Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

The forty piglets that were first brought over have adapted very well.

Initially, Jiang Xinyu provided feed with fish bone powder making up only ten percent, and mostly corn, to help them adapt, but the proportion of fish powder will gradually increase. This way, their growth will be faster.

Today is the day for public grain delivery. Li Yungui specifically told Zhuang Zhiyun that all workers in the village are off for the day.

Zhuang Zhiyun understands, so just like last time, half of the strong laborers stay at home, and the rest head to the grain store.

This time Yang Zhongyi is not coming; instead, he directly sent a few people over.

The loading speed is very fast. After all, more people means more strength.

The first truck is loaded with sorghum, and Li Yungui carries a bag of unscoured cotton to show to Director Wu at the grain store.

With cotton as a lure, there’s no way he won’t make things difficult.

Jiang Xinyu sits next to Li Yunqiang, fully agreeing with Li Yungui’s approach.

The two of them lead a group of ten people with ox carts ahead. Otherwise, they’d have to wait.

When they arrive at the grain depot, Li Yungui takes the bag of cotton to find Wu Tiancheng.

”Old Li, you’re quite early?”

”The first truck should arrive soon, the first two trucks are sorghum, and the last truck is soybeans and peanuts.

As for the cotton, the first batch has already been picked, Director Wu, take a look at the quality, will you?”

Wu Tiancheng looks at the bag filled with snow-white, high-quality cotton and immediately smiles, ”Old Li, this cotton is really good. How much can you deliver this time?”

”Eight thousand pounds is no problem. Director Wu, we are delivering this quality. The cotton picked in the second round will be divided among the villagers.”

”Eight thousand pounds is a bit lacking.”

”Director Wu, it’s really not little. We’ve grown less than three hundred acres of cotton, and getting this much is already highly productive.”

Wu Tiancheng knows this situation and that with just this eight thousand pounds of cotton, he is bound to be praised.

”It’s just that scouring the cotton is too laborious and we have to do it here in the town.”

”Doing it in the town is actually good. Once you’ve scoured it, you can deliver it directly and save a lot of effort.”

”Okay. We’ll start scouring the day after tomorrow.”

While talking, the large truck drives in.

Wu Tiancheng really gave the sorghum an exceptional grade, just like Li Yungui thought. That’s eleven cents per pound. Twenty tons of sorghum is a solid four thousand four hundred dollars.

There’s no dispute about the soybeans being exceptional grade.

It’s just that the peanuts were given a first-grade rating, but Li Yungui is already very satisfied.

Wu Tiancheng instructed Li Yungui to hurry up with the cotton scouring. ”Old Li, I’ll put a word in for you so you get priority.”

”Thank you, Director Wu. Don’t worry. The corn at home has already started going into storage. We’re just a few busy days away from freeing up some people.”

Though eager, Wu Tiancheng has to let them manage on their own.

With the public grain delivered, Li Yungui felt a lot relieved.

The foundation of the pig farm has already been dug. When laying the ground, Jiang Xinyu suggested doing underfloor heating, where once heated, the floor gets warm, but not under the pigpen.

Work is really going overtime here. Liu the mason directly brought in two experienced workers, speeding things up significantly.

By the time Wei Kaiyun got home, it was already built, and now they were working on the indoor cement finish.

The piglets were directly placed in the livestock shed, where Liu Xuefa inspected each one. Along the way, their truck received attention from everyone who saw it. Uncle Li’s idea was that piglets wouldn’t starve, so over a day and a night, they were only given water.

Each weighed about thirty pounds, which in the countryside takes three months to grow to this size. As far as they were concerned, these pigs weren’t small anymore.

Today the whole village came to watch the fun, helping catch the pigs for those who had the strength, while the elderly and children watched from the side.

Seeing so many pigs made some people a bit worried. The pig farm isn’t finished yet, and there are already ninety piglets.

How much grain would they eat? Despite the concerns, everyone had smiles on their faces.

Fifty piglets in one pigpen is too crowded, but there’s no other choice as there are also three big pigs.

Li Yungui was all smiles; everyone in the village knew the village head was very happy.

Jiang Xinyu stood with Wei Kaiyun, ”Honey, I feel like I smell like pig manure.”

Jiang Xinyu gave Wei Kaiyun a glance and smiled, ”It’s not that exaggerated.”

After the piglets were taken off the truck, Li Yungui asked five people to follow the truck driver to the river and wash the truck clean.

They were all old friends, so the driver knew the Li Family Village’s nature and was still very grateful.

With village help, without them, he’d have to do it himself.

Wei Kaiyun settled accounts with the Li Family Brothers before returning home to bathe.

Uncle Li was also not tired, walking circles around the newly built pig farm.

”Great, I think it’s much better than the pig farm in M City, especially with the manure handling, it saves a lot of trouble.”

”Uncle, you’ve learned quite a bit over there?”

”Of course, I followed the master and asked questions, and Xiao Wei gave me two packs of cigarettes, which made the talks even better.” Uncle Li said proudly.

Li Yunqiang and two villagers went off with an ox cart full of corn to the town for milling; it’s electric milling, fast and fine.

”Yunqiang, with so many pigs, we’ll have to come for milling every few days?”

”My second brother said he’ll be getting the electric mill over from the city soon, but we don’t have electricity in the village.”

It’s a worrying matter, having submitted the plans for both factories, so why not get electricity?

”Yungui has been to find out?”

”Yes, it’s all arranged; our village will have a diesel generator.” The electric mill will only be for grinding feed for pigs and chickens.

”Haha, Yunqiang, if word gets out, people wouldn’t believe it, living livestock in our village eat better, more refined food than people do.”

”We’re hoping to make money out of this.”

”Exactly, I’ve talked with Liu the mason, after the village head’s house is done, it’ll be my place next.

I’m not hiring anyone, just paying directly, it’s faster and easier. I’m also hoping to move into the new house by winter.”

”I’ve made arrangements with Zhang the mason as well; after they finish the pig farm work, the three of us will have houses built. But I think I’ll go with the warm floors, Teacher Jiang called it what, floor heating? I think it’ll be very warm.”

”It can really work, I’ll do the same, let Liu the mason check it out; I’ll have floor heating too.”

”That takes a lot of firewood though; think about it, how much firewood will it take to heat the floor?”

”I asked Teacher Jiang, who said it could be connected with the stove and cooktop, just to keep the floor from being cold.”

”You could even sleep on the floor then.”

The group talked animatedly, all hopeful for a more comfortable future. Better days are just around the corner.
