The Broken Halo

[If a Daemon drinks the Heart Resin of a Fleshwood, the Daemon would have the ability of physical regeneration, mental energy recovery, and soul regeneration.]

Simon could not believe what he just heard from Lilith.

He was holding an item that could grant a Daemon the ability to heal their injuries, the ability to heal their soul, and the ability to recover their mental energy?

Was this not what he had been looking for a while now?

[And I’m going to tell you this for free by the way.]

Simon was about to board his deep and long train of thoughts, but Lilith’s words stopped that from happening.

[Hmm?]

[The reason why you reacted the way you did some minutes ago is because your soul is damaged.]

Simon blinked in confusion.

[What?]

Lilith released a soft sigh.

[That thing that’s sharing my space in your heart, it’s called a Soul Eating Centipede or a Soul Devouring Centipede.]

Simon frowned.

[I know that already.]

[But what you don’t know is that it has eaten portions of your soul. Your soul is damaged.]

Simon’s eyes widened immediately, and he could not help but exclaim out loud.

”What?”

Ymir gave Simon a strange look, but Simon completely ignored the Winter Monkey.

[My soul is damaged? Why didn’t you tell me this since?]

[Why do you lie to me?]

The anger that was about to rise in Simon’s heart completely dissipated at Lilith’s question.

[I didn’t-]

[Just stop. One way or the other, I’ll get to know the truth... The full truth.]

Simon remained quiet, then he narrowed his eyes.

[Why are you telling me now then?]

[Who knows.]

Simon frowned, and his heart was filled with suspicion and wariness toward Lilith.

’Is she planning something?’

He eventually shook his head, and decided to focus on the discovery of his soul being damaged.

’So that’s the main reason behind my madness... A damaged soul.’

He held the bridge of his nose and released a frustrated sigh.

There was a time in his past life where his soul received some damage after suffering an attack against a god, and he knew how much he suffered in order to heal his soul.

’Soul injuries are the most difficult injuries to heal because there are very few methods that can heal them.’

’The Soul Eating Centipede is far more dangerous than I ever expected... And that damned pig has done a lot more damage to me than I expected.’

He looked at the heart resin of the Fleshwood with a complicated expression.

He was relieved that he was holding an item that could solve three problems he had.

The ability to heal himself.

The ability to restore his mental energy without having to sleep or rest.

And the ability to heal his soul.

However... Simon was so very suspicious and wary.

Not of the Fleshwood’s heart resin, but of the future.

Simon interacted with his spatial ring, and a vial appeared in front of him.

He grabbed the vial, and if Lucien was awake, he would be filled with shock because inside the vial was the Crimson Abyss Hydra’s blood essence.

How had Simon gotten it?

Well, if Hollow Sky Eye could work on Greater Demons, why would it not work on a mere slave?

Though, the slave was definitely going to be in serious trouble with his master in the future.

’When I saw the Hydra’s blood, I was only thinking of devouring it so that I can obtain its healing ability.’

’But it has one other usefulness, and that’s poison... It’s one of the ingredients for her ultimate creation.’

’Obtaining it is not a problem since I just need enough power to be able to kill a Hydra. But...’

Simon looked at the Hydra’s blood essence and the Fleshwood’s heart resin.

’...This is too much luck.’

And this was Simon’s problem.

Simon’s luck in his second life was horrendous.

For him to be so ’lucky’ was strange and definitely suspicious.

’Obtaining the Hydra’s blood essence in an auction is still believable, but obtaining an item whose history dates back to millions of years ago is too suspicious.’

’And this item solves three of my problems?’

’No... No... No... Something is definitely wrong.’

’I have bad feeling about this.’

This situation reminded Simon of the Devourer’s blood essence.

It was completely strange that Zaglur, a Daegrin would suddenly appear in their tribe and would also possess the Devourer’s blood essence.

And it was even more strange that Zaglur would be so careless to leave the Devourer’s blood essence out in the open.

Back then, he thought he was just lucky.

However, how many terrible things happened to him after this ”lucky incident” happened to him?

Right now, Simon was having a strong sense of déjà vu the more he looked at the Hydra’s blood essence and the Fleshwood’s heart resin.

Something was definitely going to happen to him.

And it was going to happen to him soon.

He just wasn’t sure of what it could be.

Waves upon waves of mental energy rose and fell in Simon’s sea of consciousness as he tried to think of the terrible things that could happen to him in the near future because of the Fleshwood’s heart resin.

And 98% of his answers pointed back at Caesar.

He had not confirmed it yet, but he was almost certain that the Fleshwood’s heart resin was what Caesar wanted from Lucien.

As for why exactly he wanted it?

Only Caesar knew the complete truth.

’If I’m feeling this threatened, then something terrible might be waiting for me back in the Shadowgrave Clan.’

’Should I run away?’

Simon looked at his Grave Mark which was on the back of his hand.

’Even if I’m able to remove the Grave Mark, the Shadowgrave Clan is definitely going to be looking for me. I’ll be targeted by the clan, and I’ll be on the lookout till I’m strong enough to destroy the Shadowgrave Clan.’

’This is bad.’

Simon held the bridge of his nose and released a deep sigh of frustration.

Then he looked at Lucien.

’First things first, let me wake him so that I can ask him some questions.’
