Wu dong Qian Kun: I, Lin Langtian, Refuse to be a Supporting Character

The Heaven-Earth Sect’s atmosphere of war preparations had been brewing for days, reaching an absolute peak.

Above the sect, countless streaks of light tore across the sky every day, boundless battle intent surging up to the heavens.

On the Heaven-Earth Continent, where conflict never ceased, war was a common occurrence, having nothing to do with notions of justice or evil, but everything to do with the naked law of the jungle—where the weak were prey to the strong.

Only when a new overlord rose and swept away all rivals might true peace descend upon the land for a time; before that, war was inevitable.

Silver Mist Palace.

Within the great hall, the high-ranking members of the palace had all assembled.

On the stone platform before them, spiritual light condensed into an enormous and intricate map woven entirely of spiritual power.

”At present, the forces under all Nine Kings of our Heaven-Earth Sect have been mobilized, and the vassal powers are also gathering their strength,” Jiang Yinlan said as she gazed at the vast map.

Such a grand mobilization clearly was not concealed from the powers in the Domain of Chaos. Yet with the Heaven-Earth Sect’s might, there was no need for secrecy. A direct advance with overwhelming force was more than enough to cow them.

”What about our Silver Mist Palace’s attack route?” Mu Honglian asked from the side.

Jiang Yinlan’s narrow, beautiful eyes narrowed slightly. Her slender jade finger traced across the map toward the northeast, finally stopping on a sinister, inky-black light spot.

Beside that point were three chilling black characters.

Ten Thousand Demons Gate.

”Ten Thousand Demons Gate?” Mu Honglian and the others around her cried out in surprise. Huo Yuan then spoke up with some caution.

”Palace Master, the Ten Thousand Demons Gate has quite the reputation in the Domain of Chaos. Its Gate Master, Old Demon Geng, has long since reached Fifth-Grade Sovereign. Making them our target—might that be unwise?”

In most wars of conquest, the initial objective was usually plunder, and plunder naturally started with the easiest targets.

Clearly, Ten Thousand Demons Gate was not among the easiest.

”Only with risk can there be reward,” Jiang Yinlan replied with a light smile. ”In recent years, Ten Thousand Demons Gate has acted with extreme arrogance, invading the Heaven-Earth Sect’s territory more than once and seizing who knows how much Sovereign Spirit Liquid.

”This time, we’ll take back everything they stole.”

”As for Old Demon Geng, you don’t need to concern yourselves. I will handle him personally.”

Under Lin Langtian’s leadership, the Silver Mist Palace was on the rise, like a new star ascending into the heavens. Still, despite overturning its former decline, the palace had one fatal weakness: shallow foundations and a serious lack of resources.

If they could annihilate Ten Thousand Demons Gate, the palace might not become bloated overnight, but it would certainly strengthen the Silver Mist Guards tremendously.

Huo Yuan and the others exchanged glances. Seeing the firm resolve in Jiang Yinlan’s expression, they could only answer respectfully.

After all, their Palace Master was the Grand Elder’s personal disciple and possessed no small strength. Coupled with the Silver Mist Palace’s forces, their odds against Ten Thousand Demons Gate were far from low.

”Go make your preparations. Tomorrow, Silver Mist Palace officially sets out!”

”Yes!”

Huo Yuan and the others responded in unison, then withdrew. Lin Langtian cupped his fist to Jiang Yinlan, then rose and took his leave as well.

…

At dawn the next day, the boiling battle intent that had seethed for days over Heaven-Earth Sky finally reached its critical point and erupted.

The entire sky swarmed with dense human figures flying past like dark clouds, streaming toward the various teleportation arrays scattered throughout the territory.

War had clearly begun.

The Nine Kings all moved at once. For them, such a conquest was the best opportunity to plunder resources and expand their own forces. The Sect Master had promised that none of the spoils needed to be turned in, which only made their eyes burn redder with greed.

At the same time, before the main hall of Silver Mist Palace, Jiang Yinlan stood clad in silver battle armor. Her long hair was casually tied up, her heroic bearing unmatched, while her long jade-like legs displayed a breathtaking grace.

Her beautiful eyes swept majestically over the Silver Mist Guards below, who were arrayed like a tide of silver. Without wasting words, she simply raised her hand and then swung it down.

”Silver Mist Guards, advance!”

”Yes!”

A thunderous shout boomed in unison.

Jiang Yinlan, Lin Langtian, Mu Honglian and the others burst into the air first, turning into streaks of light that shot across the heavens.

Behind them, a vast silver radiance surged forth, accompanied by overwhelming battle intent.

