Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce

”Grandma, you can’t say that. If your real granddaughter heard you, she’d probably think I’ve cast some kind of spell on you,” Chloe Reed said, pretending to be serious.

Then, she smiled again. ”Grandma, when she comes back, we can be like sisters. You have to learn to be fair to both of us. It won’t do if you’re too nice to her. I’ll get jealous, you know.”

She said it jokingly, but she was actually trying to stop the old woman from having any wild ideas.

Since it wasn’t yet certain if Vera Holloway was the old woman’s biological granddaughter, she naturally wouldn’t touch those things.

If Vera Holloway really was her granddaughter, then everything would depend on her attitude toward the old woman.

If she was a dutiful granddaughter, Chloe Reed would consider sparing her life.

But if she treated the old woman poorly, Chloe wouldn’t hold back!

For now, Chloe Reed just hoped that Vera Holloway wasn’t the old woman’s biological granddaughter. That way, she wouldn’t have to face a dilemma in the future.

She rested her head directly on the old woman’s lap, and a warm, dry hand began to gently stroke her long hair.

The old woman sighed. ”You silly child.”

’So what if she took it all?’

’I’m giving it to her willingly. She can do whatever she wants with it.’

’But this silly child just had to choose to do it this way.’

’How could that not break my heart?’

’Her parents showed favoritism, and then she found out they weren’t even her real parents. Her husband also did many things to hurt her.’

’She’s become all alone in the world.’

’She was supposed to have a happy life.’

’But now, she has nothing.’

The old woman’s heart ached with a bitter sorrow, and she wished only to give this silly child the very best of everything.

But Chloe Reed didn’t know what the old woman was thinking. She just felt that this moment was blissful and perfect.

She closed her eyes, resting on her grandmother’s lap. Sunlight fell upon them, wrapping them in its warmth.

This very moment was exceptionally peaceful and warm.

”...”

With William Quinn missing, Iris Yates and Nathaniel Monroe had been on edge. Half a month flew by, and tomorrow was the wedding, but William Quinn still hadn’t appeared.

They both assumed that William Quinn had already left Breyburn, and with the wedding imminent, their attention was no longer on the matter.

The day before the wedding, Chloe Reed arrived at the Yates family’s home. Many of the Yates family’s relatives had come. As soon as Iris Yates saw her, she couldn’t help but grab her and complain, ”I already told my mom not to invite too many people, but I can’t believe so many still came. It’s making me really nervous.”

Chloe Reed sat down next to her and said, ”The wedding is tomorrow. Don’t be too nervous. You can relax once it’s all over.”

Iris Yates sighed, grabbed a handful of sunflower seeds, and put them in her hand. ”Here. You have to sleep with me tonight.”

Chloe Reed raised an eyebrow slightly. ”I’m afraid that’s not going to work.”

Iris Yates pouted. ”I just really don’t want to sleep with my mom. She’ll definitely lecture me all night.”

But Chloe Reed started to laugh. ”In your mom’s eyes, you’re really getting married now. She probably won’t lecture you anymore. She’ll definitely share some heartfelt words with you.”

She really envied Iris Yates. Her parents both cared for her, and their world revolved around her.

’And what about me?’

’I have nothing.’

A sense of loneliness surfaced in her heart, but she forcibly suppressed it, her smile remaining impeccable.

Iris Yates leaned on her shoulder. ”Sigh... I hope so.”

That evening, Mrs. Yates did indeed come looking for Iris Yates, so Chloe Reed went to the guest room. The next day, they had to be up before dawn to do her makeup and help her into the wedding dress. Dressed for her wedding, Iris Yates was as beautiful as a princess from a fairy tale.

The wedding procession arrived shortly after, and the scene was full of festive cheer.
