sect Master decide.”

”Sect rules state that no life should be taken in internal strife. Since the rules are broken to such a severe extent, simply kill him, why waste words? Such cruel methods at such a young age—should we keep him to create future trouble?” One elder spoke, finishing with a sarcastic addition, ”I really don’t know what your law enforcement hall is doing; you can’t find any insights on the Demon Sect, and now for such a trivial matter, you come here to ask—what’s your use?”

Shoo Ning listened with a smile, yet unfazed, not bothering with the elder, he respectfully replied to the Sect Master, ”We do have the authority, true, but given the circumstances at the time, if we had actually killed Lin Chen, the sect’s prestige would have been completely lost, and quite possibly many disciples might have defected.”

”Humph, alarmist talk. You might as well say if you kill this person, the sect would collapse.” The earlier elder showed disdain.

”Though not that exaggerated, indeed if killed on the spot, the consequences would still be significant.” Shu Ning responded.

”Oh?”

Liu Qinghan tapped lightly on the arm of the chair, originally angered by hearing this trivial matter, but following Shu Ning’s words, he frowned, and asked, ”What exactly is going on?”

”Usually, Azure Dragon behaves arrogantly within the sect, bullying disciples everywhere; thus everyone has long been dissatisfied. They’ve had the mind to kill him first and be happy. Now someone acted, naturally everyone praises it, viewing it as eliminating the pest of that gang.”

Shoo Ning slowly explained, ”To these people, Lin Chen’s actions are seen as pest control—if the law enforcement hall killed him without a second thought, it would certainly chill the hearts of many disciples.”

”Ha, your words are clearly misleading the Sect Master, Azure Dragon obviously disciplines the disciples, giving them enough pressure to gain stronger power, how did it become oppression in your mouth?” Again, the elder mocked.

”No need for such words, casually walk around the sect and ask those ordinary disciples. If you can find one who praises Azure Dragon, I’ll retract my words, and the position of this law enforcement elder will be yours!”

Fooled him successively, Shoo Ning became slightly angry; if not for the ban within the law enforcement hall against arbitrary actions, he would have liked to annihilate Azure Dragon, knowing all too well what deeds they have done.

The old man’s expression changed, not daring to respond. Whether startled by Shoo Ning’s wager or unwilling to verify Azure Dragon’s reputation, it’s unknown.

”What? Afraid now? Then shut your damn mouth!”

Shoo Ning cursed.

”Stop arguing.”

Liu Qinghan spoke timely, frowning, ”If things are truly as Shoo Ning said, then this matter is indeed troublesome.”

He sighed lightly, feeling burdened by many troubles. Then, lifting his gaze toward Lin Chen, asked, ”Do you have anything more to say?”

”No, I just want to ask the elders and Sect Master a question.”

Lin Chen held his head high, fearlessly, then slowly spoke, ”If someone threatens the safety of you or your friends, should they die or not?”

”A person ought to be magnanimous, besides, they are the ones dead and you unscathed, showing their threat wasn’t substantial. Being so vicious, do you intend to defend your actions?” The earlier elder retorted, snorting lightly.

”Aiming arrows in the dark is hard to guard against; one cannot live constantly on guard because they’ve been spared,” Lin Chen murmured, rubbing his palm.

”Absurd! Purely deceitful rhetoric. If you genuinely spared him, he might be grateful and wouldn’t covertly attack. Clearly you have an insatiable bloodthirst, yet you push the blame onto others!” The elder continued.

Chen Lin, unable to resist speaking, remarked, ”You’re adept at twisting facts; why not check Sun Tianming’s condition? Poisoned for years by Zhou Han’s gu; a ruthless act, yet still unconscious. Tell me, who’s accountable for this?”

”Then blame him more!”

The elder pointed at Lin Chen, ”If he’d let Zhou Han go, maybe Zhou Han would remove the poison, wouldn’t that be better?”

”Wonderfully said! You’re indeed a master of absurd persuasion.” Chen Lin chuckled, flabbergasted, finding this reasoning the most peculiar he’s ever witnessed; troublemakers turn into the innocent.

”So according to your reasoning, as long as everyone remains magnanimous and continually tolerant, peace would be upon us?” Lin Chen quietly asked.

”Indeed, precisely so! Yet, it’s your murderous nature that’s problematic; Zhou Han wouldn’t trouble you—a single hand doesn’t clap alone.” The elder hinted, gazing at Lin Chen.

”Hmm, truth be told, you may be right.” Lin Chen seemed pensive, lightly nodding, as if he’d reached an understanding.

”Lin Chen, you...” Chen Lin’s face showed astonishment, interjecting.

”Old Chen, even this kid has higher awareness than you.” The elder happily mocked Chen Lin.

”But I remain puzzled by one thing; hope the elder can clarify.” Lin Chen slightly bowed, respectful.

”Go on.”

”Then why pursue the Demon Sect’s whereabouts? If you showed tolerance, perhaps they’d depart in gratitude instead of opposing our Green Ripple Sect?”

Lin Chen smiled lightly, yet within his smile, a grimness lingered, leaving everyone momentarily stunned.
