My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers

Chapter 376: Chapter 376: Barry Quinn! Come Back

The leader looked at the closed warehouse door, then at Zoe Sawyer. A smile curled his lips, and his tone held a hint of temptation. ”Sawyer, what do you think? How would you like to stay and work for me?

As for salary and benefits, how about I double them? This is much easier than opening doors and running to the scene at a moment’s notice. You’d just need to occasionally open a door like you did just now to transfer some supplies.”

With such a valuable asset, the safety of the agency’s high-risk missions would be significantly enhanced.

Heath Hale, who had been standing silently beside Zoe Sawyer, was suddenly on high alert. ’He’s trying to poach her!’

Heath Hale took a step forward, about to stop the leader from saying any more, but the man noticed and spoke first, ”Caleb, don’t be anxious either. Right now, isn’t Sawyer’s opinion the most important thing?

Let’s let her decide for herself.”

His tone was gentle, but the power hidden within it still startled Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale.

But on second thought, it made sense. How could the leader in charge of such an important agency be an ordinary person?

The leader watched Zoe Sawyer with a broad smile, awaiting her answer.

’Sure, this is a little unethical,’ he thought, ’but if I can snag a prize like her, it’ll be worth it, even if I get an earful later!’

Zoe Sawyer shook her head, rejecting the leader’s proposal. ”No, thank you, sir. I’m quite happy at the police department.

If you ever need my help, you can just give me a call like you did this time. As long as I’m free, I can come right over. It’s very convenient, really. There’s no need for me to switch jobs for that to happen.”

Although he had been rejected, the leader didn’t seem too disappointed.

Success would have been ideal, but failure didn’t cost him anything. He had even gotten a promise from Zoe Sawyer.

If a mission required it, he could call her directly, and she would come right over if she had time.

When he thought about it that way, there really wasn’t much difference from having recruited her.

The leader sighed with a hint of regret but didn’t press the issue. ”Alright, since you’ve put it that way.

However, you can’t go back just yet. Barry Quinn’s situation is unclear, so I’ll have to trouble you to keep waiting here. If there’s a problem, you can open a door at any time.”

Zoe Sawyer had already prepared herself for this when she came over, so she nodded in agreement without the slightest hesitation.

”Alright, I’ll leave you two alone. Get some rest.” The leader patted Heath Hale’s shoulder and left with his hands clasped behind his back.

’Damn it, I couldn’t poach her.’

’How did that old guy get so lucky, digging up a treasure like her?’

The more he thought about it, the more jealous the leader became. ’Why don’t I ever have this kind of luck!’

After the leader left, Zoe Sawyer looked at Heath Hale. Seeing the slightly wounded look in his eyes, she quickly raised her hand and declared, ”I didn’t agree, really!

I’m still with the police department!”

Perhaps amused by her gesture, a soft chuckle escaped Heath Hale’s throat.

The next moment, Heath Hale raised a fist to his mouth, cleared his throat, and said in a mock-serious tone, ”Excellent work, Sawyer. When we get back, I’ll put in a request with the cafeteria for you to get a serving of the head chef’s secret fried rice.

Hmm, and how about I give you half a day off? No training?”

”Then I thank Coach Hale for his magnanimity.” Zoe Sawyer grinned and gave Heath Hale a mock salute.

The two of them bantered for another moment before sitting down by the door. Their full attention was on the communicator in front of them, afraid they might miss Barry Quinn’s call if it came.

About three hours passed. Just as Zoe Sawyer was about to stand up and stretch, the communicator rang urgently again.

”Zoe Sawyer? Open a door! I have several wounded team members here who need immediate medical attention.” Barry Quinn rattled off his location while warily watching his surroundings, occasionally firing a shot to repel the enemies pursuing them from behind.

”Okay!” Zoe Sawyer didn’t hesitate for a second. She leaped up and opened a door to the address Barry Quinn had provided.

Meanwhile, the two people stationed at the entrance, who had been monitoring the situation, heard the contents of Barry Quinn’s call and immediately contacted the leader, telling him to arrange for doctors and stretchers to come over as quickly as possible.

As soon as she opened the door, she saw the group standing before it, looking even more battered and blood-soaked than they had three hours ago.

The occasional crack of gunfire could still be heard from behind them. It was obvious the battle was fierce.

”Get in here, quick!” Zoe Sawyer waved them over, her voice filled with anxiety.

’I knew this mission was dangerous, but I never expected it to be this bad!’

It hadn’t been that long, yet they looked like they’d been fished out of a pool of blood. There didn’t seem to be a single uninjured spot on any of them.

”No, just take the wounded through. If we all go in, we’ll lose our intel on this area.

It won’t be so easy to get back in next time.” Barry Quinn’s back was to Zoe Sawyer, his hand gripping a pistol, his eyes full of vigilance.

They had found the enemy’s main base in this region, and the enemy had sent more than half their forces to hunt them down.

If they hadn’t restocked on ammunition earlier, they would have already run out of weapons to fight back with!

Zoe Sawyer stepped aside, gesturing for the others to quickly bring the wounded over.

After hearing what Barry Quinn said, Zoe Sawyer’s eyes went wide. She pulled out an enhanced surveillance monitor she’d already prepared. ”What are you so worried about when I’m here? If I want to, I can make it so those people can’t see the door. I just need to open a small crack to pass this through, and we can still see what’s happening over there, can’t we?

Stop dawdling and get over here!

Monkey! Drag Barry Quinn over here!”

Seeing Barry Quinn still standing there, unmoved, Zoe Sawyer stomped her foot in frustration and shouted to Monkey, who was next to him.

Having previously acted as Zoe Sawyer’s bodyguard, his trust in her was practically maxed out.

After hearing Zoe Sawyer’s command, he glanced at Barry Quinn and, without another word, reached out and started pulling him toward the door.

Barry Quinn wanted to resist, but when he saw the wounds on Monkey’s hands and feet, he didn’t dare to struggle too hard.

And just like that, half-resisting and half-complying, he was pulled inside.

The moment he was inside, Zoe Sawyer slammed the door shut, cutting off any thought Barry Quinn had of going back.

Barry Quinn was about to say something when he heard his former leader’s voice. ”That’s enough, Barry Quinn. What Sawyer did was the right thing. The mission is important, but your safety is important too.

Let your team members rest and have their wounds treated.”

Everyone followed the sound of the voice and saw the leader standing at the office doorway, directing the doctors who had followed him to treat the wounds of the team members gasping for breath against the wall.

Barry Quinn glanced at the team members around him. Seeing their injuries, the tension that had been gripping him finally broke. ”I’m sorry. I was too hasty.”

”We all know. Don’t worry, we definitely won’t let this mission fail!”