Heaven-Earth Sect, northeastern frontier—Liaoyang City.

This city lay on the border of the sect’s domain.

When Lin Langtian led the Silver Mist Guards through the teleportation array to emerge above Liaoyang City, he immediately saw the grim scene below.

Smoke rose in all directions throughout the city.

Figures flickered through the sky from time to time. Compared to the bustling cities in the heartlands of the Heaven-Earth Sect, the chaotic landscape here was worlds apart.

The city’s defenders quickly noticed the arrival of the Silver Mist Guards. A streak of light shot up from within the city and coalesced into a human figure.

”Subordinate, Liaoyang City Lord Li Liang, greets Silver Mist King!”

The newcomer was a middle-aged man, who now bowed deeply to Jiang Yinlan.

Jiang Yinlan nodded faintly. ”How goes the situation in this region?”

”Previously, forces from the Domain of Chaos kept probing and assaulting the border,” Li Liang reported respectfully. ”But ever since the Sect Master issued the decree of conquest, the Domain of Chaos has largely pulled back.

”At present, our people are counterattacking. Both sides have forces clashing repeatedly across tens of thousands of miles.”

”However, several thousand miles to the northeast lies the territory of Ten Thousand Demons Gate, so our forces have not dared pursue too deeply.”

With its strength, Ten Thousand Demons Gate could match the forces commanded by any one of the Nine Kings. Without the presence of a King, Heaven-Earth Sect’s vassal powers naturally did not dare provoke it.

”Send down orders: all our forces in this region are to converge on Ten Thousand Demons Gate.” Jiang Yinlan’s voice was calm.

Li Liang’s expression changed slightly. ”Silver Mist King intends to attack Ten Thousand Demons Gate? Old Demon Geng is not easy to deal with.”

”Go. I will handle Old Demon Geng,” Jiang Yinlan replied with a flick of her jade hand, brooking no argument.

”Yes!”

Li Liang dared not say more. He cupped his fists, then dropped from the sky and sped into the City Lord’s Manor, where he used special communication channels to spread the order.

”Let’s go.”

Decisive and ruthless, Jiang Yinlan wasted no time. She turned and shot toward the northeast, and the Silver Mist Guards surged forth behind her, killing intent billowing.

…

Ten Thousand Demons Plain.

This was the junction between the Heaven-Earth Sect and the northeastern stretch of the Domain of Chaos. With the two titans now at war, the vast plain had been completely engulfed in flames of battle.

Troops from both sides clashed everywhere, engaging in relentless assaults, ambushes, and extermination campaigns. The intense fighting flooded the land with violent spiritual fluctuations.

Although Jiang Yinlan had marked Ten Thousand Demons Gate as her target from the start, she was far too shrewd to charge straight in. As she gradually penetrated deeper into the plain, she deliberately slowed the advance.

Meanwhile, Lin Langtian led the Silver Mist Guards independently through the region. With his strength, and the support of the Silver Mist Guards, their march took on a nearly unstoppable momentum.

Wherever the Silver Mist Guards passed, the forces of the Domain of Chaos that had been stubbornly resisting crumbled almost without exception.

Under Lin Langtian’s command, in a single day the Silver Mist Guards swept through dozens of cities, earning an illustrious reputation.

By the time the Silver Mist Guards set out toward Ten Thousand Demons Gate on the second day, more than a dozen other forces had already converged from different directions, forming a loose encirclement around Ten Thousand Demons Gate.

Under this fearsome tightening net, Lin Langtian led the Silver Mist Guards to finally step into the territory of Ten Thousand Demons Gate.

…

Ahead loomed a towering black mountain, like a giant standing between heaven and earth. Its inky slopes radiated a chilling, sinister aura.

Lin Langtian stood at the head of the Silver Mist Guards, eyes narrowed slightly as he gazed upon the mountain.

This was the headquarters of Ten Thousand Demons Gate.

Jiang Yinlan lifted her beautiful eyes. Her cold, clear voice rang out across the heavens and earth. ”You’ve already hidden for this long. Staying in your hole any further must be quite dull, no?”

”Jie jie, such a grand visit from Silver Mist King; this old man truly failed to welcome you from afar.”

Her words had barely fallen when a hoarse, cold voice suddenly resounded across the land, sending a chill through the hearts of many.

A streak of dazzling black light burst from Ten Thousand Demons Mountain. As the glow faded, countless figures appeared in the air.

Powerful auras erupted without restraint.

Even heaven and earth seemed to pale.

In that crowd, more than half of the figures’ spiritual power did not mesh with Ten Thousand Demons Gate’s aura at all.

