Ms. Diviner: The Prodigal Daughter's Return

Chapter 1162: Chapter 1162: Once Again Drawing Curious Glances

It’s actually them who are conducting the assessment. This swordsmanship test might not be so easy.

Especially Duan Heshan, in her past life, Mu Hanyan had long heard of his fame. If she were to face him, she wouldn’t be very confident, let alone Huayue and others.

However, could it be that my luck is not that bad? Mu Hanyan felt that since she entered Long Yan Academy, she had been challenged everywhere, and her luck had been bad enough already, so theoretically it should turn around.

Sadly, many things in this world go against one’s wishes.

The War Dragon Branch, the spacious martial arts arena was crowded with new and old disciples, all faces were filled with excitement. Today was the day of the Long Yan Academy’s swordsmanship examination.

Although Long Yan Academy, in order to cultivate true strong warriors, used various methods to encourage or even force disciples to practice all kinds of strange techniques, to help them comprehend the Heaven and Earth rules, and further their future progress.

But after all, in the Holy Court Continent, swordsmanship is supreme, and for the vast majority of young swordsmen, the Sword Saint realm is their lifelong pursuit. Higher realms, they wouldn’t even dare imagine, so this swordsmanship test is what they value the most and what ignites their youth’s hot blood.

When Mu Hanyan’s group walked into the martial arts arena, it inevitably attracted curious glances once again.

”Have you heard? Yesterday, Master Tian from the Array Dao Hall was also defeated at the hands of Mu Hanyan.” Someone said mysteriously.

”Nonsense, do you still need to say that? Even a deaf person might have already heard it.” Seeing his fake mysterious look, someone else said disdainfully.

”Only half a month into the academy, she has already taken down two instructors, and has yet to be caught for any wrongdoings, remaining untouched. Truly deserving of being the Capital’s top playboy, oh wait, now, she is our Long Yan’s top playboy.”

”I wonder what kind of stir Mu Hanyan will cause in today’s swordsmanship test?” Someone said expectantly. Young people are hot-blooded, and of course, they tend to wish for chaos.

”Want to see excitement? Then you might be disappointed, this time the test is conducted by Lord Long’s twelve disciples. Leading them is Duan Heshan, who is peerless with a sword. Mu Hanyan will be lucky to pass the test. If she encounters Duan Tianya, she will most likely be defeated badly.” Someone said sourly.

Although the title of Long Yan’s top playboy isn’t flattering, many are still envious and spiteful of Mu Hanyan’s many astonishing acts and her heaven-defying talent.

Others may boast and be pretentious as playboys, but they do indeed have the right to be, and no one can deny it. Yet, it doesn’t stop them from being mildly bitter.

As soon as Mu Hanyan arrived, whispers filled the surroundings, making the previously solemn martial arts arena bustling.

”Silence.” Long Congyuan walked onto the competition platform and shouted sternly.

Immediately, the area grew silent.

”The hour is late, today’s examination begins now.” Long Congyuan spoke directly, announcing the start of the examination without any unnecessary words, not even bothering to elaborate on the rules.

In fact, the swordsmanship test at Long Yan Academy is quite simple. It involves the instructor or disciple, responsible for the assessment, initiating a move, and the disciples being tested responding to it. It’s similar to ordinary swordsmanship matches, except no need to determine a winner.

Usually, depending on the strength of the instructor or disciple responsible, the number of moves is prescribed. As long as the examinee can endure, passing the test is secured. If performances are extraordinary, sometimes even if they don’t endure, they can still be deemed as passing.

Admittedly, this assessment method itself has many deficiencies, providing plenty of opportunity for bias. However, since this is Long Yan Academy, the status of the swordsmanship test in every disciple’s eyes is unparalleled compared to other tests. In essence, each swordsmanship test is both a test of the dignity of swordsmanship and the honor of Long Yan Academy.

Thus, from ancient times to now, no sword test at Long Yan Academy has any dared to engage in bias, and the results are recognized by every instructor and disciple.

Some might exploit the Heart Enlightenment Sword type of test, but this seemingly flawed assessment proves to be fairer and more just.

”First match, Zheng Zhiqing.” A judge instructor stepped onto the platform and announced after drawing lots.

This time, the main examiner was a disciple of Long Congyuan from War Dragon Academy, while the judges were instructors from Tenglong Academy, also ensuring the fairness and impartiality of the test.

”Main examiner, Zeng Jianping.” Another judge instructor drew lots from the main examiner’s list.

Soon, a young man around twenty-six or seven years old ascended the platform energetically, facing a sixteen or seventeen-year-old young man who also stepped onto the platform with a mix of respect and nervousness.

”Junior Brother Zheng, as long as you withstand my ten moves, you pass the test.” Zeng Jianping said briefly.

”Thank you, Senior Brother Zeng.” Zheng Zhiqing bowed in salute.

”Please!” Zeng Jianping made a show with his longsword, slashing towards Zheng Zhiqing.

This move didn’t contain much change, nor could it be called particularly exquisite, but it was clean, neat, and formidable, vaguely possessing a sense of natural completeness.

Zheng Zhiqing was evidently experienced in combat, his longsword swinging with more than a dozen changes. Under the pressure of the opponent’s sword force, these changes appeared ornate but lacked fighting spirit.

”Boom,” a dull sound resonated as Zheng Zhiqing was struck off the platform.

Fortunately, Zeng Jianping’s sword was extremely restrained, even though Zheng Zhiqing was quickly defeated, he was not injured. He immediately stood after landing, his face flushed with shame, sheepishly squeezing back into the crowd.

”Such strong prowess!” Although Zheng Zhiqing couldn’t withstand a single move and was declared defeated, no one mocked him. Everyone was secretly amazed.

Zeng Jianping, although not the strongest among Long Congyuan’s twelve disciples, was already terrifying enough just being mid-ranked. Those stronger than him must be even more formidable.

Mu Hanyan was somewhat surprised too. Zheng Zhiqing’s cultivation was at the Realm of Great Swordsmen, and judging from his previous performance, his combat experiences were very rich. Among peers, he would rarely meet opponents. Yet, he couldn’t withstand a single move from Zeng Jianping, who was still only mid-ranked among Long Congyuan’s twelve disciples. How incredibly strong must Duan Heshan be?

This swordsmanship test certainly isn’t easy.

(Like a salted fish during the day, trying to turn over. If it turns over, you know what it means, it’s time for explosive updates. But I’m afraid if it turns over twice, it falls back into position again. That would be tragic...)
