She is the Side Character! — Watch Her Change her fate!

Chapter 103: Chapter 103: The Groom Ran Away on the Wedding Night (Part 14)

”Don’t make up stories with me.” Ah Chen casually stepped on Yuan Zhicheng’s hand, causing him to whimper. The reason he wasn’t screaming in pain was that Ah Chen had gagged him with a cloth, leaving him unable to make loud noises.

Her methods of torture were numerous.

As if she does this kind of thing regularly.

Could she be involved with the local mafia?

After suffering extensively, Yuan Zhicheng no longer dared to fabricate stories and began to confess truthfully.

”My employer is a member of the Yun Family in Jiang City, named Yun Qing, Old Sir Yun’s most beloved daughter. The Yun Family is the wealthiest in Jiang City, with significant power; they’re the backbone of local enterprises, meaning not just anyone can afford to provoke them. As for why Yun Qing arranged for me to do this, I don’t know. I came to this small town a decade ago, not staying here continuously, just checking in every now and then. I don’t know what hatred she harbors against Xie Yan, but she instructed me to take photos of Xie Yan suffering and ensure that he doesn’t live well. Especially not to allow anyone to sponsor his education or let him smoothly go to high school.”

Ah Chen sat on the nearby chair with a cheerful smile, looking at him: ”You must have some speculations in mind, go ahead and spill them.”

Yuan Zhicheng took a deep breath, knowing he couldn’t hide anything from her.

”Later on, curiosity got the better of me, and I quietly investigated. Yun Qing’s elder brother, the Yun Family’s eldest son’s child, went missing many years ago, suspected of being abducted by traffickers, coincidentally matching Xie Yan’s age.”

”Beyond that, I really don’t know.”

”Even if your influence here is considerable, you can’t afford to provoke Yun Qing.”

”Even if you exposed Xie Yan’s identity to the Yun Family, Yun Qing wouldn’t face anything serious. At most, she’d be scolded, but she wouldn’t lose a pound of flesh. Old Sir Yun dotes on her to the extreme, and everyone in the Xie Family complies with her. Instead, you will undoubtedly face retaliation; for wealthy families like theirs, retaliating against someone is child’s play. As far as I know, Yun Qing is particularly vindictive; those who have crossed her never end well.”

But the other party was rather generous as well.

The reward offered was irresistible.

Initially, there was some burden in undertaking these tasks, but he later discovered that the money was too easy to earn, and he became increasingly adept at getting it.

Yuan Zhicheng wasn’t lying; Ah Chen could tell.

The Yun Family situation is complicated, as he said; if Xie Yan truly is the lost child of the Yun Family, returning could lead to unpredictable outcomes.

Furthermore, having only just met, sending him back so soon means it might be ages before seeing him again.

Better to ask for his opinion.

”Do as usual.”

”A smart person wouldn’t notify your employer.”

Ah Chen left these two lines and walked away.

Yuan Zhicheng indeed didn’t dare report this matter; failing at the task, exposing the employer, only a fool would confess to such a thing. Besides, this woman was fierce just now, with an air of the mafia about her, possibly having someone keeping an eye on him.

If he made any reckless moves, which day he might be bagged and thrown into the river would be unknown.

At the entrance of the town hospital, Ah Chen waited for quite a while, finally seeing Xie Yan walk out from inside.

Head hanging low, he walked towards a certain direction, looking utterly dejected.

She went up to intercept him.

Xie Yan reacted swiftly, barely avoiding bumping into her. Seeing that it was her, he turned away towards another direction.

”Lost all the money, huh!”

Xie Yan halted, silent.

He had lost it all.

The old man and his family were all rogues, and he had no choice but to compensate.

It was only when they realized he didn’t have a penny on him that they finally let it go.

Therefore, he can’t implicate others.

She seemed like a good person, so she should not be implicated either.

”I’ll earn it again.”

”It’s only a matter of two years.”

Actually, Xie Yan had considered giving up deep down, but he was somewhat unwilling, wanting to try once more.

”But what if something unexpected happens again by then?” Ah Chen followed him, ”Someone out there wants you to live poorly, are you still willing to go on like this?”

Xie Yan raised his head abruptly, his eyes flickering with disbelief.

Someone actually wants him to suffer?

”Come with me.”

Ah Chen turned around and walked towards Yuan Zhicheng’s small courtyard.

Xie Yan watched the gradually receding figure, never turning back, and quickly caught up.

What did her words mean?

He had to figure it out.

Yuan Zhicheng repeated the whole story. He thought Xie Yan would scream angrily, but instead, he just sat silently on the bench.

”Do you want to go back?” Ah Chen asked.

Xie Yan answered without hesitation: ”No.”

”From now on, let him take care of you, cook for you, wash your clothes, sound good?” Ah Chen patted Xie Yan’s head; his hair felt quite nice, ”He’ll be obedient.”

Yuan Zhicheng: ”...”

”Take good care of Xie Yan, make amends. If he doesn’t hold a grudge against you in the future, you’ll have some chance of survival.” Ah Chen suggested, ”Trust me, it’s the right move.”

Having someone to look after him would allow Xie Yan to study with peace of mind, Ah Chen thought to herself.

