Fully Leveled Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1771: Chapter 1771: It’s Snowing

The victim families were originally supposed to claim their loved ones at the authorities, but the authorities now don’t resemble what they should, and Xia Yi has been overwhelmed with work, with people guarding outside the county office these days.

Especially the families of those officers who have been wrongfully imprisoned, they’ve been outside the county office crying out for justice.

A few days ago, Xia Yi ordered the arrest of a group, like Constable Hong, who openly conspired with the county magistrate in treason; their families might not be innocent. Nowadays, under the system of collective responsibility, Xia Yi apprehended the closest associates of Constable Hong and others.

If it weren’t for the overcrowded jail, preventing further detentions, more people would have been caught.

But even with a group arrested, there are still many people squeezed outside the county office seeking information.

Under such circumstances, it’s naturally inappropriate to arrange the claiming process at the county office, who knows if chaos might erupt.

Moreover, these victim families contributed significantly to this action, and Shu Yu intended to provide them a quiet environment to properly mourn and vent their emotions.

Therefore, Shu Yu had them wait directly at the abandoned mansion.

She represented the authorities to console them, and seeing their bloodshot eyes, Shu Yu herself felt uncomfortable.

Among those kidnapped and victimized by the black market, there were five in total.

Among them, four were young women, all forced to take their own lives due to unbearable humiliation.

Shu Yu had Qin Kun identify the rebel responsible, but unfortunately, managing the trade and capture was Fourth Chang, and the individuals who pressured them were all under Fourth Chang. Those people had followed Fourth Chang out of the black market and were engaging in guerrilla warfare with General Huang outside.

Xia Yi had promised the victim families that whether it was Fourth Chang or those under him who drove people to their deaths, they would pay with their lives directly.

Nevertheless, the dead cannot come back to life, even if those people pay with their lives. Shu Yu could only softly comfort them, advising them to accept the fate and move on.

After noon, there was indeed some noise from the secret passage.

Before long, Lu Wu emerged with his men.

Everyone who had been sitting and waiting in the room quickly stood up, and shortly, the spacious room was filled with the sounds of mournful cries.

Shu Yu quietly retreated with her people; being in such an atmosphere, even her nose couldn’t help but feel sour.

She glanced again at the stretcher carrying Tao Feili’s remains and turned to Lu Wu, saying, “Sorry to have you go in person.”

Lu Wu waved his hand, “Monarch Lu Xiang, your words are too kind.”

Watching Lu Wu leave, Shu Yu stood silently at the doorway, gazing at the distant scenery.

A white speck suddenly drifted down, and Shu Yu was taken aback, hearing Ying Xi’s surprised voice, “It’s snowing unexpectedly.”

Snowing?

She looked up as the snowflakes gradually grew larger, lightly dusting her shoulders. This snow, like a ritual, seemed to send these victims off.

Shu Yu wrapped her cloak tighter, suddenly feeling homesick. Though she hadn’t been away long, the events experienced felt like half a century had passed. Given the current situation, returning home for the New Year was certainly impossible.

Once General Huang’s situation outside the city is resolved, and the city gates can open for passage, she’ll need to send a letter home to ease their worries.

Shu Yu stood by the door watching the snow for a long time, only turning back into the house when the sounds of crying somewhat subsided.
