Ms. Diviner: The Prodigal Daughter's Return

Chapter 748: 748 Defying Fate

Carefully she infused the Qi, guiding it through the fragile meridians of the baby, and after just two small cycles, the power of Heaven and Earth within him had been completely absorbed by Mu Hanyan.

This Heaven and Earth Power was unlike anything from the Holy Court Continent, nor was it from the Divine Continent; what exactly it was, Mu Hanyan couldn’t say. She only felt it possessed a trace of ethereal essence and seemed to be somewhat beneficial for the nurturing of her mental state. However, the benefit was faint and therefore not substantial.

”It’s done,” Mu Hanyan put away her hand formation while also retracting the hand holding the baby’s. She then spoke to Zhang Chihua and his wife.

”Just like that, it’s done?” The couple looked at Mu Hanyan in astonishment.

The other onlookers were also baffled. Star Divination Masters of profound cultivation were said to not only foretell life and death and predict fortunes and disasters but also to be capable of defying the heavens to change one’s fate.

They had witnessed Star Divination Masters executing such profound secret techniques before; without exception, these acts had involved fasting for three days, bathing, burning incense, and then exhausting all their abilities. Sometimes it had only taken three to five days, other times one to two months, or even longer, and at the end, they would be so tired that their mental state and primordial energy would be severely damaged, only then could someone’s fate be defied and changed.

Mu Hanyan only performed a few dozen hand formations, and it was done? Even if her Star Divination Skill was powerful, could it really be this effective?

”It’s done. If you don’t believe me, you can ask Master Ji to do the divination again,” Mu Hanyan said with a smile.

Of course, she knew that defying fate with Star Divination wasn’t an easy task. The problem was her techniques had nothing to do with Star Divination Technique. She didn’t understand those complex and cumbersome methods of changing fate and running the risk of being pretentious, so she had chosen to simplify the process, cleanly and efficiently resolving the issue.

All eyes turned to Ji Gaoxian at once.

When Mu Hanyan said this, it was only to find someone else to prove that the child had returned to normalcy and possessed cultivation talent, not the previously determined waste material. However, to everyone else, this undoubtedly posed a challenge to Ji Gaoxian.

Master Ji, caught between a rock and a hard place, couldn’t continue to act superior based on his age and reputation after witnessing Mu Hanyan’s Star Divination Technique, and he had no choice but to perform his own hand formations, his gaze fixating on the Star Mechanism Plate before him.

Soon, several stars on the Star Mechanism Plate began to shine, emitting a faint silver light, and formed a strange pattern.

Master Ji’s eyes narrowed as he calculated with his fingers, clearly divining the outcome from the Star Chart.

Gradually, the corners of Master Ji’s mouth twitched slightly, and he gritted his teeth as his beard trembled.

The onlookers all curiously watched him, not knowing what result he had divined.

”You... who exactly are you? I bear no grudge against you, why would you smash my signboard and ruin my reputation!” Finally, Ji Gaoxian opened his eyes, and full of anger, he yelled at Mu Hanyan.

Upon hearing his roar, the crowd was first taken aback before regaining their senses. His words were a clear acknowledgment that the other party was right—the Zhang Family’s child had indeed recovered as normal, possessing a talent for cultivation, no longer the waste determined before. Otherwise, why would he be so furious?

Looking at Mu Hanyan’s youthful face, the onlookers felt both ashamed and admiring: ashamed because of their earlier mockery, and admiring, of course, for his Star Divination Skill.

It is known that Ji Gaoxian was a Star Divination Master well-known throughout Capital, even those revered seniors in the field full of praise for him. In Capital, where hidden dragons and crouching tigers abound, no one questioned his ”Yunjing God Calculation” signboard, proving his genuine talents. Yet, such a Star Diviation Master was utterly defeated before this young man, even unable to deny it. Just how powerful was his Star Divination Skill?

”Alright, hurry and take the child back home, it’s cold outside,” Mu Hanyan said, paying no attention to Ji Gaoxian’s bellowing or the crowd’s admiration, and turning on his heel to leave.

”Stop right there!” Seeing that Mu Hanyan had damaged his reputation and didn’t even glance at him, Ji Gaoxian felt an extreme level of contempt and was even angrier, trembling all over, he yelled at Mu Hanyan.

No wonder he was so enraged; the Star Divination Masters in Capital had their own circle, each with some connections to one another. Even if sometimes they competed for fame and profit, they would not easily sabotage each other’s reputations.

As soon as Mu Hanyan entered Capital, he had targeted his Divination Shop, humiliating Ji Gaoxian publicly, clearly making it impossible for him to stand in Capital.

”Do you hate me for ruining your reputation?” Mu Hanyan coldly glanced at Ji Gaoxian, seeing the resentment in his heart, and indifferently said, ”If you truly could peer into the Heavenly Secret, and live up to your name as a Divine Fortune Teller, even if I wanted to ruin your reputation, could I manage it?”

Ji Gaoxian was left speechless by Mu Hanyan’s words, his face flushing red and then turning pale, his eyes still showing defiance: Peer into the Heavenly Secret? Not to mention the Holy Court Continent or Anyun Country, just within Yunjing City itself, there were more than ten famous Star Divination Masters, who would dare to claim they could truly peer into the Heavenly Secret? Everyone knew their own weight; it was just that no one wanted to sabotage each other and cut off their own income. What right did this man have, upon entering Capital, to make things difficult for him and break the Star Divination Masters’ rules to damage his reputation?

”Are you resentful because I’m not following the rules, not troubling other Star Divination Masters, and just making things difficult for you? Do you think among the thousands of Star Divination Masters, who can really completely peer into the Heavenly Secret? Indeed, even I cannot completely peer into the Heavenly Secret,” Mu Hanyan said, breaking into a silent sweat. What peering into the Heavenly Secret? He hadn’t even touched the threshold of the Heavenly Secret and had just followed the hints given by the Star Illusion Thousand Machine, randomly making several Hand Formations. After that, he simply talked in vague and made-up terms, and finally activated the Heavenly Heart Technique.

”But if you know that your skills are not perfect, why rush to conclusions? Do you know that your single statement can determine another person’s fate for life, that an entire family can be doomed by your words?” Mu Hanyan reproached mercilessly.

This was actually the reason she had spoken up in the first place. If only Ji Gaoxian hadn’t made such absolute statements, if only he had left a glimmer of hope for that family, she wouldn’t have needed to get involved or witness what followed.

But having experienced countless disdainful looks and mocking words, Mu Hanyan knew the pain all too well. She didn’t want to see a young life, so newly born, embark on the twisted path she herself had taken. After all, not everyone could be as lucky as she was, and besides, she had been through it out of necessity; behind the cold humiliation, she still had the unwavering care of her grandparents and parents. The family before her would certainly not be so fortunate.

Ji Gaoxian’s beard quivered as Mu Hanyan’s scolding left him in a wretched state, yet he was unable to refute. His statement had indeed been a bit too emphatic. However, in his view, it wasn’t entirely his fault—if not for the results given by the several Star Divination Masters before him, he wouldn’t have easily drawn such a conclusion. To say his skills were unrefined, the previous Star Divination Masters making rash judgments were just as flawed in their art.
