Super Gene Hunting Ground

Chapter 140: Chapter 140: Xianan University Calls for Help (Six Chapters, Please Subscribe)

The second wave of attack proved to be a tough fight for Yang Xiao and others. After suffering over twenty casualties, they finally managed to kill more than twenty Snow Wolves.

As the Wolf King sensed that the situation was not in their favor, it let out a howl and turned to flee. Upon hearing the command, the other Snow Wolves also quickly escaped. In moments, they left behind more than forty corpses and disappeared without a trace.

Yang Xiao and his team didn’t dare to let their guard down, they held their position at the cave entrance for about half an hour. After confirming the Snow Wolves had retreated, they finally withdrew.

Everyone busily dragged the forty-plus Snow Wolf corpses to the cave entrance. Given the current low temperature, the whole Earth was like a giant freezer, so there was no need to worry about the food spoiling.

The freshly killed Snow Wolves would turn into blocks of ice if not processed within half an hour.

Huang Wen quickly took her team of flying warriors back to the surface, where more than a dozen people had suffered from frostbite due to the severe cold.

”Xu Nanqiang, heat up and stew some wolf meat for a late-night snack.”

”Yes, boss!”

The logistics team, comprised of hundreds of people, was dispatched. Some were tasked with dealing with the Snow Wolf corpses, and others went to the kitchen to cook.

This time around, twenty-five pieces of Snow Wolf Armor were obtained, and Yang Xiao immediately had everyone put them on.

Over a hundred intact Primordial Gene Discs were found, each wolf yielding three to four Genetic Disks.

Five people deceased, everyone felt deeply saddened.

In this post-apocalyptic world, death could come at any time–whether from starvation, freezing, or being killed by Mutated Creatures. Everyone remarked on the fragility of life.

The injured were easier to manage. The Small Blood Pills, which couldn’t raise the dead, almost miraculously healed bone fractures and flesh wounds resulting from common fights.

”Zhao Gang, prop up the iron door and see if we can do a simple repair to stand it upright again. Without this door, we can’t sleep peacefully at night.”

Zhao Gang immediately led people to inspect the door, and they used generators and welding machines to repair the damaged parts overnight. After 2 hours of busy work by dozens of people, they finally installed the door as dawn broke.

Given the fierce battle they had just encountered, nobody felt like sleeping.

It was nearly 6 o’clock now, and the sky outside the cave was gradually getting brighter.

”Boss, how should we handle the bodies of our deceased brothers?”

Xiao Zhe came over and asked.

Yang Xiao paused and then said:

”Wait until it gets brighter, we’ll go to the nearby hillside. I’ll use One Finger Splitting Earth to dig a large pit and bury them all there. Sigh, that’s the least we can do for them.”

Everyone laid the bodies of the five deceased teammates side by side in front of the cave. Among them was a female Elemental Mage who had been bitten to death by Snow Wolves that broke through the defenses. Her face was covered in blood, which gave her a terrifying appearance.

The remaining four men, who were Close Combat Beast Souls, had all died from their necks being bitten through by Snow Wolves.

A heavy silence fell upon the group.

After hesitating for a moment, Qin Yu walked over, knelt in front of the dead girl, and gently rearranged her hair, tidying it up.

The cold weather had turned the blood in her hair and on her face into ice. She warmed the girl’s face with her palms, melting the blood clumps, then took out a packet of tissue and gently wiped it away. She straightened the girl’s clothes and finally placed two tissues over her severed throat.

Tears slid down Qin Yu’s face.

Yang Xiao watched, his heart moved, and a sense of sorrow rose within him.

Seeing Qin Yu’s actions, the others silently wept as well.

Yang Xiao stepped forward, knelt down, and looked at Qin Yu:

”We who are alive must cherish our lives, that is the least we can do to honor those who have died.”

Qin Yu nodded with a choked sob.

Seeing their deceased comrades, nobody felt like eating.

Yang Xiao decided to lead everyone to carry the bodies of the five outside the cave.

Despite the freezing weather, most who could endure the cold went outside to bid their fallen comrades farewell.

