Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

Time passes day by day, and everyone watches as the perimeter wall is slowly constructed, followed by the buildings within the interior wall.

These buildings, as planned, are only three stories tall, with enough room to accommodate two to three hundred people.

One evening, as the perimeter wall was completed and the construction of the interior buildings was underway,

just as work was about to cease for rest, a few civilians from Safe City suddenly rioted, then grabbed rebars, stabbed one of He Chao’s subordinates, and madly ran towards the grove of trees.

Other civilians of Safe City instantly joined the riot.

The previous deaths of some civilians did not serve as a lesson for them, and this time Li Yu went on a killing spree, continuously shooting seven or eight civilians before the rest calmed down.

And they were not allowed to eat anything that day.

After this lesson, these civilians no longer dared to rebel.

And the brother under He Chao who had been injured was not seriously hurt, just bled a bit, and was bandaged up.

...

Time flies by quickly.

After the collective efforts of the civilians of Safe City, He Chao, Li Yu, and others, construction was finally completed after half a month.

On this windy evening with trees swaying, Li Yu sat in the duty room watching the shaking trees, feeling a sense of the inevitable.

His heart at peace.

Walking out from the duty room and seeing the completed perimeter wall, Li Yu found it difficult to be happy.

He knew, it was time to kill.

Third Uncle and others were aware of these people’s ultimate fate, their time had come now that the walls and houses were constructed...

Li Yu, with the people from the base, drove them to a cliff near the base.

Gunfire.

Piercing screams.

The end.

Finish them off.

Toss the bodies down the cliff.

Return to the ranks, back home.

Through this process, Li Yu wore no expression on his face as he and others from the base carried out these deeds.

It was a difficult task for Li Yu’s conscience, but it had to be done.

First and foremost, these people were invaders; there should be no mercy for invaders.

By coming to Tianhua Town, they were clear in their intent to seize other people’s food; having chosen this path, they must bear the consequences.

Furthermore, although Hua Chuanlong was the mastermind, they were accomplices, having caused harm to the people in the base, with individuals like Ding Jiu and Li Tie nursing injuries.

During this time, there were also those who attempted to flee, but were shot by Li Yu and others.

Sheltering them would require food supplies, and managing them would be difficult; the addition of over a hundred people was a significant challenge for the current state of the base.

In this post-apocalyptic world, there is no absolute justice, nor is there absolute evil.

Everyone is simply fighting for their own interests, trying to survive.

For Li Yu, morals rank second in his heart; the first priority is to protect his people in the base, his family.

Even if it torments him, it is a lesser evil than neglecting his duties and causing casualties among his people, living with lifelong regret.

He has seen too many examples, even in movies and TV shows before the apocalypse...

It’s tough, but he convinces himself.

He is not grand enough, his ambitions not far-reaching; he does not wish to shoulder the burden of saving humanity...

He has accepted himself, he is clear about what he wants.

What he seeks, from before he was reborn to a year after his return, has not changed: to protect his family, his friends, and to survive well in this morally degenerate world.

The path of the Hero, the Pioneer, is difficult, lonely, and often faced with choices, faced with decisions.

One must sometimes let go of familial love, friendships, or even romantic love,

to make decisions for the supposed greater picture.

Even if revered by thousands, leaving a good name for posterity.

But he does not want it; he only wants to properly accompany and protect those who love him, and whom he loves.

In some sense, Li Yu is invincible, for his heart no longer bears the conflict of choice, having overcome the constraints of morality.

...

In the silent night, Li Yu stands atop the perimeter wall, noticing that He Chao and others have moved their belongings inside the interior wall.

Under the bright lights, Li Yu sees them tidying up, distributing rooms.

After watching for a while, he leaves the perimeter wall.

As communicated with He Chao and others, they plan to set up fixed observation points within four kilometers along the national highway, within range of walkie-talkie communication in the future.

By the national highway, there are often some houses, especially some gas stations, and some long-distance bus diners and such.

The buildings can reach four or five stories, making it a small marketplace in the village.

And not too many people are needed for each shift at the observation, just two are enough to monitor any passersby in the vicinity.

Around the base where Li Yu and others reside, it is mostly mountainous and forested, making it difficult for a large-scale influx of zombies or humans to pass through from the woods; most come from the open national highway.

So controlling the north and south directions of the highway is enough to prevent most dangers in advance.

Back at the base, Li Yu finds Third Uncle and others, discussing matters concerning Safe City.

Villa district’s meeting hall.

Li Yu sits on a chair, looks at Second Uncle, Third Uncle, and the rest, quiets down for a moment then speaks, ”The plan for expanding the base construction at the beginning of the year, in terms of the exterior wall construction, has now been completed ahead of schedule.

The indoor stadium in the interior is not urgent; we can build it slowly.

The problem now is with Safe City; they’ve come twice, and I think we can’t wait any longer.

Spring planting is soon and we cannot allow them to come again at this critical moment, especially since it hasn’t rained much recently, I think it’s time to completely eradicate any lingering threats.”

Second Uncle then speaks up, ”Yes, I think it’s feasible. From what we’ve learned from those people, the current population of Safe City isn’t actually that high.

Moreover, they’re short on ammunition, though we can’t guarantee they won’t find new supply methods. Although it’s difficult, we need to act quickly to avoid further complications.”

Uncle suddenly asks, ”How many of us should go?”

This is a critical question; although there are over a hundred people in the base, even with He Chao and his men, there are only just over a hundred and fifty people.

Who should go? And how many? This is a key issue.

Li Yu takes up Uncle’s question and responds, ”This time, I’d like to take some of He Chao’s men with us.

Concerning the number of people, I think we should not exceed 40, as too many will leave the base vulnerable.

I think bringing ten or so of He Chao’s men, with no more than 30 from the base’s personnel.”

After finishing, Li Yu suddenly turns to Third Uncle and says, ”Third Uncle, you’ve been through there before, what if we go together this time?”

Third Uncle takes a drag on his cigarette, nods, and says, ”I’ve got no problem with that.”
