The Delicate Darling with Her Rough Man

Chapter 137: Chapter 136: Wanting to Crawl into a Hole

Gu Jiaojiao had been crying so hard she couldn’t quite stop. With red-rimmed eyes, she looked at Leng Yuan, then at Chen Jianshe.

Chen Jianshe calmly looked up at the sky, but internally, he was having a complete meltdown.

Heh!

Heh heh!!!

Heh heh heh!!!

’Can the ground just open up and swallow me, please?’

He really couldn’t stay any longer. He had done plenty of embarrassing things growing up, but nothing had ever been this embarrassing. He wished he could just shrink away so no one could see him.

Seeing Chen Jianshe like this, Gu Jiaojiao knew that everything Leng Yuan had said was true.

For a moment, she was at a loss—she didn’t know whether she should be angry or not.

In the end, she simply wiped away her tears and left it for Leng Yuan to handle.

Leng Yuan, however, was in no hurry. He wet a towel and gently wiped the tears from Gu Jiaojiao’s face, bit by bit. Then he reached out and stroked her head, finally managing to soothe her.

Only then did he turn around, his calm, emotionless eyes landing on Chen Jianshe. ”Jianshe, we need to have a talk.”

Chen Jianshe’s knees instantly went weak.

”Brother Leng, I was wrong. I know I was wrong.”

Leng Yuan turned a deaf ear. He said to Gu Jiaojiao, ”I’m stepping out for a bit.”

Gu Jiaojiao nodded.

Having gotten his wife’s approval, Leng Yuan walked up to Chen Jianshe, grabbed him by the collar, and dragged him outside.

Chen Jianshe was self-aware enough to know a beating was unavoidable, so he could only play the family card.

”Brother Leng, I’m practically your brother! Go a little easy on me, I haven’t even found a wife yet!”

As his voice slowly faded into the distance, Chen Jianshe’s pleas for mercy became indistinct.

About half an hour later, Leng Yuan returned.

Gu Jiaojiao looked over and saw Chen Jianshe hobbling in behind him.

He had his head bowed, one hand covering his eye, looking utterly ridiculous.

Gu Jiaojiao let out a ”PFFT” of laughter. The next moment, realizing it was inappropriate, she quickly suppressed her laughter and pretended nothing had happened.

Still, she hadn’t expected Leng Yuan to actually hit him and couldn’t help but ask, ”You actually hit him?”

Leng Yuan glanced back at Chen Jianshe.

Chen Jianshe immediately dropped his hand and spoke up for Leng Yuan. ”Sister-in-law, Brother Leng didn’t hit me.”

”Really, he didn’t.”

Gu Jiaojiao: ’Heh heh!!!’

’Whatever makes you happy!’

’Such a blind follower!’

’Always defending Leng Yuan, no matter what.’

It was because of Chen Jianshe’s loyalty that he was present in nearly every scene featuring Leng Yuan, which ended up giving him a much bigger role.

Thinking that Chen Jianshe had meant well, Gu Jiaojiao didn’t dwell on it. It was her own fault for not asking for clarification.

”I’m making spicy boiled fish for lunch. Stay and eat with us.”

Chen Jianshe cautiously glanced at Brother Leng.

He was really craving his sister-in-law’s cooking. He’d eaten it once before and was still thinking about it!

Leng Yuan shot him a look, silently telling him to stay.

Chen Jianshe agreed without a moment’s hesitation.

You can’t get a free meal for nothing, so Chen Jianshe helped fetch water and clean the fish.

Gu Jiaojiao had them clean most of the fish, then salt them to be dried for the winter.

After giving instructions, she started to sort through her medicinal herbs, wrapping up the ones that could be used in soap into individual portions so they would be ready for the next time she boiled a batch.

While the two men cleaned fish in the courtyard, they started discussing their affairs.

”Brother Leng, when should we go up into the mountains?”

Chen Jianshe didn’t hold a grudge. Besides, he’d been getting hit by Brother Leng since they were kids and was long used to it. This time, there were no broken bones or serious injuries; it was much lighter than their martial arts training sessions.

When he was young, he had been skinny and weak and had admired Brother Leng’s skills. Later, he pestered Brother Leng to teach him martial arts.

His Brother Leng had actually been willing to take him under his wing, but he never held back. When he was a child, he was afraid of water.

As a result, his Brother Leng kicked him right into the water. *That* was when his Brother Leng was truly merciless.

But the results were good. Aside from not being able to beat Brother Leng, he had no rival in the surrounding villages.

Moreover, he could hunt in the mountains and catch fish in the water.

His Brother Leng had taught him all these skills.

Later, as he grew up and Leng Yuan also got busy, they didn’t train much anymore.

The scuffle just now actually felt somewhat refreshing.

Leng Yuan had no time to care about Chen Jianshe’s inner thoughts, but he did agree to going to the mountains.

”This afternoon, you’ll come with me to the mountains. Help me make something while you’re there.”

”Your sister-in-law’s facial soaps are ready too. They need to be delivered to the County Town tonight.”

Delivering them during the day isn’t safe. Over a hundred bars of facial soap would be too conspicuous.

Chen Jianshe nodded. ”Alright. I’ll deliver them tonight, stay over in the County Town, and come back tomorrow morning.”
