Wu dong Qian Kun: I, Lin Langtian, Refuse to be a Supporting Character

Seeing the stern-faced elder suddenly appear, Lin Shu and Luo Gu from the Myriad Beast Sect couldn’t help but shiver slightly. They sensed a deep and powerful energy emanating from him, one that demanded caution.

”Who are you, and do you intend to interfere with matters of the Myriad Beast Sect?” Lin Shu asked loudly, invoking the name of his sect. The Myriad Beast Sect held a formidable reputation across the continent, often securing respect from strong figures of various regions. But it seemed his tactic failed this time. The elder’s lips curled into a smirk of disdain.

”So, you’re from the Myriad Beast Sect? Tell me, how is that old ghost of Eagle Mountain doing these days?” the elder asked, his voice dripping with indifference.

”What? You know our sect’s Supreme Elder?” Lin Shu and Luo Gu’s faces froze in shock. The Eagle Mountain Elder held a revered position in the sect, honored even by the current sect master. That this stranger was familiar with such an influential figure—could he be one of the ancient masters himself?

Exchanging a wary glance with Luo Gu, Lin Shu took a step forward and cupped his hands. ”The Supreme Elder is well, sir. If you don’t mind me asking, do you know him personally?”

The elder sighed, his voice laced with a sense of reminiscence. ”It seems that after so many years, few remember my name. Well, I’m still who I was—Du Guqi.”

”Du Guqi…?” Lin Shu and Luo Gu froze as they tried to place the name, their brows furrowing in thought. Suddenly, Luo Gu’s pupils dilated in shock as he recalled something, his voice trembling.

”It’s… it’s you… Poison Sovereign Du Guqi—one of the top ten powerhouses of the Western Profound Region!”

Luo Gu’s voice rang with awe and horror, his breath faltering as he stared at Du Guqi in stunned disbelief. Lin Shu, too, seemed to realize the gravity of the situation, his face pale as he muttered, ”Poison Sovereign Du Guqi? Impossible…”

The Western Profound Region spanned a vast territory teeming with elite warriors, yet the list of its top ten powerhouses contained only a handful of names. Not even the Myriad Beast Sect had managed to produce someone who ranked among these ten. Du Guqi, the Poison Sovereign, had once reigned with a fierce and brutal reputation, one of the top contenders of his time. His cruel techniques and terrifying strength made him legendary.

The two elders found themselves reeling at the realization that this was the man standing before them. Even their Supreme Elder, if he were present, might have had to step back before Du Guqi.

”Mighty Poison Sovereign, please forgive us for our ignorance,” Lin Shu and Luo Gu stammered, sweat gathering on their brows as they quickly bowed their heads in apology. They couldn’t fathom why a once-feared powerhouse like Du Guqi would be in such an unremarkable place, but one thing was certain—this elder was beyond their ability to contend with.

Meanwhile, Lin Langtian and Jinwu stepped forward respectfully, smiling as they greeted the elder. ”Elder Du Gu, we’re grateful you could come.”

The elder’s expression softened as he glanced at Lin Langtian, a slight smile crossing his face. ”How could I not answer a friend’s call? I am indebted to you, young man, and couldn’t break my word.”

To Du Guqi, who had long suffered under the curse of demonic poison, Lin Langtian’s assistance in purging his body of the poison was practically a life-saving act. Although Du Guqi had secluded himself here in the Blood Horn Domain, he was far from unaware of the outside world. News of Lin Langtian’s rise, his victory over Yuan Cang, and his new status as Yuan Gate’s most gifted disciple had spread widely across the Eastern Profound Region, and even Du Guqi had heard of his feats.

Recalling their first meeting, Du Guqi found it remarkable that in just six months, Lin Langtian had gone from an ordinary disciple to the most renowned young powerhouse in the Eastern Profound Region. It was enough to make even a seasoned figure like Du Guqi pause in admiration. This time, Du Guqi regarded Lin Langtian more as a respected equal than a mere junior.

Lin Langtian, too, could sense the elder’s newfound respect and offered him a warm smile. Fame was indeed an invisible currency that opened doors; his growing reputation meant that he could now stand on equal footing even with revered elders like Du Guqi.

In fact, Lin Langtian had invited Du Guqi here precisely to ensure the success of this expedition. Poison Sovereign Du Guqi had once been ranked among the top ten powerhouses of the Western Profound Region; even if his strength had yet to recover to its peak, his experience and prowess far exceeded anything Lin Langtian could currently achieve. Without his intervention, Lin Langtian and Jinwu would have had little hope of matching the two Life Profound Realm elders from the Myriad Beast Sect.

”Elder Du, let me introduce you to my close brother, Jinwu.” Lin Langtian gestured toward Jinwu.

”Oh… it seems your friend here is quite extraordinary.” Du Guqi’s gaze sharpened as he studied Jinwu, his eyes flashing with a glimmer of curiosity and recognition. He was beginning to realize that Lin Langtian was no ordinary talent—his circle of allies, too, was full of hidden powerhouses.

Lin Langtian merely nodded with a smile, unsurprised that Du Guqi had discerned Jinwu’s unique qualities. The Nine Fiends Golden Crow Clan held an esteemed status in the beast hierarchy, equal to that of the Dragon Clan.

