Chapter 548: Chapter 549: Not listening to the elderly’s words

Xia Qingqing looked at Lin Chen with disgust, even feeling that he was utterly disgracing the people of China.

A grown man, yet with the mean spirit of a petty commoner, and excessively lecherous too—now, Xia Qingqing’s impression of Lin Chen had hit rock bottom.

”I will interfere in this matter, so move aside!” Xia Qingqing said furiously.

Hearing the quarrel between the two, many nearby passengers also began to blame Lin Chen.

”This young man looks spirited, how can he have no compassion at all.”

”Exactly, he doesn’t do good himself, and stops others as well. Such people are despicable.”

”Could it be that he is in cahoots with the thief?”

...

Listening to the wave of accusations, Lin Chen shook his head helplessly, knowing that if he didn’t get up, he would certainly become the public enemy in the carriage.

With no choice, Lin Chen stepped aside to make room, letting Xia Qingqing pass.

Xia Qingqing approached the woman and helped her up, ”Auntie, don’t worry, how much money did you lose?”

Finally receiving some attention, the woman ceased her crying and sobbed, ”One hundred thousand yuan, all the money for my son’s medical treatment!”

”That much?” Xia Qingqing was stunned for a moment; she had wanted to aid the woman but only had a bit more than ten thousand yuan in her pocket.

At that moment, as if seeing something, the woman suddenly reached into Xia Qingqing’s pocket, ”My wallet, this is my wallet.”

Startled, Xia Qingqing’s face turned to surprise as she exclaimed, ”Auntie, what are you talking about? I didn’t take your wallet!”

But the woman fiercely grabbed Xia Qingqing, ”Didn’t take it? Then how is my wallet in your pocket? You must be the thief.”

Saying so, she opened the wallet, and her expression became even more ferocious, ”My money, my money is all gone, you must have transferred it, you thief.”

Hearing the woman’s words, Xia Qingqing stood frozen in shock.

”Auntie, I really didn’t take your wallet. It wasn’t me!”

The woman bellowed menacingly, ”Bullshit, the wallet was clearly in your pocket, everyone saw it. If not you, then did the wallet fly into your pocket itself?”

Xia Qingqing’s arm turned red from being grabbed, and she struggled desperately, with tears of grievance welling in her eyes.

She had felt sympathy for this woman who lost her wallet while trying to treat her child, but how did things turn out this way, turning her into a thief?

”It wasn’t me, it really wasn’t me.”

At that moment, a few burly men came over and surrounded Xia Qingqing, ”This girl looks so innocent but turns out to be a thief. Let’s take her to the police station when we get off.”

”Right, such a pretty girl, could have done anything good, yet chose to be a thief.”

A wave of scornful voices also arose in the carriage.

”I’m not a thief. I’ve been sitting in my seat all this while and haven’t moved at all,” Xia Qingqing argued anxiously, her eyes filled with hope, wishing someone would stand up and vouch for her.

However, everyone in the carriage was indifferently watching the scene, not moving an inch.

In fact, most of the group knew each other, specializing in extortion along this line and even trafficking girls who were tricked to brothels. They committed crimes as a gang—no one dared to meddle in their affairs.

Watching the cold eyes of the crowd, Xia Qingqing finally despaired. She suddenly remembered what Lin Chen had said earlier, ”Don’t get involved in other people’s business, it will bring trouble.”

At this moment, Xia Qingqing deeply regretted not listening to Lin Chen’s advice.

Without saying a word, the burly man rummaged through Xia Qingqing’s wallet, sneering, ”So this girl is also from Huaxia, huh? I’ve seen too many of these Huaxia garbage who specialize in stealing others’ belongings.”

The woman pulled out all the money from Xia Qingqing’s wallet and was about to put it into her own pocket.

”Don’t take my wallet!” Xia Qingqing struggled, but her arms were held by two burly men, making it impossible for her to move.

”You little thief, how dare you struggle!” said the woman, swinging her arm and slapping towards Xia Qingqing’s face.

Xia Qingqing, frightened, turned pale and desperately closed her eyes.

However, the sound of the slap did not come, and there was no pain on Xia Qingqing’s face. She opened her eyes to find the woman’s hand firmly held by a large hand, and her wallet was in Lin Chen’s hand.

”You see, not listening to the elderly, suffering is right in front of you!” Lin Chen said, shaking his head helplessly.

”It’s him!” The girl, with surprise on her face, managed to break free from the two burly men and frantically hid behind Lin Chen.

”I was wrong, I know I was wrong, please save me,” Xia Qingqing pleaded fearfully to the fierce looking woman and the burly man.

”Beauty, now that I have saved you, can I look at you a bit longer?” Lin Chen said with a light smile.

Xia Qingqing’s mouth twitched; this guy was still thinking about such things even in such a critical moment.

”Fine, fine, just save me, and you can look however you want, even read my palm,” Xia Qingqing said, having realized she had fallen into a scam. The law enforcement in this country was not as good as in Huaxia. If she were dragged off the bus, her fate would be very bleak.

Lin Chen smiled lightly and said, ”Alright, then it’s a deal. I’ll sort this out for you.”

Seeing Lin Chen’s confident expression, Xia Qingqing felt a surge of relief, ”Yes, these people are definitely fraudsters; chase them away quickly!”

Hearing Xia Qingqing’s words, Lin Chen shook his head, ”Look at them, fierce and menacing; how can I fight them?”

Xia Qingqing was stunned for a moment, ”Then what will you do?”

Lin Chen smiled lightly, ”Call the police, let the police handle it.”

Upon hearing about calling the police, Xia Qingqing’s face turned even grimmer. All the evidence was against her, and calling the police would just get her arrested. What worried her more was that she had heard that police stations in this country were very dark and it was common for male officers to abuse female prisoners.

When Lin Chen mentioned calling the police, the woman and the burly man’s faces slightly changed, showing traces of panic.

The woman quickly said, ”Forget it. Seeing that this girl is a first-time offender, if she compensates me for the lost money, I’ll let her go.”

Lin Chen looked at their panicked expressions and slightly raised his lips, ”No, we must call the police.”

As he spoke, he also comforted Xia Qingqing, ”Beauty, don’t worry. Theft in this country doesn’t lead to a heavy sentence, at most ten years.”

Damn!

Xia Qingqing almost cursed out loud. She was just nineteen, in the prime of her youth. Spending ten years locked up would mean coming out at twenty-nine. There was no way she could let that happen.

Hearing Lin Chen’s threats, the middle-aged man also put on a peacemaker’s demeanor, ”Come on, little sister, just compensate this big sister here, and we won’t call the police.”

At this moment, Xia Qingqing bit her lip and finally made up her mind, ”Fine, I’ll pay the money!”
