Super Gene Hunting Ground

Xing Zhe shivered hearing Yang Xiao’s words and hurried a few steps forward, closely following behind Yang Xiao.

”Yang Xiao, do you think there might be a higher level Mountain Cannon Demon Beast ahead?”

”It’s not a guess, there certainly is, and the smaller Mountain Cannon Demon Beast I just killed is very likely the child of that higher evolution level demon beast.”

”Damn, if that demon beast knows we killed its child, won’t it come after us for revenge?”

”What do you think?”

Yang Xiao didn’t stop for a moment and quickened his pace to run forward.

However, in this Underground River Tunnel, they couldn’t run too fast.

The two ran back to the spot where they had previously slept and rested.

Xing Zhe was about to jump onto the shore to rest, but he saw Yang Xiao dive directly into an underground river water cave, submerging instantly.

Xing Zhe didn’t dare to linger either, followed Yang Xiao into the water cave, and continued forward.

The two walked for an unknown duration, eventually returning to the Six-Winged Centipede’s cave, where Yang Xiao finally jumped out of the underground river water and let out a long sigh.

”I’m exhausted.”

Xing Zhe also jumped out, lay on the ground, and said:

”Yang Xiao, do you think there really is a higher realm demon beast at the end of this Underground River Tunnel?”

”It’s always good to be prepared, don’t you remember that Qiluo Clan people’s skeleton?”

”Hmm, what’s up with that?”

”If I’m not mistaken, Wu Feng accidentally entered that demon beast’s lair, got chased down by the beast, and eventually died there.

Before Wu Feng died, he recorded his last words, hoping that someone would deliver a message to his clansmen upon finding his remains and return the very important Rune Key Jade Pendant for the Defensive Light Curtain Gate,

which probably relates to the survival of the Qimo Clan, making him urgently record it before his death.”

As Yang Xiao deduced, Xing Zhe suddenly realized and nodded,

”Yang Xiao, I think you’re correct, according to your speculation, there must be another terrifying Super Demon Beast in this Underground River water tunnel,

what are you planning to do? Return to the academy?”

Yang Xiao thought for a moment, sighed, and laughed:

”Xing Zhe, are you willing to go back?”

Xing Zhe was startled, then laughed and said:

”Of course I’m not willing, I’m counting on breaking through to the Emperor Middle Level here before going back, the resources here are excellent. If we can find the source of the Underground River water and cultivate for a while, we might quickly break through to the Emperor Middle Level.”

”Which is more important, life or cultivation?”

”...”

Yang Xiao and Xing Zhe both sincerely wanted to quickly find the underground river’s source to break through to the Emperor Middle Level given how rich the evolution energy here was, hard to find elsewhere.

However, when they thought about the potential presence of an Emperor Peak, or even a Saint Level Realm Super Demon Beast inside, a chill crept up their spines.

The duo chatted for a while, ate some Flying Gold Fish dried meat, and then laid on the ground for rest.

They had stayed in this Six-Winged Centipede’s cave for months and were quite familiar with the environment around, hence felt safe to sleep.

”Bang, bang, bang,”

Yang Xiao was sleeping soundly but was startled awake by a series of low sounds.

He opened his eyes, scanned the surroundings of the cave, and found nothing unusual.

Beside him, Xing Zhe also woke up suddenly.

The two exchanged glances.

”Bang, bang, bang!”

The heavy sound echoed again causing Yang Xiao to feel the faint trembling of the rock ground beneath him, sending a shiver through his heart.

”Xing Zhe, did you feel anything?”

Xing Zhe was also terrified,

”I felt the ground shaking.”

”I have a bad feeling,”

”Did that Super Demon Beast come out?”

”Most likely, that Super Demon Beast discovered its child was killed by us and is digging its way along the Underground River Tunnel here,

listen to those banging sounds and the trembling of the ground.”

Yang Xiao and Xing Zhe held their breath, feeling the terrifying atmosphere.

”This tunnel is over a dozen kilometers long, the demon beast won’t dig so far, will it?”

”Hard to say, if it’s determined to avenge its child, it’ll definitely dig all the way here, and even if it can’t dig through for now, it might persist for several days.”

”What should we do then? It’s too dangerous.”

”There’s only one option, to retreat.”

”Right, time to return, we’ve stayed here for over five months, long enough. The academy probably thinks we’re dead.”

Without delay, Yang Xiao and Xing Zhe jumped into the Underground River Tunnel heading towards the Ghost Snake’s cave, then continued back to the 101 Cultivation Field’s underground tunnel.

”Yang Xiao, I reckon that beast won’t get through for a while, we need to figure out a way to get out quickly.”

Yang Xiao chuckled:

”Getting out is a simple task, don’t worry, did you forget this?”

Yang Xiao pulled out a silver longsword he found in the tunnel from his Space Ring.

Seeing it, Xing Zhe immediately laughed excitedly:

”With this Divine Weapon, it’s much faster than us digging by hand.”

The ”bang, bang, bang” sound in the underground tunnel had never stopped; even in the 101 Cultivation Field underground tunnel, they could still feel the slight vibrations of the cave rocks.

The two dare not linger, directly approaching the entrance of the tunnel blocked by rubble.

”Xing Zhe, I’ll use the sword to slice up the rocks in the tunnel ahead, you clear the debris behind me and use it to fill the tunnel behind us.”

”Okay!”

Gripping the silver longsword, Yang Xiao infused Genetic Evolution Energy and a sword qi tens of meters long surged forth, piercing directly into the rubble in front of the tunnel.

Yang Xiao stirred the longsword among the rubble, breaking the huge rock blocks into smaller pieces.

Xing Zhe stood behind, gesturing with his hands, forming a long chain of broken rocks that flew backward.

Xing Zhe waved his hands, flinging those fragments into the tunnel over a hundred meters behind.

The duo worked together, tirelessly digging through the tunnel.

Although just fragments, the original site of the 101 Cultivation Field was a small hill about a hundred meters high, completely destroyed by an explosion. Tons of rocks collapsed, completely burying the 101 Cultivation Field, making it impossible for Yang Xiao and Xing Zhe to clear the cave in a short time.

Furthermore, these fragments would roll; as Yang Xiao broke up some, after clearing a short distance, surrounding fragments would again fall, filling the entrance.”

The two continuously operated Genetic Evolution Energy to the point of exhaustion, requiring a rest every hour of work.

Within the cave where time is intangible, they rested briefly when tired and continued to work afterward.

As they stopped to rest, the ”bang, bang, bang” sound from the underground river persisted.

And it seemed to grow louder, with even the ground’s tremors intensifying.

Xing Zhe cursed:

”Damn it, that beast keeps digging, seemingly intent on eating us.”

”No kidding, if someone killed your child, wouldn’t you fight to the end? Get back to work, the quicker we get out, the better—otherwise, we’ll become food for the beast.”
