Fully Leveled Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1714: Chapter 1714: Two Choices

Two choices, they must pick one.

Meng Yunzheng looked at Shu Yu, “What do you think?”

The latter pondered for a moment and said decisively, “Return to the county town.”

“Coincidentally, that’s what I think too.”

Though Chenggu County is currently controlled by the county magistrate, that’s precisely why they need to return to Chenggu County. The Meng family is still in town, as are the families of Old Master Yang and He Er.

If they don’t return, all these people would become hostages of the county magistrate. Even if the rebellion outside has been quelled, as long as the gates of Chenggu County are closed and the secret tunnel guarded, they would still be under the thumb of others.

Rather than this, why not… break down Chenggu County from within?

Typically, a county town has three inspectors, each overseeing more than a hundred people, putting the total armed force of the county town at approximately four hundred.

However, Chenggu County has been through chaos, and following normal procedures, they would ask the prefecture for reinforcements.

The Changjin Prefecture is not a critical border area, thus it has less than two thousand stationed troops.

With such a big incident in Chenggu County, over two hundred soldiers have been sent over for assistance. The remaining eighteen hundred troops are split evenly between guarding the prefecture and ‘going up the mountains to eliminate bandits.’

Therefore, currently, Chenggu County has a total armed force of around six hundred.

Some of these six hundred are safeguarding the two gates, while the rest are patrolling inside the town.

But when Meng Yunzheng and Shu Yu roamed within the town, judging by the frequency of encounters with patrolling officers, the numbers didn’t add up.

Thus, they suspected that part of these six hundred men might have been dispatched to the black market, masquerading as mountain bandits, preparing to square off against the incoming General Huang.

Of course, the fewer the people, the better for them.

Moreover, Shu Yu thought, among so many people, it’s unlikely everyone has been bribed and stands with the Second Prince and Third Prince, right? It’s treason, a capital offense punishable by extermination of the entire family. Not everyone would gamble their family’s lives for such risks.

Now they had weapons and a secret tunnel directly leading to the county magistrate’s private residence, making it worth a try in this situation.

Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng were in agreement, and after reaching a consensus, they exited the armory and headed towards the infirmary.

But there weren’t many people in the infirmary at this time, only a few men under Lu Wu guarding the place.

They said Xia Yi took the others to the prison, and now that the black market bandits are caught, those in the prison could naturally be released.

Meng Yunzheng and Shu Yu then diverted towards the prison, where Xia Yi was freeing the girls locked up in the innermost cells.

Everyone was evidently joyful yet equally bewildered.

Especially the laborers locked near the entrance who were also released; they stood huddled together, looking rather bewildered.

They didn’t know what would happen next. With the black market people captured, could they leave now? Can they go home? Will these people let them out?

They didn’t know, and they were filled with anxiety about their uncertain future, fearing they might leave one wolf’s den only to fall into another tiger’s den.

Seeing this, Shu Yu sighed inwardly; these people needed time to adapt.

But obviously, they didn’t have much time.

Meng Yunzheng had already walked over to Old Master Yang and the others, and compared to everyone else, they were the happiest and most excited.

After being locked away for so many days, they could finally return home.

Upon seeing Meng Yunzheng and Shu Yu, they repeatedly expressed their gratitude, stating that once they returned home, they would definitely present lavish gifts.
