Percy Jackson: The Firstborn

Chapter 52: Chapter 52 Tahiti

Back with Damon

Damon was still fighting Madara, who by that point could not do much against the blond anymore. His Susanoo only had one arm left, and it did not take long for him to realize he could not regenerate it. Every time Damon cut off or tore away one of the samurai’s limbs, he placed seals on the stumps to stop the chakra from flowing back properly.

The problem was simple: if Madara dropped the Susanoo, Damon would destroy him in seconds and seal his body before it could reform, which left the Uchiha at a massive disadvantage.

Damon dropped Kurama Mode and looked at Madara while focusing most of his sensory power on Obito, who was still recovering from chakra exhaustion and could not do much at the moment. All Damon had to do was buy enough time to finish Madara and then deal with Obito before the Juubi could be formed.

He had not expected this.

Not Minato. Not any of it.

At the start of the war, the villages had distrusted each other. The hatred had still been there, and even though the Kage had softened some of it, they had never been able to erase it completely.

The war had done the rest. When humans fought side by side, they began to change. At first it had been a disaster. If someone from another village was dying, many would have let them die even if they could have saved them. But that started to shift the moment Madara became the greater threat. Shinobi from Kumo had given their lives to save people from Konoha and Kiri, because the war had grown bigger than their old grudges.

That had not gone unnoticed.

Everything had started moving as one.

One union.

Exactly what Damon had been searching for.

Enemy of my enemy is my friend, huh?

He could not help smiling.

He was close.

He could almost touch it with his own hands. A thousand years spent searching for peace through hundreds of different lives and endless different paths, and he had never been this close before.

And yet, as if fate itself enjoyed screwing with him, peace slipped from his fingers again.

Damon heard someone land beside him, and the moment he felt that presence, his whole body reacted in a way he hated.

No way...

Slowly, he turned his head.

Blond.

Blue eyes.

The Fourth Hokage’s cloak.

WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING HERE? Damon screamed internally without moving a single muscle.

Minato Namikaze had just arrived on the battlefield, and not long after him, the other Kage appeared as well.

”This can’t be happening,” Damon muttered.

At first Kurama only raised an eyebrow at Damon’s reaction. The fox was one hundred percent sure the blond knew who that was, so why react like this?

Then he felt it.

His own chakra.

Coming from inside the taller blond.

The only thought both of them had was simple.

Shit.

Damon tried to move, but he could not.

What the hell was happening?

His whole body refused to move even a centimeter. He tried to raise a hand and force Minato away while he still could. He could feel his mortal soul reacting to seeing a living Madara. He could feel that stupid grudge trying to rise again toward the blond standing there. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Sarutobi staring at him strangely, as if he recognized something without understanding it, while Tobirama watched with that old nostalgia in his eyes.

Then Damon felt it.

One of the roots of the sacred tree was moving toward Minato.

Fast.

Too fast.

Damon raised a hand without saying a word, but the effort it took just to do that nearly made him black out. His whole world started going dark around the edges. Minato gave him a paternal smile, but something in Damon’s stare clearly unsettled him.

Damon could feel rage.

And he wanted to scream at him to get away.

Demons.

The helplessness crushed him. How long had it been since he last felt something like this? He hated that feeling with everything he had. Being unable to do anything. Just standing there and watching. It made him sick.

Then he saw it.

The root burst from the ground and pierced straight through Minato’s chest.

The Fourth never saw it coming. He was impaled in an instant, while orange chakra began getting ripped out of him.

Then everything went black.

Damon lost consciousness the moment Minato was impaled and collapsed to the ground. Sarutobi rushed to inspect the blond while Tobirama did what he could to help the Fourth Hokage.

Damon’s mental space

Damon woke inside his mental world and instantly tried to force his way back outside, but he could not. He had no idea what was happening. At first he did not even notice the ten figures surrounding him.

He grabbed his head with both hands, pressing down over his eyes as hard as he could.

”AAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!” he screamed in desperation. ”SHINIGAMI, YOU SON OF A BITCH! WHY THE HELL IS MINATO OUTSIDE YOUR STOMACH?! WHY THE FUCK DID YOU LET HIM OUT?!”

”Damon, calm down.”

Kurama’s voice reached him while Damon still had both hands over his face. His breathing came deep and uneven as he forced himself to calm down. This was not the time to lose control. The important thing now was figuring out why he was stuck there and how to get out.

”The next time I see that bastard, I’m taking his precious sword and shoving it so far up his ass it comes out through his eyes,” Damon growled, a little more under control now.

That earned sweat drops from all ten figures watching him.

”Kurama,” Damon said.

”We’re fucked.”

Nobody answered.

Not a single word.

That silence made Damon slowly lower his hands and finally look around at each of the Bijuu. Surprise flickered over his face for a moment before fading again. Still, he understood why they were there. He had their chakra inside him.

”None of this was supposed to happen. Minato was never supposed to leave the Shinigami’s stomach... and now this has gone completely out of my hands,” Damon said, lowering his gaze.

”Damon, I’ve only trusted two humans in my entire life... and you’re one of them,” Kurama said, finally pulling Damon’s attention back toward him. ”I told you I would trust you. I liked the plan, even if it sounded crazy, and you haven’t failed yet.”

”Yes... the plan,” Damon muttered, dragging a hand down his face. ”I have a plan, damn it. No matter what, we’re making it to Tahiti.”