Clearly, not all of them belonged to the gate—Ten Thousand Demons Gate had drawn in many outside helpers.

Lin Langtian was not surprised. His gaze turned toward the very center of the opposing ranks.

There stood a frail, hunched old man with sparse hair, appearing every bit the decrepit elder. Yet in his black eyes flickered a faint, sinister gleam that made it obvious he was not to be provoked.

This was most likely Old Demon Geng, Gate Master of Ten Thousand Demons Gate.

Among the assembled Heaven-Earth Sect forces, a ripple passed through the ranks when they recognized the gaunt, eerie figure.

Old Demon Geng’s name carried considerable weight, even surpassing Jiang Yinlan’s in some circles. After all, as a junior, she had not yet accumulated many legendary war exploits.

”I’ve long heard that Silver Mist King is stunningly beautiful. Seeing you today, you truly live up to your reputation,” Old Demon Geng rasped, his gloomy gaze fixed on Jiang Yinlan. ”But I’m curious—why have you set your sights on my Ten Thousand Demons Gate? Do you take this old man for an easy target?”

As he spoke, thick, black demonic mist surged from his body, a terrifying pressure pouring out that made him seem wreathed in shadow, too ominous to look at directly.

Clearly, he was trying to establish his dominance.

Jiang Yinlan merely smiled faintly. Silver longsword in hand, she stepped forward.

With each step she took, a clear sword hum rang out, and a sharp, unstoppable sword aura rose into the sky. High above, it faintly wove itself into a vast net of sword light.

That piercing sword intent slashed straight through Old Demon Geng’s oppressive might, cutting it to pieces.

”Grand Perfection Divine Art?”

Countless onlookers stared at Jiang Yinlan, their expressions shifting.

Many knew she was the Grand Elder’s personal disciple, yet few realized she had already cultivated a Grand Perfection Divine Art.

Feeling her sword intent, Old Demon Geng’s pupils contracted slightly, and his expression finally turned grave.

Although Jiang Yinlan was only at early Fifth-Grade Sovereign, with a Grand Perfection Divine Art, even someone like him at late Fifth-Grade would find her a headache to handle.

”Silver Mist King, do you truly intend to fight my Ten Thousand Demons Gate to the bitter end?” Old Demon Geng croaked. ”You should understand that such a clash will do little good for any of you.

”With the current chaos, there are many targets more suitable than us.”

”Enough nonsense. If you don’t wish to fight, then surrender immediately,” Jiang Yinlan replied calmly.

”What arrogance!”

Old Demon Geng’s face darkened. His gaze slid past her to the man standing behind—Lin Langtian.

”I’ve also heard about your Silver Mist Palace causing quite a stir in the Heaven-Earth Sect lately,” he sneered. ”Are you really this confident because of that new commander of yours?”

”Whether that’s the case or not, your gate will find out soon enough,” Jiang Yinlan said with a small, confident smile as she noticed him bring up Lin Langtian.

Seeing such confidence from her only made Old Demon Geng’s expression grow gloomier.

From their brief exchange, his sharp instincts told him that Jiang Yinlan was no sheltered junior propped up by a powerful master, but a genuine genius with a proud and unyielding heart.

And for someone like her to submit so quickly to Silver Mist Palace’s new commander meant that Lin Langtian was anything but ordinary.

With a cold snort, Old Demon Geng flicked his hand.

Boom!

Behind him, the seething demonic light suddenly roared, and a deep, bestial growl echoed out. The black glow gradually dispersed.

A troop clad in dull, black-gray armor silently appeared behind Old Demon Geng.

As they emerged, an ominous aura spread out. Beneath their armor, it was as if countless cold, vicious eyes were staring out.

”That is Ten Thousand Demons Gate’s Ten Thousand Demons Legion, a troop with quite the reputation,” Mu Honglian said behind Lin Langtian, her voice tense.

Lin Langtian nodded slightly. Thanks to prior intelligence, he knew that this Ten Thousand Demons Legion’s combat strength was likely not inferior to the Silver Mist Guards.

Just then, his eyes narrowed.

From the very front of the legion, a figure stepped forward slowly.

The newcomer wore a dark gray robe, his face covered in ink-black demonic markings like tattoos, exuding a chilling air.

”You must be Lin Langtian, the new commander of Silver Mist Palace,” the man said with a strange smile. ”I am Geng Yan, Vice Gate Master of Ten Thousand Demons Gate, and commander of the Ten Thousand Demons Legion.”

The black patterns on his face glimmered as he looked at Lin Langtian, greeting him politely at first. Then his smile suddenly twisted into something sinister.

”Tell me, Commander Lin—are you ready to die?”
