My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers

Chapter 352: Chapter 352: Mason Walker

Colleague A, who had been about to say something, took out his phone. After a quick search, he gasped, ”A human skull is incredibly hard. If someone accidentally fell into a meat grinder, even an industrial-grade one like ours, it would most likely jam and set off an alarm.”

That meat grinder in Workshop Two was just replaced less than two years ago. It’s in prime condition.

If there was a foreign object in there, it shouldn’t have been quiet all night long!

”Shh! Keep your voice down!” Hearing Colleague A, a frightened Colleague C clapped a hand over his mouth.

He glanced left and right, and only after making sure no one else was around did he glare at the other man. ”The police have to know that! My friend told me this probably wasn’t an accident.

The police have sealed off the whole factory and are getting ready to pull all the surrounding surveillance footage. I heard that when the factory director found out, he looked absolutely livid.

He was talking about not being able to make shipments and all that. My friend told us to be careful. If the director hears us talking about this, we’ll get fined!”

’The director looked livid?’

Arthur Sullivan couldn’t help but frown. ’But when I ran into the director just now, while he wasn’t in a great mood, he definitely didn’t look livid.’

’Did something else happen in the meantime?’

”What are you all chatting about? It’s working hours. Get to work!

Arthur, hurry up and get Mason Walker’s file together. Bring it to me. We need to handle comforting the family so they don’t try to extort us later.

Bring it to my office when you’re done.” The factory director, his face grim, knocked on the HR office door.

After glaring at the four people huddled together, the director turned to Arthur Sullivan and repeated his order.

”Yes, sir. I’ll get it ready right now,” Arthur Sullivan quickly replied. The other three immediately scattered, afraid that huddling together had angered the director.

Jobs were hard to find these days. Getting fired over something like this would be a disaster.

The director glanced at the four employees now engrossed in their work, gave a nearly imperceptible snort, and turned to leave.

Once they were sure he was gone, Colleague B cautiously poked his head out. ”Arthur, was the employee who died named Mason Walker?

How come I’ve never heard of him?”

Arthur Sullivan’s heart skipped a beat. He grunted in acknowledgment before adding, ”That’s right. He was a floater, went wherever he was needed. But he was usually only there for half a day or so.

There are a lot of employees at the factory. It’s normal not to have heard of everyone.”

As he spoke, Arthur Sullivan’s hands never stopped moving. He quickly finished preparing ”Mason Walker’s” file.

Just as he was about to leave, Arthur Sullivan heard Colleague C’s confused voice. ”Wait, that’s not right. Doesn’t the director of Workshop Two hate using floaters like that? He always complains it’s too much trouble to train them.”

Arthur Sullivan’s steps faltered for a second before he started walking again, heading toward the director’s office.

When Arthur Sullivan entered with the file, he saw the factory director, two police officers, and the director of Workshop Two inside the office.

”Ah, Arthur’s here. Did you bring Mason Walker’s file?” The director waved Arthur Sullivan over with unusual enthusiasm, then turned to the officers standing nearby. ”Arthur is our factory’s best HR specialist. He remembers details about a lot of our staff.

If you two have any questions, feel free to ask him directly.”

The director of Workshop Two quickly nodded and added a few words of praise, backing up the factory director.

Arthur Sullivan’s stomach clenched. His fingers instinctively tightened into fists, his knuckles turning white from the pressure.

But he still managed to force a smile for the two officers.

The older officer in the lead noticed Arthur Sullivan’s subtle reaction. He gave the man’s expression a discreet glance but didn’t call him out on it. Instead, he just nodded and asked a few questions about ”Mason Walker.”

He asked about ”Mason Walker’s” family, his relationships with colleagues at the factory, and his general behavior.

Arthur Sullivan flipped through the file, trying to recall the details he had fabricated.

Ten-some minutes later, he had somehow managed to muddle through their questions.

Once they confirmed they had no more questions, the director waved Arthur Sullivan away, telling him to get back to work.

After leaving the director’s office, Arthur Sullivan hesitated at the door for a moment before turning and heading toward Workshop Two.

Back in the office, after Arthur had gone, the two officers closed their notebooks. ”We have a general idea of the situation now,” one said to the director. ”We’ll need to seal off the crime scene for the time being.

Moving forward, we may need cooperation from some of your employees for other procedures. We’ll need you two to communicate that to them when the time comes.”

The director nodded repeatedly. ”Yes, yes, of course. I understand.”

Once they were out of the office building and on their way to the workshop, the older officer suddenly spoke. ”After the workers get off their shift today, Lynn, you and Mills go find that Arthur Sullivan. He knows something.”

Lynn sounded puzzled. ”Why, sir?”

”Do you remember the birthday, personal preferences, or work details of the head chef at the precinct cafeteria?

At most, we know the chef’s name and whether he can cook or not. Who has time to remember all that?” The older officer, frustrated by his protégé’s slow uptake, slapped him on the back of the head. ”This is a huge factory with ten thousand workers.

It would be perfectly normal for an HR guy to remember the deceased’s family background and basic personal information when pulling the file for a case like this.

But how would he know that Mason Walker liked to find a corner after meals, kick his feet up, and scroll through videos on his phone?”

Lynn still didn’t seem to get it. ”What if they were friends, or just knew each other well?”

”If they were good friends, his first reaction to the news would have been shock, fear, and disbelief. But Arthur Sullivan, while he did look shocked, seemed more guilty than anything else.” The older officer broke down his observations, teaching his apprentice piece by piece.

Seeing the look of realization dawn on Lynn’s face, he added, ”That Arthur Sullivan will probably go check out the scene. Slow down a little, and you’ll see him soon enough.”

Sure enough, things went exactly as he’d predicted.

As the older officer and Lynn approached the crime scene, they spotted Arthur Sullivan standing in a corner not far away.

He didn’t get close. Instead, he hid behind a tree, craning his neck and standing on his tiptoes to peer in the direction of the crime scene.

Perhaps afraid of being seen, he stood there for a few more minutes before turning and leaving the corner.

Only after Arthur Sullivan was completely gone did Lynn emerge from behind his mentor.

The older officer watched Arthur Sullivan’s retreating figure, his tone absolutely certain.

”He definitely knows something. He might be the breakthrough we need in this case.”
