NTR: Barbarian Harem Conquest

”What is the terrain like once I breach that fog layer? Are we talking cliffs or open plateaus?”

”A mix of both,” the veiled woman answered, sketching a rough map in the snow with the tip of her boot.

”The path narrows considerably near the top. There is a frozen lake just beneath the summit. That is where it usually sleeps, but since it is already moving, it might try to ambush you in the narrow passes.”

’Narrow passes mean less room to dodge, but it also restricts the snake’s mobility,’ Kane calculated, studying the mountain’s topography.

’If I can bait it into a chokepoint, I can limit its strike angles.’

Griselda crossed her arms, asking a quick question to the Saintess.

[Does the creature have any elemental weaknesses? Fire magic? Physical blunt trauma?]

”It resists almost everything,” the Saintess admitted, looking directly at the fallen angel.

”The scales deflect normal steel, and its internal temperature neutralizes fire magic before it can do lasting damage. The only way to kill it is to bypass the scales entirely. You must strike the underbelly or the inside of its mouth.”

”So I have to let it try to eat me again,” Kane summarized, shaking his head with a wry grin.

”Seems to be a recurring theme with my boss fights lately.”

”It is a risky strategy,” Misha called out.

”But knowing you, it is probably the only strategy you will actually use.”

Walking back toward the ruins, Kane grabbed the tea from his wife and took a long sip. The spiced liquid chased away the lingering chill in his throat.

”It works,” Kane shrugged, pulling her close again.

”Tomorrow, I will hunt that bastard down.”

Night swallowed Fog Mountain completely once the sun dipped below the jagged peaks.

Freezing shadows crept through the ruined sanctuary as the temperature dropped even further, turning every breath into a cloud of white mist.

Kane and Misha arranged their sleeping packs near the shattered stone altar, pulling the system-bought enchanted cloaks over themselves to trap their body heat and ward off the biting chill.

Perched on a broken pillar near the entrance, Griselda crossed her pale legs and refused to lie down.

She kept her crimson eyes locked on the shifting fog swirling around the mountain’s summit.

Kane offered her a spare blanket, but the fallen angel just tapped her daggers and gestured rapidly with her hands.

[I will watch the perimeter. Sleep. You need your strength for tomorrow, Lord Kane.]

Turning her back to give them privacy, Griselda blended into the shadows like a silent ghost.

Kane nodded, trusting his support completely as he settled down onto the stone floor.

Slipping into the makeshift bed, Kane felt the immediate contrast between the freezing mountain air and the soothing magical warmth of the cloaks.

Misha shifted closer, pressing her front flush against his chest so they could share the heat.

Noticing her golden rings were completely still instead of maintaining their usual serene spin, Kane realized something was bothering her.

She usually radiated a calm, detached energy, yet tonight she felt tense and grounded.

”Kane,” Misha whispered, her dual-tone voice barely above a breath.

”I am afraid.”

Frowning slightly, Kane wrapped a strong arm around her slender waist and pulled her closer.

”Why? The snake is staying near the summit tonight, and Griselda will catch it if it decides to slither down early. You are perfectly safe here.”

Misha tilted her chin up so her glowing white eyes met his.

”Not because of the Serpent. Because of you.”

Kane stayed quiet, letting her explain herself without interrupting. He ran a hand up and down her spine, offering silent reassurance while she gathered her thoughts.

”For years, this curse on my heart made me accept an early grave,” Misha confessed, tracing a slender finger along the stitching of his tunic.

”I never really feared death because I had nothing tying me to the living world. I watched the seasons change, and empires fall, feeling like a ghost already walking among the living.”

She paused, letting out a shaky sigh that clouded in the cold air.

”Before you claimed me, my visions only showed me different ways to die,” she continued, resting her palm gently against his scarred cheek.

”I just accepted it as fate. But you dragged me away from the edge. You gave me a future and made me actually want to live. Now I am terrified of losing the man who gave me that hope.”

’She spent her entire youth just waiting for her heart to stop,’ Kane realized, a profound sense of protectiveness settling deep in his chest.

’Loving someone means giving the world a weapon to hurt you with, and she is finally feeling that edge for the very first time.’

Instead of offering a cocky, barbarian response, Kane felt his demeanor soften entirely.

Shifting from the ruthless warlord into a genuinely tender husband, he reached up and threaded his calloused fingers through her white hair.

”When you live your whole life knowing the exact day you will die, hoping for anything else feels like a betrayal to yourself,” Kane said quietly, understanding her pain more than she realized.

He brushed his thumb slowly across her lower lip, memorizing the soft texture.

”You gave me a reason to actually win, Misha,” Kane murmured, holding her gaze steadily.

”I am not leaving you alone in this world, Misha. I am going up that mountain tomorrow, taking that overgrown lizard’s head, and bringing back the blood to fix Griselda’s seal. Then we are going home to rule our empire together. That is a promise.”

”We have a lot of work to do when we get back,” Kane added, keeping his tone light to ease her anxiety.

”Sarah is probably taxing the southern merchants blind right now, and Thora is likely terrorizing Nadia’s recruits in the training yard. They need us back to keep the chaos organized.”

Misha let out a genuine laugh at the thought of their makeshift family running the capital.

”They are quite capable on their own.”

”Capable, yes,” Kane agreed, smiling back.

”But they are our responsibility now. We built this together, and I fully intend to see how far we can take it.”

Misha searched his eyes for any trace of doubt, finding only unwavering certainty looking back at her.

A single tear slipped down her cheek, catching the faint moonlight filtering through the ruined roof.

Leaning down, Kane kissed her.

It was not rough or demanding like his usual encounters, but gentle and deeply emotional.

Misha melted against him instantly, letting out a soft whimper as her fingers curled tightly into his tunic.

She kissed him back with everything she had, pouring her fears and her profound love into the connection.

Breaking the kiss slowly, Kane pressed his forehead against hers.

”Get some sleep,” Kane whispered, tucking the enchanted cloak securely around her shoulders.

”Wake me up before you leave,” Misha requested, closing her eyes as a peaceful smile finally graced her lips.

”I want to bless your weapons.”
