Ms. Diviner: The Prodigal Daughter's Return

Chapter 1697: Chapter 1697: Digging a Pit for Han Yan

”Are the people of Mu Family Village really so bold, they dared to attack Zihe?” A slightly plump old priest asked in surprise. His name was Wen Rongsong, the Left Priest of Feng City Temple, second only to the Master Priest in status.

”Such a disgraceful affair, why would I make up stories? It’s also Zihe’s own fault for being too careless, completely unaware that the opposition would be so bold, inadvertently falling victim to their martial arts and trickery, and got seriously injured.” Another old priest sighed, adding with a touch of anger. He was Kang Qingyuan, the Kang Family Head.

”Such audacity, such audacity! Mere commoners, daring to harm our Temple Priest. Priest Kang, will you really let them get away with this?” Wen Rongsong heavily slapped the table as he spoke.

Both being priests of Feng City Temple, they naturally shared the same enemies, besides, even if Zihe’s status was lower, he was still a priest of Feng City Temple. This wasn’t just a slap in the face for Feng City Temple, but also for him.

As for Zihe being hurt by the commoners he mentioned, he felt it wasn’t strange. After all, Zihe was merely a First-level Divine Priest, and if the other party had cultivated martial arts well and used trickery, it wasn’t impossible to injure him.

”Of course, I don’t wish to let them off so easily, but don’t forget, Lord Left Priest, there is Mu Yi’an, the Guardian Priest of Mu Family Village, so I’m not in a position to act.” Kang Qingyuan pretended to look helpless as he spoke.

”Mu Yi’an... who is that?” Wen Rongsong repeated the name but had no impression, asking with confusion.

”Seems to be that Guardian Priest who has lived for thousands of years yet remains only a Ninth Rank Divine Priest,” another old priest thought carefully before speaking.

His name was Liang Gubai, the Right Priest of Feng City Temple, with Wen Rongsong on the left and himself on the right, both being like the left and right arms of the Master Priest. Usually, temple affairs were mostly handled by the two of them, and the Master Priest was rarely seen, even in the current priest assessment.

He and Wen Rongsong became priests over a hundred years ago at the same time, and later became the Dual Priests, with names that complemented each other, hence their close daily friendship.

”Ah, it’s him, that damn useless relic, now I remember.” Wen Rongsong finally recalled whom Kang Qingyuan was referring to.

”Mu Yi’an never made much progress in strength, he’s old and frail now, probably not as good as he once was, but after living such a long time, I can’t easily turn against him, so I have to temporarily endure this enmity.” Kang Qingyuan sighed as he spoke.

Wen Rongsong and Liang Gubai both fell silent simultaneously. Though both Divine Continent and Holy Court Continent uphold the timeless rule of the strong being revered, there are still their own moral etiquette, and priests have their own honor and dignity too. Even without considering Mu Yi’an’s age, causing trouble for an old priest who’s mostly buried would be laughable if word got out.

”Never mind, let’s endure for a few days, anyway that old man lived so long, didn’t progress much in strength, likely won’t live much longer, once he’s gone, we’ll deal with those commoners slowly.” Liang Gubai said.

”Though the old codger might not live much longer, I’ve heard Mu Family has a promising descendant, if she becomes a priest, this grievance might go unresolved.” Kang Qingyuan shook his head, looking dejected as he spoke.

”Not likely, such commoner clans are lucky if they produce a priest every few thousand years, how could they produce another?” Wen Rongsong said dismissively.

”I heard it from Zihe too, supposed to be the one who injured him, a young girl, named Mu Han Yan.” Kang Qingyuan said.

”Hahaha, a young girl able to injure Zihe with martial arts, possessing priestly qualifications, how’s that possible?” Wen Rongsong laughed.

Female priests on Divine Continent are few, and most have average qualifications and strength. If any woman truly could become a priest, all resources would be focused on enhancing Divine Sense, not wasting energy on martial arts, which is pursuing the less important.

Perhaps Mu Family spread rumors after injuring Kang Zihe, fearing Kang Family retaliation or temple pursuit, releasing this hearsay. Given Mu Yi’an’s old age, they couldn’t be sure if Kang Family or the temple would honor him, so it’s necessary to embellish themselves and seek reliance. Kang Qingyuan is wise but sometimes foolish, even trusting such empty tales.

”I can’t believe it either, but according to Zihe, Mu Yi’an personally said he will bring her to Feng City Temple for assessment, I figure he’s lived so long, probably wouldn’t speak frivolously.” Kang Qingyuan said.

”Let it go, don’t overthink it, if they truly want to come, just send them back, even if that Mu descendant has some qualifications, any martial arts cultivation would be wasted. They’re likely betting on luck with the temple’s current broad search for priests.” Wen Rongsong snorted indifferently.

”Priest assessments aren’t something you come and go from easily, otherwise those young who failed before wouldn’t have ended up like that.” Liang Gusong suddenly said.

Kang Qingyuan and Wen Rongsong looked at him simultaneously. Having worked together at the temple so long, they certainly knew what Liang Gusong meant.

Clearly, Liang Gusong didn’t want to let Mu Han Yan leave Tianfeng City unscathed, using this assessment for Kang Zihe’s revenge.

Kang Qingyuan looked gratefully at Liang Gusong, which was precisely the result he hoped for but could not express openly.

Wen Rongsong had little to add, Mu Han Yan injuring Kang Zihe struck not just the temple’s face, but also all the priests, making her pay is reasonable, why would he care about a commoner’s life or death.

Not far away, a young priest sighed secretly.

On Divine Continent, the status gap between priests and ordinary citizens is vast. A drifting family like Mu, who barely found a place to settle, naturally holds even lower status. Hence, Kang Qingyuan and the others did not avoid speaking in front of him, and he too understood Liang Gusong’s last intentions.

”Alas, wonder if that Mu Han Yan’s brain is soaked, daring to fight priests, going to face real disaster now.” The young priest thought with full pity.

But now, burdened and overwhelmed, his pity surpassed any concern for someone else’s life.

...

”Ninth-tier Priest, Mu Family Village Mu clan Guardian Priest Mu Yi’an, bring along clan juniors Mu Han Yan, Ling Baobao to participate in priest assessment.” From outside, came an aged voice.
