The Delicate Darling with Her Rough Man

Chapter 254: Chapter 253: Family Rules

The welcoming remarks were done.

Now it was time to go over the house rules.

Gu Jiaojiao’s tone shifted.

”Sweet Girl, Xiao Yang, next I’m going to explain the rules of this house.”

”From now on, we’re a family. In this home, you can laugh whenever you want and do whatever you please. But there is one thing that is my absolute bottom line.”

”You must never do anything to betray or harm your family.”

”The moment anyone does something wrong, I will immediately have them leave this home. Do you understand?”

Sweet Girl and Xiao Yang immediately sat up straight, their expressions solemn. ”Sister, we understand.”

Xiao Yang couldn’t speak, but his little face was taut as he nodded, his expression incredibly serious.

Seeing they understood, Gu Jiaojiao looked over at Leng Yuan.

Leng Yuan looked resigned.

He placed a piece of chicken in Gu Jiaojiao’s bowl, his voice calm. ”Let’s eat.”

The moment Leng Yuan spoke, Gu Jiaojiao started eating.

Only after seeing the two of them begin to eat did Sweet Girl and Xiao Yang start using their chopsticks.

Sweet Girl took a sip of the millet porridge first. It was soft, smooth, and fragrant—incredibly delicious.

This porridge was made from pure millet, with no corn grits mixed in. As a pure, fine grain, of course it tasted good.

She didn’t take a flatbread.

Food was scarce these days; a bowl of porridge was enough for her.

Besides, the porridge was so thick. Ever since her parents left, she had never eaten anything this good.

Even the noodles Gu Jiaojiao had made for them before had been mixed with corn flour.

’This is already so wonderful,’ Sweet Girl thought, savoring every single sip.

Gu Jiaojiao didn’t overthink it. Assuming the two were just not used to things yet, she simply picked up the flatbreads and handed one to each of them.

’After all, Sweet Girl is thirteen. Eating two flatbreads should be no problem for her.’

’But since it’s evening, one flatbread, the porridge, and some meat and vegetables should be about right.’

’And even though Xiao Yang is younger, boys tend to have bigger appetites, so he can also eat one flatbread.’

Sweet Girl was hesitant to take it, but Gu Jiaojiao simply pressed it into her hand without a word. The gesture was completely natural.

Holding the flatbread, Sweet Girl’s heart swelled with warmth.

’Sister is so good to me. I have to find a way to repay her someday.’

Never before had she felt such a resolute desire to become stronger.

Hiding the emotion in her eyes, Sweet Girl took a huge bite of the flatbread. The combined aroma of wheat flour and corn, along with the sweetness of red dates and brown sugar, was simply divine!

In the past, she only got to eat such delicious flatbreads during the New Year.

It was as good as any pastry.

The two of them ate their porridge and flatbreads, but neither touched a single piece of the meat.

In the end, Gu Jiaojiao had to place several pieces in their bowls before they would eat any of it.

The meal left everyone feeling exceptionally satisfied.

After dinner, Sweet Girl rushed to clear the table, and Gu Jiaojiao didn’t stop her.

’If I don’t let her do some chores right now, Sweet Girl will probably feel uncomfortable.’

Even Xiao Yang kept himself busy, taking a broom and sweeping the entire kitchen.

Once the kitchen was clean, Gu Jiaojiao had the two of them wash up.

Sweet Girl had injuries, so she washed up quickly. Afterward, Gu Jiaojiao applied some bruise ointment for her.

She had made it herself.

The formula was simple, but it was quite effective.

In her modern life, Gu Jiaojiao had been in the habit of keeping some medical supplies at home, just in case.

Since she knew how to formulate and prepare some simple remedies, she had made a few to have on hand.

The ones she prepared were mostly traditional herbal pills and ointments.

The bruise ointment she was holding was a paste decocted from traditional herbs. The recipe was from her past life, and it was extremely effective.

Gu Jiaojiao gently massaged the bruised areas on Sweet Girl’s body before applying the ointment.

”You’ll have to wait for this to dry before you go to sleep.”

Sweet Girl nodded and sat on the bed, wrapped in a quilt, waiting for the medicine on her feet to be fully absorbed.

Sweet Girl was still wearing the straw-padded clothes made by Chen Shulan, which offered almost no warmth. Other than the padded clothes Gu Jiaojiao had given them earlier, the two of them didn’t own a second set.

”You two wait for me, I’ll be right back.”

Sweet Girl and Xiao Yang nodded obediently, waiting for Gu Jiaojiao to leave.

Only then did Sweet Girl speak in a low voice.

”Xiao Yang, from now on we have to work extra hard. That way, it’ll be a little easier on Sister for taking us in.”

’Everything that happened today feels like a dream, so happy it’s not even real.’

’If this is a dream, I hope I never wake up.’

Xiao Yang just nodded solemnly. ’I will work hard from now on,’ he resolved.
