Super Gene Hunting Ground

Chapter 164: Chapter 164: Big Meat Bun

Yang Xiao continuously broke through over a dozen large holes in the ice surface, each hole about 20-30 meters in diameter and approximately 7-8 meters deep. More than a dozen big fish flew out directly, and there are many more visible at the bottom of the holes that could be easily dug out by sending people down.

Xia Luo and the others watched, dumbfounded. This was the workload of dozens of people that usually couldn’t be completed in a day.

”My goodness, if we continue digging like this, won’t it all be dug up very soon?”

Zhou Qiang exclaimed.

Xia Luo came back to his senses, his face covered with an ingratiating smile. This was the first time Yang Xiao saw such a ”disgusting” smile on Xia Luo’s face.

”Yang Xiao, your Soul Skill is incredible; please, could you help us drill a few more holes?”

Yang Xiao smiled and said:

”What are you thinking? Do you think this doesn’t consume Qi? Can your Mountain Crossing Punch be used continuously without getting tired?”

Xia Luo was speechless and, maintaining his smiling face, said:

”Then how about helping us dig a few big holes after you rest? Please, you’ve always been so enthusiastic and selfless...”

”Stop right there!”

Yang Xiao laughed:

”Don’t try to charm me with your flattery; I don’t fall for that. I’m not exactly selfless. I’m helping you with a motive. How about this: I help you make ten holes every day, as compensation for using your path through Xianan University to dig for Ice Fish?”

The quickest route for Yang Xiao and others to dig Ice Fish in Star River was, of course, through the Transmission Array to Xianan University.

Xianan University, located by the river, has a direct road several kilometers long to Star River. This is the fastest route. Without this access through Xianan University, Yang Xiao and his group would need to detour more than twenty kilometers to reach Star River, wasting a lot of time every day.

Xia Luo thought for a moment and said:

”Alright, deal!”

Having Yang Xiao help them make ten massive ice holes every day would save them a lot of manpower and time.

Yang Xiao, with Xiao Zhe and others, followed the ice downstream around 2 kilometers away from Xia Luo and others to start digging for Ice Fish.

After resting for a while and feeling his Qi restored somewhat, Yang Xiao began using One Finger Splitting Earth on the ice river to dig holes.

Crack, crack, crack...

Huge spikes jutted out of the ice, flipping up large blocks of ice, along with the large fish beneath the ice surface.

After Yang Xiao had dug ten ice holes, Xiao Zhe, Zhao Gang, Long Yongjun, and others went over, pulling out the big fish that surfaced and took them to the river bank. Then, they sent people down into the ice holes to excavate the exposed Ice Fish.

As a single big fish weighed about 200-300 pounds, they directly gave up on the dozens of smaller fishes weighing tens of pounds, since food was not scarce at the moment.

Some began to butcher the big fish on the spot, stabbing the fish’s heads with Longswords. The butchered Ice Fish would struggle a bit, bursting out Fish Skin Armor and Genetic Disks.

Busy all day, by evening, Yang Xiao and his group had butchered over a hundred big fish, acquiring more than 70 pieces of Fish Skin Armor and hundreds of intact Genetic Disks.

”Boss, at this rate, it won’t even take half a month for all of us to have cold-resistant armor.”

Xiao Zhe said excitedly.

Zhao Gang, however, expressed his concerns:

”With so many fish, we can’t finish eating them, right?”

”Got full from eating well for two days and already showing off? If we can’t finish, we’ll store them. The foods won’t spoil in this freezing weather.”

In the evening, Yang Xiao and the others carrying the big fish returned to Kongming Academy. Huang Wen and others were thrilled upon seeing such big fish.

Xu Nanqiang specially washed a pot and made a fire to stew several large pots of fish soup for everyone.

Over the next few days, Yang Xiao kept taking everyone to the ice river to catch fish. The amount of fish, as well as the Fish Skin Armor we obtained, kept increasing. By the day before the festival, we had acquired 200 pieces of Fish Skin Armor, which meant that over two hundred more people could now go outside wearing them.

Huang Wen had already mentioned to Yang Xiao the day before:

”Tomorrow is the festival, no one should go out to fish. Everyone should stay.”

Yang Xiao also took the rare chance to be lazy and slept in. For the past few months, he had been leading everyone in a struggle for survival, rarely having a moment to quiet his own mind.

Early in the morning, the cave dwelling became busy.

The aroma of fried dough sticks and cakes wafted through the whole dwelling.

”Damn, can’t you let people sleep? It smells so good so early in the morning.”

Long Yongjun complained while quickly getting up.

”Boss, I’m going to grab some food, you keep sleeping.”

Long Yongjun sprinted to the kitchen where dozens of people were already waiting in line.

”Wow, there are big buns too. Feifei, hurry up, your favorite big buns are here, and there are buns filled with wolf meat!”

Chen Fei shouted.

”What? Big meat buns? Save two for me; I’m getting up right away.”

Feifei had also planned to be lazy and sleep in, but he got up from bed all at once.

Haha,,,

The cave dwelling was filled with joyful laughter.

Yang Xiao guessed he wouldn’t be able to sleep in after all, so he got up as well.

By the time Yang Xiao reached the kitchen, hundreds of people were already in line. But everyone was moving fast. Xu Nanqiang’s logistics team had set up five serving stations. Everyone took a bowl of porridge, grabbed two steamed buns or some fried cakes, and then scooped two big spoonfuls of wolf meat.

The wolf meat was filling; there was plenty to go around.

Everyone carried their bowls back to their beds in the cave dwelling, sitting and chatting while they ate.

After breakfast, most of the girls stayed to help prepare the New Year’s feast, while others who were bored went outside to the playground to ice skate.

The entire playground had now turned into an ice rink, the three-meter-thick snow had hardened. Everyone strapped two planks to their feet and, holding two sticks, could skate across the playground.

This activity was also a way for everyone to keep warm.

At this moment, inside the teaching building of Xianan University, it was also a lively and busy scene.

Xianan University now had over 200 pieces of cold-resistant Hard Armor, allowing more and more people to move outside, significantly enhancing the collective’s survival and combat abilities.

A large amount of Ice Fish solved the food shortage problem, easing everyone’s minds. After all, having food means no panic.

When Yang Xiao came yesterday, he also brought 100 bags of rice and 20 bags of flour, saying it was a New Year’s gift for them, which excited Xia Luo and the others. They hadn’t eaten rice or flour-based foods in a long time.

At that moment, Xia Luo, Zhou Qiang, and others gathered to have breakfast, savoring the rare chance to drink porridge; everyone drank three big bowls each.

Suddenly Zhou Qiang said:

”Boss, there’s something I’m not sure if I should say.”

”Heh, what can’t we talk about among us? Now we, the remaining 800 or so people, are all brothers and sisters who have suffered together, all struggling from the brink of death. There’s nothing we can’t say to each other.”

Xia Luo laughed.

Having gone through several life-and-death battles, Xia Luo also felt deeply and had some reflection and restraint regarding his previous confidence and arrogance.