Yuan Zhicheng’s eyes twitched, but shamefully, he was tempted.

After all, what other options did he have besides this path?

Following this Xie Yan, who is very likely the young master of the Yun Family, at least offers a shot at a better future.

”When it’s time to submit the task, he’ll be right beside you. You can just take a posed photo, however you want to do it.” Ah Chen added.

If you want to continue hiding things, this person named Yuan can be quite helpful.

Yuan Zhicheng was even more tempted.

No need to be overly cautious, and the money comes easily!

”Not willing?” Ah Chen patted Xie Yan on the shoulder, ”Then what do you want to do?”

If he’s unwilling, then we’ll make other arrangements.

Xie Yan raised his head, the gloom in his eyes dissipated, leaving them clear and bright. Perhaps it hadn’t really left; he just didn’t want to show that somber side to her.

”Why are you helping me?”

”Doing a good deed.” Ah Chen replied casually, ”Didn’t you see last time?”

Xie Yan fell silent. Yes, she’s kind-hearted, helping someone who looks pitiful is normal.

”I want to ask him a few questions.”

”Those elderly women who adopted me, did they really die from illness or was it an accident? And that teacher who supported me and got injured, was it an accident or was it your doing?” If it wasn’t an accident and related to Yuan Zhicheng, he would never associate with that person.

Yuan Zhicheng took a deep breath, ”It really had nothing to do with me. The elderly women who adopted you were already old and didn’t eat well, faced the elements, getting sick was normal. As for that teacher, the injury really had nothing to do with me, it was an accident. I originally planned to have someone scare him a bit, but then something happened on the other side. I did have people create accidents before, like with the couple wanting to adopt you at the time, but it was just to intimidate them, no substantial harm was caused.”

To take someone’s life, he didn’t have the guts.

Once implicated, could he even escape? Taking a life is no small matter, he was scared too.

”Actually my employer kind of enjoyed watching you live a hard life with those elderly women, how could she have them killed? She was a bit regretful upon hearing this news before.”

Xie Yan stared directly at Yuan Zhicheng, as if discerning whether he was lying.

”He’s not lying.” Ah Chen confirmed.

Xie Yan breathed a sigh of relief, that’s good.

”Thank you,” he said to Ah Chen.

”You can call me Sister Xiao Chen, like Liao Qian does,” Ah Chen said with a smile.

It’s a rare opportunity.

Xie Yan clenched his fist, his body tense with nervousness, and finally called, ”Sister Chen.”

No one has probably called her Sister Chen before; he hopes that now and in the future, he’s the only one who calls her that.

Xie Yan entered school smoothly, no longer working part-time, and had Yuan Zhicheng to specifically take care of him.

Yuan Zhicheng always ate outside, but Ah Chen said eating out wasn’t healthy, so he was forced to learn cooking.

He’s giving it his all for the future!

On Friday night, Liao Qian came to the Lv Family. Normally, Ah Chen would be at the Lv Family over the weekend, but she had arrived on Friday afternoon.

Ah Chen sat in the main room as Liao Qian came in, followed by Xie Yan.

Liao Qian, already familiar with Ah Chen, bounced over and clung to her arm, ”Sister Xiao Chen.”

”Sit for a while, dinner will be ready soon,” Ah Chen asked Xie Yan, ”Are you able to keep up with the studies?”

Before Xie Yan could speak, Liao Qian chimed in, ”The class president is amazing, he got first place in the opening test in the whole grade. It’s a shame it was just a school test; if there were a ranking in the whole town, he might be first in the town.”

”I’m not the class president anymore,” Xie Yan reminded.

But the reminder was useless; many classmates liked to call him class president. The current class was the same as the previous one, and the original class president even wanted to give him the position, but he refused.

Now he just wanted to study.

Sure enough, Liao Qian said, ”You’re always the best class president in our hearts.”

Xie Yan noticed Ah Chen’s gaze, turned his head. He’s not as good as they think, he does many things with a purpose, long past the innocence of this age.

Like helping classmates solve some small troubles outside school, to get junior high school books and exam papers.

Liao Qian couldn’t sit still, wanting to help in the kitchen.

The main room was left with Ah Chen and Xie Yan.

”Does he behave?” Ah Chen asked.

Xie Yan knew she meant Yuan Zhicheng, ”He does.”

Yuan Zhicheng wasn’t the one who killed the elderly women who adopted him; he bore no grudge. The guy knew quite a bit, and he could learn a lot from him.

Xie Yan’s face suddenly reddened a bit. He took a gift box out of his bag and handed it to Ah Chen, ”Sister Chen, I heard your birthday is soon. This is a birthday present.”

Giving it early, because he’d be at school, and she might go out, might not find her then.

Ah Chen took it, ”You worked part-time again?”

With Xie Yan’s personality, he wouldn’t ask Yuan Zhicheng for money to buy this.

Xie Yan was a bit flustered, quickly said, ”Doesn’t interfere with my studies.”

He waited for her to open it.

Ah Chen opened it, revealing a beautiful crystal bracelet inside.

”It’s quite pretty, I really like it.”

She picked it up and tried to put it on her wrist, and Xie Yan felt a sudden impulse, leaned over, ”Let me help you?”

She looked up and smiled, ”Sure.”
