Who Brought Him into the Cultivation World?

”Yes, Elder Gao.”

There is nothing more touching than being remembered by such a figure.

”I remember having established a rule with the Inspectorate: no kneeling for Shangguan. Where did you learn such behavior?”

Gao Feng slowly stepped forward, his tone slightly displeased.

Sikong Du quickly stood up, quietly safeguarding the situation.

Han Yu watched this elder, while Gao Feng also looked at him.

After a moment, Gao Feng spoke first, his aged face crinkling into a smile as he began.

”You’re that little lad named Han, aren’t you! Over the past few months, the Inspectorate has been busy on your behalf.”

Ever since Han Yu appeared out of nowhere and the incidents in the State Prefecture grew larger, the Inspectorate indeed scrambled for quite some time, not only not ruling out an investigation but also tracing every detail.

It took quite an effort to dig him out.

Gao Feng had reviewed all the files, naturally aware of the extensive effort by the Inspectorate.

”The affair at Yanbo Prefecture was brilliantly handled!”

The smile on Gao Feng’s face grew wider. For a long time, the chaos in Yanbo Prefecture had been a persistent malady, stuck like a thorn, and despite the need for stability, the Imperial Court could not intervene extensively.

Han Yu’s comprehensive capture certainly had a major impact, but for the Imperial Court, the murky atmosphere of Yanbo Prefecture was cleared away in one fell swoop; with just a few years of development, it could become a prosperous land.

Inside the Fifth Tower, others might not dare to make a declaration about Han Yu, but he dared.

A good deed is a good deed, why shouldn’t it be proclaimed?

Are we afraid of those sects being dissatisfied?

If it weren’t for his lack of interest in getting involved, the Inspectorate would have rewarded Han Yu for the matter of Yanbo Prefecture alone.

For the first time, Han Yu heard someone praise him in this manner, and he couldn’t help but feel a sense of fondness, quickly clasping his fists.

”It was all unintentional on my part.”

His face was full of smiles; how could it be unintentional?

Seeing this, Gao Feng couldn’t help but laugh and frankly said, ”An interesting child.”

”Now, the old man wants to owe you a favor. I wonder if you are willing?”

As these words fell, Han Yu was astonished, and even Sikong Du and the four guards were visibly shocked.

”Elder Gao, you mustn’t.”

Sikong Du quickly stepped forward to stop him.

The elder’s purpose must be for the Awakening Ear Pill, but with the Inspectorate backing them, there was no need for him to owe a favor.

If our Tower Master were here, he surely wouldn’t allow it either.

Gao Feng, however, waved his hand and then pulled out the little child beside him, his cloudy eyes filled with pity.

”This is also a personal matter. This is my young grandson, who has been deaf since childhood. Various methods have been tried over the years, but unfortunately, medicine has proven ineffective. I came today to ask Little Friend Han for that Awakening Ear Pill.”

After saying this, he signaled to the child with his eyes. The child quietly took a few steps forward and then suddenly knelt down.

Han Yu was startled, unprepared as no one had ever kneeled and pleaded for a pill before; for a moment, he wanted to avoid it.

”If Little Friend is willing to lend a helping hand, this great favor would surely be graciously accepted, without any shame in receiving it.”

Gao Feng spoke from the side.

”I am willing to give it; please have him stand up!”

Han Yu quickly said, having already made up his mind. Compared to Bai Bufen, if a Pill could restore a child’s hearing, he would undoubtedly choose the latter.

However…

Han Yu hesitated, looking at the child who still refused to rise. Such a tender age, with rosy lips and white teeth, could he handle the side effects?

”I’m afraid he might not be able to withstand it…”

Meanwhile, he quickly consulted the Artifact Spirit within the Sea of Consciousness.

”Normally, side effects are not life-threatening; it shouldn’t be fatal.”

Glass said confidently from within the fog.

Nonsense, many Pills aren’t fatal, yet leave people half-dead.