From the corner of his eye, Lin Shu noticed Du Guqi’s casual familiarity with Lin Langtian and found it hard to believe. Gathering his courage, he carefully inquired, ”Poison Sovereign, might you have joined Yuan Gate?”

Du Guqi’s face darkened instantly, his voice laced with disdain. ”Those three hypocrites from Yuan Gate? Do you take me for the sort to ally with the likes of them?”

Seeing the elder’s reaction, Lin Shu swallowed hard, quickly bowing in apology. ”Please, forgive my mistake…”

Trading glances with Luo Gu, the two realized that the time had come to withdraw. They dared not linger here any longer. Bowing deeply, Lin Shu addressed Du Guqi. ”This has clearly been a misunderstanding, Poison Sovereign. Since you and Young Master Lin Langtian are acquainted, we’ll take our leave now.”

With that, the two elders turned and swiftly began to retreat.

”Too late to run now!” Du Guqi’s cold, piercing gaze followed Lin Shu and Luo Gu as they tried to retreat. With his past as the Poison Sovereign, he had made many enemies, so revealing his presence here could attract those who wished him dead. His current strength was far from what it used to be, so eliminating Lin Shu and Luo Gu would ensure his hiding place remained unknown.

With that thought, Du Guqi’s hands moved, releasing a massive cloud of eerie, green poison into the air. In an instant, the entire Tiger Mountain was engulfed in a thick fog of poison, so dense that it blocked out the sunlight, casting a menacing and deadly shadow over the mountain. The beasts of the forest shrank away in terror, their bodies trembling as the poisonous mist filled the air.

”Damn it! He’s trying to silence us!” Luo Gu exclaimed, realizing the gravity of the situation. The legend of Du Guqi was no myth; the Poison Sovereign was a force unlike any they’d encountered.

”Wait! This Du Guqi seems only to have Life Profound Realm power. I see—he must have suffered some catastrophic setback, which explains why he’s been hiding here all these years,” Lin Shu murmured, a sinister smile spreading across his face. ”Even if he was once the infamous Poison Sovereign, he’s weakened now. If we run without a fight, he’ll surely hunt us down.”

”Yes,” agreed Luo Gu. ”If we fight back and make enough noise, it might attract others. Du Guqi, as infamous as he is, surely wouldn’t want to face his old enemies.”

With newfound resolve, Lin Shu and Luo Gu nodded to each other, their expressions hardening. They unleashed their combined energy, sending two powerful torrents of force—a hundred feet wide each—surging through the air toward Du Guqi.

”Feeble resistance!” Du Guqi sneered from above. Once among the ten greatest powerhouses of the Western Profound Region, he still held strength beyond what these two could imagine. Extending his hand, he summoned the poison fog, forming it into a massive, sinister palm that descended like an unstoppable force.

The giant poison hand shattered their combined attack effortlessly. Lin Shu and Luo Gu watched in horror as their most powerful technique crumbled. The palm continued to descend, wilting the forest below into a barren wasteland.

In a final act of desperation, Lin Shu turned on his heel and abandoned his companion without hesitation, shooting toward the mountains in an attempt to escape.

”You… coward!” Luo Gu spat, cursing his fleeing comrade. He barely had a moment to react before Du Guqi’s hand shot forward, his voice as cold as ice.

”Sky Poison Claw!”

The enormous claw formed from toxic fog tore through the air, grabbing Luo Gu. He barely had time to scream before his body dissolved in a cloud of poisonous mist, leaving nothing but a bloody fog. From within, a faintly glowing streak emerged—Luo Gu’s soul, narrowly escaping total annihilation.

”Trying to escape?” Du Guqi’s hand moved again, trapping the soul in a toxic cloud. Despite Luo Gu’s pitiful pleas, Du Guqi’s voice remained cold. ”You clearly don’t know my nature.”

With a twist of his hand, he sealed Luo Gu’s soul, trapping it within a green, glowing rune.

”Du Guqi, Lin Shu is still fleeing!” Lin Langtian called out. His gaze shifted to the edge of the sky, where Lin Shu’s figure sped away as fast as he could.

”No problem.” Du Guqi’s expression remained unchanged as his form vanished in an instant. Far ahead, where Lin Shu thought he’d escaped, a dense fog suddenly coalesced.

”Such terrifying speed… Brother, where did you find someone like this?” Jinwu muttered in awe as he watched Du Guqi move with near-teleportation speed. His strength left no room for Lin Shu to maneuver, utterly outclassing him.

Lin Langtian smiled. ”He’s the Poison Sovereign, after all.”

Farther out, Lin Shu fought desperately, his energy bursting as he launched a final, frantic attack. The effort lasted only minutes before it was smothered. A cloud of green poison drifted back toward Lin Langtian and Jinwu, with Du Guqi’s figure emerging from within it.

”It’s done. Quite a feat, Senior Du Guqi,” Lin Langtian said with admiration.

”These are just insects. In my prime, I wouldn’t even have needed a finger to squash them,” Du Guqi replied casually, both hands extended as he revealed two green-glowing orbs, each containing the bound and struggling souls of Lin Shu and Luo Gu.
