Chapter 1298: Chapter 1298: Xiang Weinan’s Promotion

Sunflower oil?

Shu Yu looked at him eagerly, and Meng Yunzheng smiled, “After the sunflower oil was delivered to the palace, the Emperor had it inspected and found it to be better, fresher, and healthier than ordinary oil.”

There are Imperial Physicians and specialized Food Doctors in the palace. For sunflower oil, which boasts a reputation for health and nutrition, they naturally conducted a thorough inspection, and the result was a pleasant surprise.

The Emperor was naturally pleased. Just as he ascended to the throne, a new, healthy cooking oil emerged. He immediately ordered the palace procurement to include sunflower oil in their daily supplies.

“So, it means that before long, someone from the palace will come to discuss the supply of sunflower oil with you.”

Shu Yu, “…”

Oh my god, this is quite the pressure.

Although this order from the palace is a windfall beyond imagination, it is also a hot potato.

Supplying the palace with food ingredients – if something goes wrong, it’s not something that can be easily explained away.

However! There’s no business without risk. Fortune comes with taking risks, and such an opportunity is rare. If she gives it up, she’ll be stuck running a small workshop in Jiangyuan County, and nothing more.

Moreover, with the palace’s endorsement, even if other places start planting sunflowers and extracting sunflower oil in the future, they won’t be able to compete with her. Her brand will gain immediate recognition from this.

Those in power and influential circles will naturally choose them, the Lu family.

Weighing the pros and cons, Shu Yu is more inclined to proceed with this business deal.

But she is unfamiliar with the palace procurement processes, and the court and harem are full of conspiracies and schemes. Someone might use sunflower oil for malicious purposes, so she voiced her concerns.

Meng Yunzheng chuckled and told her, “Don’t worry, the food procured for the palace undergoes rigorous checks, and even when it’s served, someone will taste it. No ordinary person would dare tamper with it.”

There are many vendors supplying the palace, from firewood, rice, oil, and salt, to clothes and jewelry, everything is thoroughly inspected. Sunflower oil is used sparingly, and it’s not in constant use, so there’s no need for excessive worry.

Meng Yunzheng suggested, “If worse comes to worse, whenever you dispatch a shipment, have Zhao Xi inspect the goods and pay him an additional wage to ensure there’s no room for mishaps.”

Shu Yu thought this idea was good, and felt happy again, considering how her two products had gained such a market right after their launch. “When will the palace procurement people come?”

“They’ll probably come with my promotion appointment,” Xiang Weinan calmly said from the side.

Shu Yu was taken aback, “A promotion?? Are you going back to the capital?”

Xiang Weinan nodded, “Yes, thanks to you. The new melon seeds and sunflower oil were presented from Jiangyuan County. As the county magistrate, I naturally contributed, and the Emperor used this pretext to summon me back to the capital.”

Of course, Xiang Weinan had already made contributions in the investigation of the Dongan Province magistrate case and the arrest of the Jiangyuan County magistrate.

Shu Yu’s two products merely served to ‘remind’ the Emperor that Jiangyuan County had such a person.

The new Emperor is in need of talented officials right now, and was originally looking for an excuse to transfer Xiang Weinan back to the capital. Shu Yu was the one who conveniently provided that excuse.

Furthermore, the Third Prince is secretly making moves, and Xiang Weinan has familial ties with the Xiao Family. The Emperor needs his help to deal with the Xiao Family.
