The Broken Halo

The feeling of nearly having something in your palm, only for it to be snatched away at the very last second was something that could not be easily explained.

The unpleasantness one would feel on the tip of their tongue and the anger one would feel in their hearts was indescribable.

And it was the same for Simon.

’Who the fuck wants to die?!’

Simon’s eyes flashed with anger and a fraction of his killing intent as he looked at the private box that outbid.

The demon in the private box had not placed a single bid on the hydra’s blood from the moment it came out.

But when Simon was about to win the hydra’s blood, that was when he knew that he wanted to place a bid?

How could Simon not be pissed?

How could he not be angry?

The other demons in the auction hall looked in the direction of the private box, and some began to speak.

“Ohh. It’s a servant of Elder Zevrik Morvain of the Morvain Clan.”

“I guess it’s not surprising then.”

“Yeah. I heard that his daughter has been poisoned for nearly five months now, but no herb or medicine has been able to work on her.”

“Elder Zevrik has been going around the demon realm in search of solutions, and I heard that he has been spending so much of the clan’s money recently.”

“Well, he can’t afford to lose his only daughter after all. Who will carry on his legacy after all?”

“No you fool. He cares for her.”

“Ohh… How strange.”

Simon listened to all of these and more that was being about this Elder Zevrik.

And the more he listened, the colder his expression became.

’That old man is definitely not going to give up on the hydra’s blood. If they’re not wrong and if they’re not exaggerating it, then it’s too important to give up.’

’The only thing that can make him give up is if he doesn’t have enough money. But if I eventually win it, he’ll definitely try to take it from me either by force or by negotiation.’

’That’s… not good at all.’

Simon clicked his tongue in annoyance the more he thought about this elder Zevrik.

Should he give up?

Or should he try his luck and continue bidding?

He could feel the weight of everybody’s gaze landing on him, and he also knew that the auctioneer had not started the countdown because the old Frostborn wanted to know if he was still going to place a bid.

Two seconds later, Simon made a decision.

He placed a bid.

“Four million low grade hell stones.”

Some demons released gasps of surprise when they saw him place a higher bid.

They all believed that he was going to back down and let it go considering the fact that he was a nobody compared to elder Zevrik.

Even the auctioneer and the servant of elder Zevrik was surprised when he increased the bid.

“Four hundred thousand intermediate grade hell stones.”

The servant increased the bid, and Simon’s lips twitched once again.

He was about to speak, but the servant’s voice echoes through the hall.

“My master said he’ll be grateful to you if you let him have the hydra’s blood. He doesn’t know who you are, but he said that he can give you something else in return for the hydra’s blood.”

Simon glanced at the private box with slightly narrowed eyes.

“And what will your master give me in return for the hydra’s blood?”

“A peak sovereign grade artifact. It’s an armor that can-”

Before the slave could even finish his words, Simon placed a higher bid.

“Four point four million.”

The slave was stunned.

First of all, was Simon truly not giving face to his master?

And did he just ignore a peak sovereign grade armor?

Even the remaining demons in the auction hall were surprised.

They didn’t expect this.

“You. Did you hear what I said?” The slave asked.

Simon nonchalantly waved his hand like he was shooing a fly.

“Bid if you want to bid and stop talking. Let your money do the talking for you.”

’Not like I have the money though. If the price goes above five million low grade hell stones, I’ll back out.’

Although what he was doing was dangerous and would definitely make him to be on bad terms with an elder of the Morvain clan, he could actually get away with it.

’If I win the bid, I’ll signal Vexa and the rest to cause chaos outside, deal with Lucien, take his wealth, then escape with Vexa and the rest through Vexa’s teleportation artifact.’

’Zevrik won’t be able to find me in the Shadowgrave Clan.’

’Well, that’s the whole summary of it… But there’s so much that could go wrong. Doesn’t mean I’ll stop though.’

’A hydra’s blood is very difficult to come by.’

While Simon was having this thought, the Zevrik’s slave clenched his fists and gritted his teeth in anger.

He wanted to threaten Simon, but that would only be him using his master’s name, and Simon had clearly showed that he was not fearful of his master.

’Does he have a more powerful backer? Or somebody that’s similar to my master?’

’But I’ve never seen him before.’

“Four point four million low grade hell stones going once…”

The old Frostborn’s voice brought the slave out of his thoughts, and he quickly placed a bid.

“Four point five million!”

“Five million.” Simon indifferently placed a higher bid without a moment’s hesitation.

The slave was stunned for a moment, and with anger spewing out of his eyes, he glared at Simon and placed a higher bid.

“SIX MILLION!”

Loud gasps of disbelief echoed across the auction hall, and even Simon was taken aback.

He looked at the private box, and though he could not see through the box, he gave the slave a thumbs up and waved.

“Huh?”

The slave blinked in confusion, then the old Frostborn’s voice echoed throughout the auction hall.

“Six million going once.”

“Six million going twice.”

“Six million gone!!!!”

“The Crimson Abyss Hydra’s Blood has been sold for six million low grade hell stones.”

“…”

The expression of the slave drastically changed, and a soft thud echoed in the auction hall.

The slave fainted.
