My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers

Chapter 404: Chapter 404: Big Brother Has His Eyes on a Policewoman

Everyone had just been praising Elara Morgan’s quick reactions. They fell silent in an instant, all turning to look at the chief standing in the doorway.

The chief waved the file in his hand and said, ”Remember those two we caught surveilling the station a while back?

They’ve given up a lot. Aside from the addresses of some of their accomplices, they also revealed one of their boss’s hideouts.”

Heath Hale frowned. ”They can’t be stupid enough to stay there after someone’s been caught, right?”

’Knowing an accomplice has been caught and there’s a high chance they’ve been ratted out, would anyone really continue to live at the original address?’

”That’s why we need Sawyer to go confirm. If anyone’s still there, arrest them on the spot. If not, pull the surveillance footage and find out where this group went.

The higher-ups have given the order. We need to apprehend this group and bring them to justice as soon as possible.” The chief waved his hand, answering the questions from Heath Hale and the others.

Just as Zoe Sawyer was looking at the case file in her hands, about to open the door to check the situation, there was another knock on the office door.

”Chief, a subordinate precinct reported a new case. The situation is a bit complicated, they can’t handle it right now, and they’ve got a lot on their plate. They’re hoping we can take it over,” the captain of Team Two said, looking at the chief who was standing in the hallway.

The chief turned, looked at the man, and then said, ”I understand. Leave the case file in my office. I’ll look at it later.

You guys finish up the work you have on hand first. I’ll get back to you with an answer as soon as possible.”

”Roger that.”

The captain of Team Two acknowledged and hurried away.

’They really had their hands full. If this case ended up with them after all, overtime would be unavoidable.’

Meanwhile, Zoe Sawyer had memorized the addresses provided by the chief and opened the door to check on the situation.

Just as Heath Hale had said, the locations given up by the two captured men were deserted. A thick layer of dust covered the floor and tabletops, looking as if no one had been there for a long time.

The last address was also empty. Just as Zoe Sawyer was about to close the door, the door to this room was suddenly thrown open.

A group of people flooded in from outside.

Zoe Sawyer instinctively pulled the door shut, leaving only a crack. She made a hand signal to the team behind her, telling them to be quiet.

Evan Keller and the others, who had been discussing in low voices, instinctively fell silent upon seeing Zoe Sawyer’s signal. They stared intently at the crack in the door, trying to hear what was about to happen.

Zoe Sawyer carefully slipped a miniature camera through the opening. The situation inside the room quickly appeared on the laptop screen next to the door.

As for Evan Keller, after confirming the specific location of the last room from Zoe Sawyer, he took half the team and rushed over at top speed.

’Since we don’t have the boss’s address right now, we’ll grab his underlings first. Then we’ll get the boss’s location out of them!’

”Dammit. Ever since those two got caught, the boss called us all back and told us to move somewhere else to lay low for a while.”

”But he just gives the orders with a flick of his tongue, without even thinking about whether we have any money!” a man in shabby clothes and shoes with peeling soles said, exasperated.

’I seriously don’t have a single cent left!’

’My expenses have always been high. Before, when there were missions and jobs, the boss would pay, so I could get by.’

’But now, a lot of the female boss’s operations have been cracked down on and shut down, and I haven’t had work in a long time.’

’The meager savings I had were used up long ago!’

’Not to mention I constantly have to bring the boss food and water, and I’ve never been reimbursed for any of it!’

”Exactly! Didn’t we get into this line of work because the money was fast and we wouldn’t have to worry about cash?

Now we don’t have a cent, and he still expects us to risk our lives for him. Does he think we’re all tied to the same sinking ship, so he has nothing to fear?” another, younger man kicked the wall, his voice filled with a strange agitation.

The other few men chimed in, all condemning the boss for being stingy and broke.

Zoe Sawyer noticed that among the group, a sturdy man had remained silent, just sitting to one side smoking. He finally spoke up, ”Alright, that’s enough. We’re all just grasshoppers on the same rope now. If one of us gets caught, the rest are finished.

Just lay low and stay here for a few days. The boss is already preparing to contact the female boss and report the situation here truthfully.”

The man who had complained first fell silent for a few minutes after hearing this. Finally, he couldn’t help but ask, ”Wait, that’s not right. I remember the boss saying before that if this surveillance mission failed, the female boss wouldn’t spare him.

Why the sudden decision to report truthfully?”

’If the boss gets purged, life won’t be easy for us grunts working under him either.’

’We’d be lucky not to be sent to a human flesh factory in Coralia!’

The sturdy man shook his head and took a deep drag from his cigarette. ”The photos sent back by the two who got caught have all been used up.

The boss has targeted a female cop. He’s figured out her usual schedule and is planning to find a chance to grab her. Then he’ll use some... methods. He’s bound to get something out of her.”

’I just don’t know if whatever he gets will be enough for the female boss to let them off the hook.’

The sturdy man dropped his cigarette butt on the ground, crushed it viciously under his foot, and said in a fierce tone, ”When the time comes, we’ll grab the cop’s family too. We can torture them to death by a thousand cuts right in front of her, or inject them with high-purity drugs. We’ll just see who breaks first.”

’This cop might have been trained for this kind of thing, but her family hasn’t!’

’If going after her family doesn’t work, there’s always the last resort.’

’For example, the children at a nearby kindergarten, or their families. We can always find a suitable candidate.’

Recalling the look on the boss’s face when he said this, the sturdy man couldn’t help but shiver.

’No wonder he’s the boss. An ordinary person could never handle his level of ruthlessness.’

Hearing this, the other men in the room were stunned for a moment, then looks of pleasant surprise spread across their faces.

’Does this mean they’d be getting paid soon?’

But someone sensed something was off. He stared at the sturdy man who had just spoken and asked, ”And how do you know so much?”

The others also stopped their discussions and looked over.

’Yeah, we’re all just grunts here. You’re not one of his confidants, so why do you know so much?’

”That’s also why I called you all here. The boss has entrusted this matter to me. He wants me to pick a few brothers to handle it and complete this mission.” The sturdy man took a few steps forward to stand before the group, his arms crossed over his chest as he spoke.

”The boss said that as long as we capture her, there will be a special reward.”
