Chapter 717: Chapter 358: Eric Steps Down (Part 2)

[You have triggered a special task: Vibrant Life.]

[Task: Vibrant Life.

Attribute: Special Task.

Task Description: Once the forest with the highest life force in the world, now it has become a land of death that even the Abyss is unwilling to invade.

Please bring the Goddess of Life’s statue into that shattered Divine Kingdom and restore the vibrancy of the former Elf Holy Land.

Task Rewards: Charm Value +20, Elemental Affinity +30, all Elven affection +10.

Failure Penalty: None.

Introduction: Perhaps the former life only granted the Elf Race immunity to calamities, but it always left a seed behind, waiting for the Elves to pick it up, ignite it, and call back its former glory.]

Baiyi was not interested in the task bonuses or what seemed to be a buff for the Divine Kingdom.

Compared to the Charm Value and other bonuses, his interest in the virus was greater. Before he could use or replicate any random virus, he didn’t plan to let this ruined Elf Forest disappear.

Indeed, for him, a true opportunity was this kind of virus.

The Giant Statue was already of divine level combat power. If it evolved once more... Baiyi didn’t dare to imagine how strong it could become.

Even the Dark Side could try evolving positively for once.

As for the Light Side, forget it. This thing is a genetic mutation; if the specialty enhances the soul but at the cost of turning into a spirit body, that would be a loss.

Considering the time, if he returned to Dongwu City now and made some preparations, Chu Ao’s messenger would arrive soon.

This time Baiyi did not use the travel time to study but activated the Dark Side instead, and hurried to Dongwu City at the fastest speed.

A day and a half later.

The day was drawing to an end.

Dongwu City was as bustling as ever, but players faced many restrictions and seemed so sparse even with a base population of six billion.

The reason was simple; Dongwu City implemented a method to drive players away on a large scale without angering them.

That was, for staying in Dongwu City for over two hours, a player had to pay a gold coin as a survival fee each day.

And one gold coin is like a dozen or more dollars for players, so only a few are willing to spend money to stay.

After all, Dongwu City isn’t the only place to play games, it’s just new, not essential.

Those who stayed were mostly those who didn’t mind spending money and some familiar faces.

But the number definitely didn’t exceed a million.

A day’s survival fee wasn’t too expensive, but thirty to thirty-one gold coins a month was quite a burden for players.

Also, using teleportation arrays costs money as well. Though not as costly as the survival fee, players are stingy, especially in a game that allows conversion into real money.

There were fewer and fewer players in Dongwu City.

But it wasn’t a problem; Dongwu City didn’t really need these weak players. The Mechanical Legion could replace players and was stronger.

Moreover, city development didn’t require players; rather, other cities needed them more.

Of course, there was still a free way to come to Dongwu City, which was to receive a relevant task.

All tasks related to Dongwu City now had special markings, which only the official city authorities possessed, and official tasks rarely used these markings except for war tasks.

Baiyi looked satisfactorily at the increasingly high-quality Dongwu residents.

He was in no rush to return to the City Lord’s Mansion but descended into a place full of seriousness, yet faintly revealing vitality and joy.

This was the Warrior Noble School, with Eric as the principal.

He had expressed enough sentimentality; Baiyi could feel that if Eric continued to weaken further, then even if a god wanted Eric to gain eternal life, it would come at some cost.

Now was the best time to let him fall asleep.

Ignoring the suddenly excited and admiring gazes of the students around, Baiyi stepped into the principal’s office.

Eric, slightly startled as he brewed tea, gave Baiyi a complex look: ”I really don’t need it.”

He poured two cups of tea and pushed the one exuding a rich life force in front of Baiyi.

”I’m four hundred seventy years old.”

Eric sighed, ”I’ve seen everything I needed to see, should...”

”You mentioned that before.” Baiyi gently interrupted him, sitting across from him and taking a sip of tea.

If it were someone else, Baiyi might just knock them out and seal them, but Eric was different; he had provided so much protection in Baiyi’s weaker days.

This is a debt of kindness that must be repaid, even if he doesn’t want it.

Eric paused, somewhat resigned: ”At least I could witness divine descent and glimpse the future’s path.”

”No need; if I lose, you can’t survive. If I win, you achieve eternal life, just without consciousness for a few years sooner.”

Baiyi finished the Life Flower Tea, stood up.

Eric: ....

His mouth twitched, eyes clouded with some helplessness: ”No room for negotiation?”

Baiyi said nothing, but the surrounding Alchemy Inscriptions already floated around him, vaguely forming a circle.

”I at least should be able to say goodbye, right? I have quite a few friends.” Eric was silent for a long time, reluctantly spreading his hands.

The magic in Baiyi’s eyes faded, and the inscriptions gradually disappeared into the void.

”Where? I’ll take you.”

Eric: ....

He thought about being escorted to visit old friends like a prisoner by a junior and was reminded of transcendents about to be erased.

Closing his eyes, he rubbed his brow: ”I suddenly remembered that I can say goodbye over the internet; sit down, it won’t be a few hours.”

Baiyi obediently sat, quietly watching Eric.

He sighed again, this time without the helplessness, instead with some comfort: ”Play a game of chess with me first; it seems you haven’t played a game with me yet.”

”Do you like playing chess?”

”Didn’t like it before, but now there’s nothing to do, so I want to find something to do.”

”Sure.”

Baiyi conjured a chessboard, placed it between them, aligning the black and white pieces.

Three minutes later.

Eric: ”No, no, let me rethink.”

Baiyi: ”Alright.”

Ten minutes later.

Eric: ”No, no, let me redo a move.”

Holding the black piece, he suspiciously looked up: ”You’re not using AI to help, are you?”

”No, I have strong spiritual power, quite specialized in this.” Baiyi shrugged.

Eric hesitantly placed his piece again.

Another five minutes passed.

”Undo.”

”Not undoing anymore, haha, I won!”

Eric happily stood up, looking at the board filled with black pieces, his cloudy eyes exceptionally bright.

Buzz~

”Yes, you won. I look forward to playing another game with you in the future.”

Baiyi smiled while speaking. Those previously disappeared inscriptions abruptly attached to Eric; his aged body froze instantly, a smile still on his face as he slowly fell into slumber.

Baiyi waved his hand, and Eric vanished.

”Make arrangements, the principal retires, the vice-principal takes over.”

Zero: ”Order issued.”

Zero: ”The latest batch of transactions with the ocean, stars, and sun has been completed, the profit decreased by 30% compared to when Mr. Sabo was in charge.”

Baiyi paused slightly, ignoring it, this was expected.

Capitalists always find ways to make any trade skew towards their own interests.

As long as the drop doesn’t exceed 50%, the profits from this trade are enough to support the rapid development of the entire Dongwu City.

This also shows that Gailt is competent enough; Sabo’s kind of profit margin is not something anyone can achieve. Sabo could sell an item valued at 100,000 gold coins for about 700,000.

And the material for this item might only cost around 10,000.

The current profit at least kept Baiyi satisfied.

Without paying much attention, Baiyi sent a notice to the council about Eric’s retirement.

He walked into the laboratory.

He knew what the messenger arriving in three days would bring, and he also needed to prepare a return gift.

Some things could be stingy, but some required full assistance.

This included the latest method of creating the Sun Salutation.

This thing was difficult to shape, but mages were much more versatile than Alchemists.

Alchemists found it difficult to create time equipment, but mages could.

Moreover, for mages, the requirements weren’t that high.
