Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce

Chloe Reed, however, said, ”You need to protect my grandmother. Don’t let anyone hurt her. I’ll have the other bodyguards come with me.”

Daniel Hayes was very worried. ”But...”

”Don’t worry. Nothing will happen.” Chloe’s tone was casual. Walker Grant had told her that The Osprey wouldn’t make a move on her again anytime soon.

Besides, with the leader of The Osprey in the city, it was even less likely that anyone would dare to try anything.

For now, it seemed she was safe.

Daniel Hayes finally relented. ”All right.”

Chloe then called over two other bodyguards. One was assigned to drive, while the other sat in the front passenger seat to survey their surroundings. It paid to be vigilant.

Fortunately, the drive was uneventful. When she arrived at South Hill Apartments, she texted Daniel Hayes to let him know she was okay.

Then, she knocked on Iris Yates’s door.

A moment later, the door opened to reveal Iris Yates, bundled up tightly and with tear tracks staining her little face. As soon as she saw Chloe, her mouth crumpled, and she burst out crying.

”Oh, Chloe!”

Chloe stepped into the room and hugged her. ”What on earth happened?” she asked softly.

Iris hugged her, sobbing uncontrollably. It took a long while before her emotions stabilized.

She pulled down the oversized hood of her pajamas, her small face streaked with tears. Wiping at her cheeks, she said between sobs, ”It was yesterday. I went on another blind date, but he was a total creep. I got so mad and frustrated that I went to a bar to drink. Then I got drunk... and ended up getting a room with a stranger...”

Listening to her description, Chloe’s expression grew complicated. For a moment, she didn’t know what to say.

”Do you remember what he looked like?” she asked.

Iris nodded. ”He was gorgeous. He had blue eyes... I think he might be mixed-race? He was also really tall... And... he was terrible in bed. It hurt so much I thought I was going to die...”

Chloe’s expression froze.

’Tall, handsome, blue eyes...’

’It couldn’t be William Quinn, could it?!’

”Chloe, what’s with that look? Do you know him?” Iris asked hurriedly when she saw her friend’s reaction.

Chloe blinked. ”I might know him...”

Then she looked at Iris and asked, ”What are you planning to do?”

Iris shook her head, looking lost. ”I don’t know.”

Chloe pursed her lips, thinking for a moment before she spoke. ”First of all, did you take a morning-after pill?”

Iris looked at her blankly before replying, ”He used a condom.”

”That’s no guarantee. You should still take the pill,” Chloe said, her tone grave. ”Then, you need to go to the hospital for a check-up to make sure he didn’t have any STDs.”

’If it really was William Quinn... The man is obviously a playboy. He said such sleazy things the very first time they met. Who knows what kinds of diseases he’s carrying? It was better for Iris to get checked, just in case.’

Iris’s face went pale. ”Is it really that scary?”

”You have to do these things for your own health and safety,” Chloe said sternly.

Taking a deep breath, she asked, ”Lastly, do you want to call the police?”

Iris looked at her, lost. After struggling with the question for a while, she asked, ”If he’s a foreigner, would reporting it to the police even do any good?”

’It would be useless.’

’Not only is he a foreigner, but he’s also the leader of a mercenary organization. He’s ruthless and volatile, and his background is undoubtedly immense.’

Seeing her friend’s silence, Iris gave a humorless smile. ”Then let’s just forget it. I’ll just pretend I was bitten by a dog.”

She grabbed Chloe’s hand. ”Chloe, please come with me to the hospital. I’m too scared to go alone.”
