Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

”Xinyu, what are you doing here?”

”Uncle, our family came back to take a look. We just burned some paper money for my grandpa and parents.”

Wang Jianqiang nodded, ”This is the perfect time to burn the paper money, so those gossiping women have nothing to say.”

”Is our village really this chaotic now?” It’s all just neighbors. Every family is in the same situation; would there still be people gossiping?

”Sigh, it’s really not as good as it used to be.”

Jiang Xinyu held Tingting and pointed to Wang Jianqiang, ”This is Grandpa.”

The little girl smiled, her eyes curved like crescents, ”Grandpa.” Her voice was clear and pleasant.

Wang Jianqiang chuckled, responding twice.

”Xinyu, are these two little ones yours?”

Jiang Xinyu nodded. ”Uncle, this is the father of the children, Wei Kaiyun.”

Actually, from the moment Wei Kaiyun entered, Wang Jianqiang had glanced at him several times. He had seen Wei Kaiyun before, but that was years ago, and only a couple of times.

”Wei Kaiyun? Director Wei?”

Wei Kaiyun smiled and nodded, ”Uncle. You can just call me Wei Kaiyun.”

”Xinyu, you and he?”

”We’ve always been together, but back then, because of his reasons, we didn’t tell anyone.”

”That’s good, that’s good. Director Wei looks like a family-oriented man.”

It’s the first time Wei Kaiyun heard someone praise him since returning this time, and he thought this elder was really insightful.

”Thank you, Uncle. I will definitely treat Xinyu and the kids well.”

”Of course, our Xinyu has had a tough life. You must treat her and the children well. Although we’re not capable people, we are her family.”

Wei Kaiyun nodded, liking what the old man said. Everything he said seemed right.

”Uncle. Don’t worry.”

Sun Ermei knew the kids went to call her son. So, even though the water boiled, she didn’t make tea soup but rather made porridge, waiting for the kids to return before preparing anything.

Early in the morning, there were hardly any households awake in the village. Of course, Wang Xiaolong’s family was still in bed.

He heard someone calling outside. It was Guo Caifeng who got up.

”Who is it?”

”Auntie, it’s me, Xiangting. My Aunt Jiang Xinyu is back. She’s at my grandma’s house now, with my parents in the back.”

”Alright, come on in. I’ll wake up your uncle.”

”Auntie, we won’t come in. We’ll go to Grandma’s and wait for cousin.”

Feifei and the other three also called out to Auntie.

Guo Caifeng knew two were Jiang Xinyu’s children, but she didn’t know the other one.

The children dashed off again.

The three in the house were awake now, having heard the conversation outside. When Guo Caifeng came in, she saw the three were getting dressed.

”Mom, did cousin come?”

”Yes, Xiangting and Liangyu came, and your Aunt Jiang’s two kids are here too.”

The two boys quickened their pace of getting dressed, realizing that if their cousin came, their aunt must have brought treats.

Wang Xiaolong finally folded the quilt and followed his son to the house.

Although the four of them lived here, they rarely ate here. It wasn’t enjoyable to eat with just two elderly people, but it’s lively when the whole family is together.

By the time they came in, the cornmeal porridge was ready. Sun Ermei had also made porridge crust.

Actually, it was just scooping out the cooked porridge, leaving the rest in the pot. Because of the residual heat, it turned into a crust.

Mixing it with soy sauce and a bit of sesame oil, the two grandsons particularly loved it.

Wang Xiaolong entered the room and saw two men who must be capable.

”Xiaolong, this is Xinyu’s husband, and this is their friend.”

Wei Kaiyun stood up with a smile, ”Brother.”

Wang Xiaolong blushed and hurriedly waved his hand, ”Please, have a seat.” There was nothing more he could say.

Guo Caifeng had started setting the table. In the main room, Sun Ermei boiled more water to make tea soup for the kids.

Since everyone had already had dinner and wasn’t hungry, they just had a bowl of tea soup each.

In the countryside, they didn’t have many bowls or chopsticks. So they quickly drank it down, so the family wouldn’t be short of utensils to eat with.

”Xinyu, you’re back finally. Your house, I almost can’t hold onto it.” Guo Caifeng said as she drank her porridge.

”Sister-in-law, don’t worry. I’m back today to see who’s still eyeing my house.

Let’s see what they’re capable of.”

The three adults in the house perked up their ears, listening.

”Hmph, those shameless folks are just like toads crawling up your foot, not biting but definitely making you uncomfortable. What can they do?”

”Sister-in-law, don’t be mad. I’m sorry it’s caused you trouble because of me.”

”Trouble? We’re living rent-free in your house, after all.”

”Sister-in-law, that’s different. You’ve been a great help to me.”

”No need to be polite. Even if we didn’t live there, I wouldn’t let anyone else think of taking your house. That group of shameless people just wants to take advantage. Since they came back to the village, it’s been downright chaotic here.

The mess they’re causing might make it hard for young guys to find wives and girls to get married someday.”

Jiang Xinyu had heard from Wang Ailing and knew that Kong Menglin was quite the troublemaker for the whole village.

Since they didn’t live there now, they couldn’t say much. After all, they’re daughters married out of the village, and so was she; what’s more, she married into the village.

”Xinyu, you don’t know, but the Kong Family really doesn’t have a single good person. I thought Boss Kong was alright, but turns out, he’s not. When he’s away, we don’t know, but this time when he came back, he was given work in the town. He’s just an ingrate; his family of three doesn’t even come to see the elderly.

Tian Shulan used to brag to everyone that her eldest would return with great potential to be filial to her.

But he doesn’t come back at all. I heard from people in their street that Tian Shulan scolds every day at home, but no one listens. Who is she scolding for?”

”Their family’s so lively; their two neighbors must be watching the fun every day,” Jiang Xinyu said with a laugh.

Guo Caifeng, having finished her meal, put down her bowl and scooted over to Jiang Xinyu, clearly ready to gossip.

”That’s right, it’s like watching a play every day. Now, those two families are quite popular, wherever they appear, they draw a big crowd.”

Jiang Xinyu could imagine the scene and laughed along.

”Xinyu, you don’t know, but next spring, there’s going to be a village chief election. Now, Kong Zhongyou is really stressed about it.

Given their family situation, how many people are going to vote for him? What’s the use of stressing? Wouldn’t it be better to manage their family well?

Xinyu, there was never a good seed in their family. Previously, they were so high and mighty. Tian Shulan would boast every day about their second son being so capable and their two daughters having formal jobs.

Now, if anyone mentions their second son, she goes crazy and starts fighting, cursing you out in the process.”