This is still a child; if he truly cannot withstand it, it would be a grave sin.

”Life and death are matters of fate. He is willing to take the risk.”

Gao Feng sighed from beside him.

Han Yu wanted to ask personally, and after supporting the child, he gestured intensely. However, as he didn’t know sign language, after a long while, even he was unsure of what he was conveying.

Gao Jue suddenly spoke, although his voice was muddled and hard to understand, he expressed his will.

”Me… not… afraid… me… willing!”

He could speak! Most deaf people lose the ability to speak because they can’t hear, yet Gao Jue could vaguely communicate with others.

What resilience must lie within this small frame to support his learning of the sounds he couldn’t hear.

The hardship he endured is unimaginable.

Han Yu’s expression turned complex, then he slowly took out a Pill.

Gao Jue’s eyes lit up with an incomparable brightness when he looked at the Pill. He longed to hear sounds; his world had been silent for over a decade.

”Elder, have you truly decided?”

Han Yu cautiously looked at Gao Feng, gravely confirming.

”Rest assured, I know your Pills. Even if something happens afterward, I will not blame you.”

With Gao Feng’s assurance, Han Yu pushed the Pill towards Gao Jue.

Gao Jue stared at the round Pill in front of him, unable to hide his excitement. Without hesitation, he picked up the Pill and placed it in his mouth.

A group of people anxiously surrounded him, fearing any unforeseen mishaps.

After the Pill entered his mouth, Gao Jue first felt a warm sensation spreading throughout his body, and then an energy continuously flowed into his ears.

Visibly, his ears expanded and became elongated, with a black pus continually oozing from them.

It succeeded!

Elder Gao’s aged body trembled uncontrollably, moved beyond measure.

Gao Jue looked around, a strange sensation sweeping over him. Although everyone around him was silent, various sounds distinctly reached his ears.

The sound of iron forging… hawking… quarreling… flowing water.

It seemed to stretch farther and farther, the sound of the wind, the sound of leaves falling.

Suddenly, all sounds appeared in his mind simultaneously, swirling into a frenzy, as if about to burst his head apart.

”Ah!”

Amidst a cry of agony, Gao Jue’s small body suddenly fell, clutching his head and rolling incessantly.

The screams were extraordinarily shrill, heart-wrenching.

Han Yu gritted his teeth with a hint of reluctance, wanting to intervene and knock him out, but Gao Feng held his hand firmly.

”Knocking him out won’t help; this hurdle must be overcome; otherwise, waking up afterward, he will still have to endure.”

Though saying so, Gao Feng’s other hand trembled uncontrollably; after all, that was his grandson.

According to the side effects, this hurdle was insurmountable. The sudden influx of so many sounds inside his head would be unbearable for anyone.

Yet surprisingly, to everyone’s disbelief, Gao Jue’s writhing body gradually calmed down, and even his screams grew fainter.

After a quarter of an hour, Gao Jue had no movement, his small body curled up on the ground.

Sikong Du thought he had fainted and was about to check when the small figure suddenly moved.

Gao Jue’s tear-streaked face bore an unprecedented expression, his eyes shining with unparalleled brilliance.

”What is happening…”

Han Yu stared dumbfounded at Gao Jue, and not just him; everyone bore expressions of disbelief, except for Gao Feng, who breathed a deep sigh of relief, a hint of blush on his pale face.

”He withstood it!”

The voice of Little Artifact Spirit came with a sigh.

”His original world had no sound, so the concept of sound was nonexistent in his mind. After taking the Pill, although the influx of these sounds caused initial discomfort, once his body adapted to them, these sounds became normal for him.”

”Perhaps such an explanation isn’t accurate, but what is certain is that he transitioned from one extreme to another.”

”He perfectly adapted to this Pill.”

Han Yu gaped at Gao Jue; that is to say, the so-called lack of autonomous control was merely being passively exposed to all surrounding sounds, like any ordinary person.