At a small hillside over a hundred meters from the cave, Yang Xiao used One Finger Splitting Earth to dig a large hole on the slope, then placed the bodies of the five into it, and covered them with earth.

Yang Xiao was the first to bow three times, as a final tribute to their fallen comrades.

Standing beside Yang Xiao, Qin Yu suddenly spoke in a low voice:

”If one day I die, will you bury me?”

Yang Xiao was startled, nodded his head.

”Will you remember me?”

Yang Xiao was startled again, and said with a bitter smile:

”Perhaps I will die before you.”

”If you die before me, I will bury you with my own hands.”

Yang Xiao smiled:

”Life isn’t easy, let’s cherish it while we live!”

...

After burying their comrade, everyone returned to the cave dwelling, not sure who remarked:

”Hey, the heavy snow has stopped for two days now, it seems the snow has hardened, and we won’t sink into it anymore.”

At the moment, everyone was still standing on three meters of snow; because they had been mourning their fallen comrade, no one had noticed this detail. Now that someone brought it up, they immediately checked the snow under their feet. It indeed had become much harder; previously, a step would sink into deep snow, but now it barely left several centimeters deep footprints.

”Now that there’s no fresh snow, the weather has changed from snowy to freezing, and the original snow has been frozen, naturally becoming hard.”

”If it doesn’t snow again, does that mean the winter is over?”

”Heh, impossible. With such thick snowfall and no sun in the sky, as long as the snow doesn’t melt, our winter isn’t considered over. Or perhaps, Earth’s Ice Age is just beginning.”

...

Everyone chatted along the way, feeling slightly better.

Back at the cave dwelling, they began eating wolf meat and drinking wolf soup.

Out of hatred for Snow Wolves, Qin Yu forced herself to eat 2 pounds of wolf meat and drank two large bowls of soup.

”I must become stronger, to protect myself and the people around me,”

Qin Yu said to herself silently.

Yang Xiao called a meeting in the cave dwelling.

”The snow has stopped, we need to start a new life now, and the first task, also the most urgent task, is the new appearance of Snow Wolves,

We have killed about half of these Snow Wolves; they no longer have the capability to attack us. I expect they will hide in the mountains. If not eliminated, they will always be a hidden danger. I want to lead a team to hunt down these Snow Wolves, what do you think?”

”But, boss, can we really defeat the Snow Wolves?”

Someone asked.

”Of course we can. I didn’t dare say this before, but after these two battles, we have the confidence to defeat the remaining Snow Wolves. There are about thirty pieces of Snow Wolf Armor from the Wolves we killed. If we let thirty elite members wear them, together with Xiao Zhe and the five of us, we’re fully capable of exterminating the remaining forty-something Snow Wolves.

Hunting the Snow Wolves, on one hand, can eliminate the threat they pose to us, and on the other hand, we can obtain more Snow Wolf Armor. I want to get a piece of Snow Wolf Armor for everyone, so that everyone can freely move in the wilderness while wearing it.”

After discussing for a while, everyone thought that dealing with the threat of the Snow Wolves was indeed a top priority. Otherwise, a small team would not be able to travel alone in the future, as they might be attacked and killed by the Snow Wolves that could suddenly appear.

While Yang Xiao and the others were discussing the strategy to hunt down Snow Wolves, someone standing at the entrance of the cave dwelling on lookout suddenly pointed towards the distant playground and said:

”Someone has appeared in the Transmission Array.”

Yang Xiao and the others stood up to look. Indeed, 400 meters away, at the Transmission Array, a figure glanced around and hurried towards the cave.

The person seemed to have a hard time walking, staggering, and suddenly tripped and fell onto the snow, struggling to stand up but unable to rise.

Yang Xiao immediately said to Long Yongjun:

”You and Zhao Gang go over there and check what’s happening.”

Long Yongjun and Zhao Gang ran over, lifted the person up, and saw that it was Zhou Qiang from Xianan University.

Zhou Qiang was covered in blood, opened his eyes to see Long Yongjun, and said:

”Xianan University is in crisis, please save us!”
