The Delicate Darling with Her Rough Man

Chapter 148: Chapter 147: Silly Wife

Black market loan?

For a moment, Leng Yuan couldn’t even recall what she was talking about.

Then he remembered what Chen JianShe had told him: Aunt Leng had paid Gu Jiaojiao a visit, only to be rebuffed.

He had assumed Gu Jiaojiao didn’t believe it at all. He had wanted to explain things to her, but he never found the right chance.

Now that Gu Jiaojiao had suddenly brought it up, he realized that his silly wife had not only believed the rumor but had also somehow managed to get her hands on three hundred yuan.

Looking at the crisp, new ten-yuan bills in his hand, Leng Yuan felt a warmth spread through his chest, his eyes filled with emotion.

’He never imagined Gu Jiaojiao would do something like this. Not knowing it was all a misunderstanding, she had worried he wouldn’t be able to pay back the money and had actually found a way to scrape the funds together for him!’

Leng Yuan’s eyes stung, and his throat felt a little dry. He spoke in a low voice.

”Where did you get the money?”

Gu Jiaojiao looked at the man’s downcast eyes, unable to make out his expression.

She put on a smug expression and playfully ruffled the man’s short hair.

”When I was sent down to the countryside, I swiped a fairly valuable fountain pen from my scumbag dad. I gave it to Yun Hao, but a couple of days ago, I went to the sent-down youth quarters to get it back. I sold it to get money for you.”

After she finished, she added with some concern.

”I don’t know if it’s enough.”

”There’s still two thousand in the bank book, right? And you should have some money too. Will that be enough altogether?”

Gu Jiaojiao mused to herself, having no idea how much Leng Yuan actually owed.

The words had barely left her mouth when the man suddenly pulled her into a tight embrace.

Gu Jiaojiao, completely oblivious to the tender moment, struggled and yelled.

”Leng Yuan, I can’t breathe!”

Leng Yuan froze for a second before loosening his grip.

Gu Jiaojiao rolled her eyes. ”Are you trying to murder your own wife?”

With that one sentence, she successfully shattered the man’s tender feelings, and his face immediately darkened.

”Gu Jiaojiao, don’t talk such nonsense.”

’Murder? He would kill himself before he could ever bear to harm a hair on Gu Jiaojiao’s head.’

Gu Jiaojiao had only been speaking offhandedly. Seeing that the man was genuinely angry, she cowered slightly and shrank back.

”You’re the one who took out a black market loan, yet you’re getting fierce with me. Is there any justice in the world?”

Leng Yuan felt a mixture of love and exasperation. This little woman of his could provoke his anger with a single sentence, then leave him utterly speechless with the next.

He rubbed his silly wife’s head and began to tell her the truth.

”The black market loan story is fake. I had someone spread that rumor on purpose.”

”The last time I went to the County Town, I ran into Leng Qiushou. He must have heard from the family that I spent a lot of money to marry you, so he thought there was an opportunity for him and started cozying up to me.”

”I couldn’t be bothered with him, so I just had someone spread the rumor that I’d taken out a black market loan.”

”Sure enough, as soon as he heard the news, Leng Qiushou started avoiding me like the plague, terrified of getting mixed up with me.”

Gu Jiaojiao never expected that to be the case.

Leng Qiushou was Second Uncle Leng’s eldest son, the Leng Family’s eldest grandson. He was the one who worked at the commune, a job that an aunt from the Leng Family had arranged for him.

Leng Yuan was a teacher at the commune’s middle school, and Leng Qiushou worked at the commune office, so the chances of them running into each other were pretty high.

’He must have heard from the Leng Family that Leng Yuan had money now and decided to cozy up to him.’

’But when it turned out Leng Yuan’s ’money’ came from a black market loan, he got scared of being dragged into trouble, so he quickly made himself scarce and reported the ’news’ back to the Leng Family.’

’No wonder no one else knew about it, but Aunt Leng knew every detail.’

Gu Jiaojiao was furious. ”How can that family be so awful?”

”Leave them to me.”

Leng Yuan decided it was time to teach the Leng Family a lesson.

Even though he and his wife hadn’t quarreled over this incident, he was getting sick of the Leng Family constantly making trouble.

Gu Jiaojiao didn’t say anything. Since Leng Yuan said he would handle it, she would let him.
