Chapter 265: Chapter 156: Got Screwed Over (Part 2)

Luck’s expression slightly changed, as if his teammates... were no more?

He continued to take a bottle of Hidden Potion for himself, his presence becoming even less noticeable, and used his Spiritual Power to sense the earth, constantly searching.

When half an hour later, Luck found the teammate from his memories in a cave, he immediately fell into silence.

In front of him was a middle-aged man, but he was no longer a lively middle-aged man; instead, he was a twisted entity.

Luck silently flipped through his clothes, almost all of his belongings had been looted, leaving nothing for him.

Luck extended a hand to touch the pair of knees placed beside his occiput, the cold and stiff sensation indicated he had been dead for over two hours.

And the data their team collected from the various Rule Zones was also gone, even the rules of this Night Town were taken by an unknown person.

Luck turned around and left, casually finding a tree to lean against, sitting quietly and waiting.

Caw~

As time passed, an eagle’s cry resounded, almost identical to the one Luck had made earlier.

About a minute later, Lilia appeared next to Luck.

”Captain, I asked, he said he doesn’t know, because today’s rules couldn’t be asked, but he mentioned that the Night Cultists who used to patrol the mayor’s house every day disappeared since four days ago,” Lilia said, looking around in confusion, not finding the familiar middle-aged man: ”Where’s Lak?”

Luck seemed contemplative, calmly replying: ”Dead.”

Lilia: ....

She fell silent, lowering her head, and stammered, ”Is... is it because of me?”

This was her sixth team, just like the previous ones, the team inexplicably ended up with only her.

She actually discovered that she had a bit of a jinxed aura, but the rules had taken everything from her, and she didn’t want to do nothing, so at Captain Gula’s invitation, she still joined the new Dawn Squad.

Unexpectedly, in just half a year, she encountered the first Rule Zone, and within two short days, her team had two more casualties.

”No.” Luck said calmly, ”But I need to check if you’ve been maliciously cursed or if it’s simply bad luck.”

Lilia nodded, somewhat dejected, ”Okay, Captain, go ahead.”

Luck looked at Lilia, activating the Scanning Skill on the panel, and after comparing a series of data, Luck obtained 70% of her data.

The data seemed normal, with only her Lucky Attribute reaching as high as 25 points, the highest Luck he’d ever seen, even higher than Luoning’s.

Logically, this level of Luck Value should bring good fortune to the team, completely unrelated to misfortune.

Until Luck saw a Specialty.

[Blessing of Misfortune: Anyone malicious towards you will invoke misfortune, with increasing misfortune proportional to the value of malice.]

Understanding appeared in Luck’s eyes, he decisively comforted: ”You’re not cursed; their deaths aren’t your fault.”

Luck stood up, patting Lilia’s shoulder: ”Okay, no time for regrets, we need to rally, don’t forget Rein is still waiting inside.”

Lilia lowered her head, dejectedly saying: ”Captain, maybe I should leave the team, I’m not suitable for the Dawn Squad....”

”You can...”

”Mm, that’s for the best for everyone, right...” Lilia nodded, hanging her head lower, turning to walk away in the distance: ”Captain... Mr. Gula, take care.”

Luck thought for a moment, then instructed: ”Someone might recruit you soon, just be careful when you join them.”

Lilia froze, quickly turning around to look at Luck: ”Wh... what do you mean?”

”I have a clue about who killed Lak, they’re going to invite many Dawn Squad members in the near future. As long as you stay in this area, you’ll definitely get invited. If they ask about your background, just tell them the truth.”

Luck smiled: ”Lilia, you’re not the problem; I saw your constitution. Anyone who intends harm towards you will end up doomed first.”

Lilia was stunned, her eyes filled with disbelief: ”Is... is that the case?”

”That’s right, plus no one in our team bore any malice towards you, their deaths were due to others. I’ll avenge them; would you like to help me, Miss Lilia?” Luck asked with a smile.

-----------------

Shaba Kingdom, capital city.

Luck observed the street activities resembling those in Night Town, a trace of delight appearing in his eyes.

This world does not only have rules only in Rule Zones; rather, rules exist everywhere, yet outside Rule Zones, the rules inflict minor punishments and impose minimal restrictions on Transcendents, so much so that even Golden Level entities can disregard some rules.

This seems to be because Lady of the Night’s powers are too constrained by Xia, preventing a complete influence over this world.

And this Shaba Kingdom is the closest country to Night Town, or rather, Night Town is within this kingdom.

Of course, within this sort of Rule Zone, kingdoms typically tend not to intervene.

Not anyone can disregard the rules to explore a Rule Zone.

Moreover, within Rule Zones the rules can’t be overcome just by numbers.

Generally, the minimum level for Dawn Squad members is Silver Level, with Golden Level being quite common. This world, originating from Dimensional Turbulence, is densely suffused with Demonic Qi.

Level 50 isn’t difficult; the only somewhat challenging aspect is the comprehension of the rules.

People in this world are bound by rules from birth, reaching Golden Level is a trivial challenge for them.

Luck glanced around and headed directly toward the Royal Palace.

His purpose here is simple: he needs soldiers, materials, workers, and some lives.

The one who killed Lak was also Charles, who probably noticed Pu Sheng was cautiously gaining control over the Night Cultists. Although it’s uncertain how he managed it, he indeed did.

So Charles and he arrived at the same conclusion.

There are many Dawn Squads in this world, but only one Night Town, and it’s undetectable by outsiders. Who could even imagine this ordinary Night Town is the core of the world?

So Charles killed Lak and took the exclusive communication equipment and some data of the Dawn Squad.

Gathering enough Dawn Squad members means these existences that disregard the rules can become powerful soldiers capable of countering the rules in this world.

Should these soldiers become numerous, Pu Sheng’s advantage would instantly vanish.

So Luck gave Charles a Lilia and had her join Charles’s squad when there were many members of the Dawn Squad.

With her arrival, Charles’s reactions would undoubtedly remain concealed towards her.

But that doesn’t matter; Lilia’s passive just requires malice. ℴ

And once Charles meets his demise, their sides will reach a relatively balanced state.

As for why Luck came to the Royal Capital, his current combat power isn’t weak, but he doesn’t want to expose himself yet, at least not before they fully engage.

An invisible sword is always the sharpest, and when they finally see the sword, its power will already be beyond their ability to resist.

Arriving at the kingdom’s entrance, a group of soldiers quickly focused their gaze, Celestial Demon Flash!

Luck’s figure vanished, reappearing beyond the thick walls.

Luck closed his eyes to sense, walking towards the King’s sleeping chamber. As he neared, some Silver Level guards froze momentarily, then blinked blankly at their surroundings before proceeding with their patrol.

”Hmm, ah.....”

A sound akin to a cat’s meow echoed, Luck leaned against the door waiting quietly, and about three minutes later, the sounds ceased.

Luck directly pushed open the door and entered.

”Ahhh.....”

”Audacious one, how dare you barge into the King’s sleeping chamber? Guards!”

Malicious Intimidation.

[Your Charm Value briefly drops to -17 points.]

The King’s furious expression froze, his eyes clearing, while the woman hidden under the blanket stopped screaming, showing half her head, trembling.

The King’s thoughts faltered and eventually calmed his fury, ”What brings this young man to me?”
