The Broken Halo

Simon could not help but wonder if the Fleshwood’s regeneration skill would have increased his lifespan.

With the way he was feeling and with the power coursing through his veins, he believed that it must have.

However, he could not know what his lifespan was with his current abilities.

After thinking briefly about his lifespan, he shifted his attention to the skill he got from the Fleshwood.

He closed his eyes, then he delved back into his sea of consciousness.

He looked at the star containing the rune of the Fleshwood, and from where he was, it looked like a tree.

A stream of information suddenly entered his mind from the star as Simon stared at it, then his eyes flickered with a surprised light.

”Hmm. The name of the skill is not Fleshwood Regeneration but... Unholy Regeneration?”

Simon could not help but raise a brow.

He was truly surprised by the name of the skill, but the more he went through the stream of information given to him, the more serious his expression.

”What sort of healing skill is this? Just tell me to become a Devourer and I’ll understand.”

Simon wanted to curse the Fleshwood and the world in his anger because of the information that was just given to him.

When Lilith told him that the Fleshwood’s skill would be able to heal his body and soul, and grant him the ability to recover his mental energy at a much faster rate, he never bothered to ask how the skill worked.

And why would he?

He thought that in regards to his soul, the skill would passively heal his soul and with time, his soul would be completely healed and maybe even strengthened.

But that was not the case.

For Unholy Regeneration to heal his soul, he needed to either kill, be in a region of death, or be in a region where souls have not passed on.

The easiest requirement was killing, but that was also a problem for Simon because how many demons, humans, or living beings would he have to kill for his soul to be completely healed?

He was not sure, but there was another thing he had to consider and that was the purity of his soul.

He realized that if he had consumed the Fleshwood’s heart resin directly, he would have faced a serious problem in regards to his soul.

The Fleshwood’s heart resin could grant a demon the ability to heal their soul by killing, staying in a region of death, or a region where souls cannot move on.

However, if the demon healed their soul through these methods and without taking precautions, the devoured souls or soul fragments would make their souls impure.

For Simon, his Seven Stars Blessing rectified that problem for him.

Whenever he devours souls or soul fragments, the souls or soul fragments would be purified so that it would not affect the purity of his soul.

Though, the consequences of this is that the quantity he would eventually absorb would be drastically reduced but the quality would be extremely high.

This was another reason why Simon could not help but wonder how many living beings he would have to kill and devour their souls for his soul to be completely healed.

’And I have no idea how damaged my soul is.’

’Sigh.’

’This is going to be a drag... At least the devouring is passive. Unholy Regeneration would passively devour and purify the soul or soul fragments of whoever I kill, so I don’t need to do anything.’

’... Maybe that’s why it’s called Unholy Regeneration.’

’And then there’s the damned requirements for me to recover my mental energy.’

When Simon recalled what he needed for Unholy Regeneration to recover his mental energy at a faster pace, he held the bridge of his nose in frustration.

For Unholy Regeneration to recover his mental energy at a much fast pace, he needed to devour fear, pain, killing intent, and negative emotions around him.

For example, if he was in a place where people feared him or hated him, in a place where he caused so much pain, he would passively devour their emotions which would then be purified by his Seven Stars Blessing into pure mental energy for him to use.

If he was also facing an enemy that was emitting killing intent toward him, he would passively absorb their killing intent and transform it into his mental energy.

’So if these negative emotions are not directed at me, then I won’t be able to recover my mental energy?’

Simon’s frown deepened as he rubbed the bridge of his nose.

’This damn skill definitely wants me to be hated and to be a villain. Well... I’m already hated in the academy and clan, so it should not be a problem.’

Simon then moved on to the physical regeneration aspect of Unholy Regeneration.

Out of the three aspects of Unholy Regeneration, the only aspect that was alright to Simon was physical regeneration.

For his injuries to be healed, he only needed demonic energy.

That was all.

However, there were a few things about Unholy Regeneration healing his physical body.

The first is that no matter how small the injury was, UnholyRegeneration would heal his injuries.

He could not stop it.

However, Unholy Regeneration does not heal softly. It healed violently.

’If I’m cut, my flesh is going to crawl back together like roots and worms moving.’

’If my bones are broken, they’ll forcefully reconnect themselves.’

’Torn organs are going to regenerate rapidly, and I can also regrow my limbs if they’re ever cut.’

’Though it’s going to be extremely painful and violent... And I’ll also need to control the regeneration?’

Simon frowned slightly, then he looked at his left bicep.

”I guess I should do a minor test.”

Simon touched his bicep with a single claw, then he coated it with his demonic energy and made a deep cut.

He didn’t make a single cut as he bled and cut himself.

However, before he could even remove his claw, UnholyRegeneration acted.

His muscles and flesh crawled back together like roots or tentacles, and Simon watched it with interest.

His demonic energy was consumed, and in less than two seconds, the cut was completely healed.

Simon’s lips curled up slightly.

”Hmm. Not bad.”
