HP: I AM SHERLOCK HOLMES

The Earth revolves around the Sun, and the Moon revolves around the Earth.

Whether in Muggle families or wizarding families, this is common knowledge.

Harry and Ron stared at Sherlock with expressions as if they’d seen a dementor.

All along, Sherlock had given them the impression of being all-knowing and omniscient, as if there was nothing in the entire world that he didn’t know.

Even if he truly didn’t know something, it wouldn’t matter, because he could observe and use deductive reasoning to arrive at the answer.

But what was happening now?

Hermione couldn’t help but blurt out: ”You... you only know that the Earth orbits the Sun, nothing more about the Universe like number of planets?”

It was truly hard to imagine that in the 20th century, there were still people who didn’t know this fact.

”You all seem surprised?”

Seeing their expressions, Sherlock laughed. ”Even if I understood these things, I would try my best to forget them.”

”Forget them? Why?”

Sherlock tapped his skull with his finger:

”For me, the brain is like a hard drive—it only makes sense to store useful things in it.

Ordinary people often fill their minds with rubbish, and the consequence of doing so is that the knowledge truly useful to them gets squeezed out. When you really need to learn something, you’ll find it difficult.”

”But this is about the solar system!”

Hermione’s eyes widened, still looking incredulous.

”So what?”

Sherlock said in an impatient and rude tone:

”You say we revolve around the Sun and more about the universe, but even if we revolved around the Moon or spun around a garden like little bears, it wouldn’t have any impact on me or my life, would it?

So, stop tormenting me with your deeper insights!”

Harry and Ron exchanged glances.

’What he said makes so much sense, I’m speechless.’

As if sensing that his tone had been somewhat excessive, Sherlock immediately added:

”Sorry, I seem to have been rather rude... but that’s not important. From today on, I’ll have to remember these things—until this subject becomes an elective.”

That day, all the first-years in the class gained a deeper understanding of Sherlock.

Hermione discovered that she had misunderstood Sherlock in the past.

’This person is nothing like me at all!’

After Thursday’s Transfiguration and Charms classes, time came to the last day of study.

”Having classes with Slytherin is bad enough, but having Potions class with them is absolutely dreadful!”

According to the schedule, Gryffindor first-years would have two Potions classes together with Slytherin students.

This made every Friday a ”Black Friday” for the Gryffindor first-years.

”Snape is the Head of Slytherin House. They say he favors his own students.”

The terrible news made even Ron, who loved his food, lose his appetite as he stared gloomily at the food on the table.

”Professor Snape?”

When Ron mentioned this name, both Sherlock and Harry’s minds simultaneously conjured up the image of a man with greasy black hair, a hooked nose, and sallow skin.

Sherlock remembered him due to his excellent observation and memory skills.

Harry had an additional reason beyond that.

”Sherlock, at the opening feast, Professor Snape was staring at me...”

But just as he was about to tell Sherlock about this and hear his opinion, over a hundred owls suddenly flew into the Great Hall.

Among the flock of mail-delivering owls, a beautiful snowy owl fluttered its wings and landed between Harry’s jam dish and sugar bowl, placing a note on his plate.

”Hedwig?”

Harry was somewhat surprised.

So far, this owl that Hagrid had given him as a birthday present hadn’t brought Harry anything yet.

Unlike Sherlock’s Watson, which occasionally brought pleasant surprises.

”Hagrid wants to invite you to have afternoon tea with him.”

Sherlock said without lifting his head.

”Sherlock, did you learn some spell from Professor Flitwick that lets you see through paper?”

After saying this, Ron found it amusing and couldn’t help but laugh.

But his laughter soon stopped, because Harry’s expression as he read the note seemed to indicate that Sherlock hadn’t been wrong.

”He got it right again?”

He couldn’t help but mutter under his breath.

Harry nodded and pushed the note toward Ron.

Written in scrawling handwriting, it read:

[Dear Harry: I know you have no classes on Friday afternoon. I wonder if you could come around three o’clock for tea? I’d very much like to know how your first week went. Please send me an answer with Hedwig.]

The two couldn’t help but stare at each other.

Although they had witnessed Sherlock’s abilities more than once, whenever new situations arose, they were still amazed by his skills.

”Bloody hell! How did you deduce that?”

”Deduce what?”

”Just... how did you know this letter was from Hagrid, and that he was inviting Harry for tea?”

”I don’t have time to discuss such trivial matters.”

Sherlock’s tone wasn’t kind, just like when he had dealt with Hermione on Wednesday night.

But just as Ron was about to say something, Sherlock immediately smiled and said:

”Please forgive my rudeness—you interrupted my train of thought, but it doesn’t matter.

So, you couldn’t tell that this letter was from Hagrid to Harry?”

”At least not before opening it.”

”Understanding this matter is rather easy, but explaining how I understood it is somewhat more difficult.

It’s like asking you to prove that one plus one equals two—you’d inevitably find it somewhat difficult, though we both know it’s an indisputable fact.”

Meeting Harry and Ron’s eager gazes, Sherlock thought for a moment and decided to explain:

”Just now I saw Hedwig flying toward you from several tables away, with a note tied to her leg. This obviously indicated that someone had written you a letter.

The Dursleys wouldn’t normally write to you, and as a new student, you don’t know many people at the magical school. Most are students who eat and attend classes with you daily—they wouldn’t use owls to contact you.

Hedwig usually asks you for a piece of toast when she comes, but she didn’t today, obviously because she was already well-fed.

Someone who could feed her well, had a friendship with you at school, and needed to use owl post—the only person I can think of who meets all three conditions is Mr. Rubeus Hagrid.

As for the letter’s content, it’s easy to deduce: as the good friend who originally brought you to school, wanting to know about your first week is perfectly natural.

Plus, we only have this afternoon free from classes this week—so based on these circumstances, I believed Hagrid was inviting you for afternoon tea.”

”Brilliant!”

”Marvelous!”

Harry and Ron couldn’t help but exclaim, drawing sideways glances from nearby people.
