Mr. CEO, You Look Strangely Familiar

”It’s exactly eight. Right on time. You must have come early. What brings you here?”

Jean Grant said sheepishly, ”I just haven’t seen you in a few days, so I missed you. What else could it be?”

He turned his head to the side. ”You missed me?”

”Of course! Oh, fine, you saw right through me. I was dropping Nicholas off at work this morning and was passing by, so I thought I’d come up and see you.”

Quentin Grant smiled. ”That’s more like it.”

”Alright then, Brother. You get back to work. I’m heading out.”

”Mm, drive safe.”

Jean Grant nodded and hurriedly left Quentin Grant’s office.

’God knows how nervous I was just now.’

’Thankfully, I saw it.’

She had come yesterday, but Quentin Grant wasn’t there all day, and no one was allowed in the office.

This morning, Secretary Lynch hadn’t wanted to let her in either, but she had wheedled and pestered her way inside.

She didn’t know that only Herman Hawthorne, Nora Ainsworth, their two children, and Ethan Ellsworth could enter Quentin Grant’s office freely. No one else, not even she, was within Quentin Grant’s circle of trust.

Quentin Grant stood before the floor-to-ceiling window, lost in thought for a moment. Then, he pulled open the door and walked to the secretary’s desk.

”When did Jean get here?”

Secretary Lynch replied, ”She’s been here for over half an hour. I tried to stop her, but Miss Grant wouldn’t listen. She even accused me of deliberately slighting her and went in anyway.”

Quentin Grant murmured to himself, ”Over half an hour?”

Then, his expression turned serious. ”This is the first time. Next time you let her in without my permission, you’ll bear the consequences.”

Secretary Lynch nodded. ”BOSS, it won’t happen again.”

He turned, re-entered his office, and pulled up the surveillance footage from his office himself.

He was a cautious man. Otherwise, how could he have taken control of the global Grant Group at such a young age?

The surveillance footage showed that his suspicions were correct.

Watching the video of Jean Grant trying different numbers on the keypad of his drawer lock, a chill ran through him.

She eventually managed to open it. In truth, his password was simple—just his birthday. But now, he would have to change it.

After closing the surveillance feed, Quentin Grant changed the password. Then, he shouted toward the door, ”Secretary Lynch, come in.”

Secretary Lynch hurried in. ”BOSS.”

He tossed the performance metrics proposal in his hand to him. ”This is what you let her in to see. Take this and have the department redo it. I’ll write the metrics myself. Also, you’re not getting a bonus this month. If there’s a next time, you’ll lose your bonus for a year. Now get out.”

Secretary Lynch’s face crumpled in dismay. He clutched the proposal and left, trembling. Once outside the office, he beat his chest and stomped his foot in utter misery. ’Is there anyone in the world more wronged than me?’

Although Quentin Grant was a bit surprised, he knew who had sent Jean Grant. It left him feeling cold. She really didn’t know who her true family was.

Her arriving thirty-some minutes early to wait for him was abnormal from the start. And after waiting so long, she left after only exchanging a few words. That really wasn’t her style.

Starting with his mother, it seemed their family ties had been weakening bit by bit.

Chloe Marshall personally cooked lunch and went to Zenith Talent Agency to bring it to Ethan Ellsworth.

She had just entered his office when she found he wasn’t there.

She placed the lunchbox on his desk. Just as she was about to pull out her phone, Ethan Ellsworth’s current assistant, Alice, walked in holding a file.

”Where’s Boss Ellsworth?”

”Come with me. I’ll take you to him.” Alice put the file on the desk, turned, and led the way out the door.

Chloe Marshall glanced at the lunchbox on the desk, then turned and followed her.

Alice led her on a winding path but ended up taking her to the restroom door.

”Boss Ellsworth is in here?”

”No, I’m the one who wanted to talk to you about Boss Ellsworth,” Alice explained.

”Sorry, I don’t have time to talk. I’ll just call him myself.” Chloe Marshall was about to take out her phone when Alice pulled her inside and locked the restroom door from the inside.

Seeing this, Chloe Marshall’s guard went up.

”What do you want?”

”Chloe Marshall, I want to ask you a question. Please answer me.”

Chloe Marshall laughed. ”Do I have to answer you? You think way too highly of yourself. Have you forgotten? This is an office building.”

”I just want to know, Chloe Marshall, you look innocent at best, but you’re not that pretty. How did you manage to first hook up with Boss Ellsworth, and then with the most powerful man in Harrowin? Look, I’m working in your old position now. I’m Boss Ellsworth’s assistant too. Why haven’t I had a single shred of romantic luck after all this time? Did you use it all up?”

Alice’s words made Chloe Marshall feel that this foreign woman in front of her was an unhinged lunatic.

”Did you just escape from a mental hospital? Is this some kind of severe psychological imbalance?”

Alice didn’t deny it. ”Yes! I do have a severe psychological imbalance! We’re both women, so what gives you the right to be with Boss Ellsworth when I’ve been trying for years and gotten nowhere?”

Chloe Marshall thought she was a complete psycho. There was no reasoning with her.

”If that’s all, I’m leaving.”

Chloe Marshall had just turned around when Alice violently grabbed her hair from behind, pulling with enough force to make her scalp feel like it was splitting open.

Normally, she was the type to avoid conflict and didn’t like to attack others. But against this kind of inexplicable, brain-dead psycho, if she didn’t teach her a lesson, then her time in the ”devil training camp” would have been a complete waste.

She spun around, ignoring the pain in her scalp, and unleashed a torrent of blows on Alice. Alice was kicked to the ground; she never expected that Chloe Marshall knew kung fu.

As a result, the consequences of her impulsive action this time were disastrous.

Chloe Marshall grabbed her hair tightly, forced her head down, opened a stall door, and shoved her head directly into the toilet bowl, forcing her to choke on the water.

”Alice, how can a person be as despicable as you? Did you think I was some pushover anyone could mess with? Today, I’m going to have some fun with you. Your face is caked in so much makeup, it’s time for a good wash.”

Alice flailed her arms, unable to speak, and struggled desperately.

But it was useless. Chloe Marshall reached out and pressed the flush button. Water gushed out—SPLASH—and submerged her face. To prevent her from drowning, Chloe would periodically pull her up by the hair to lift her face a little, only to shove it back down again, over and over.

The feeling was so awful that Alice was regretting it with every fiber of her being.

Finally, seeing that she was on the verge of passing out, Chloe Marshall let go.

Alice’s body slumped down against the toilet. She coughed repeatedly, spitting up a lot of water. Her fully made-up face was now a streaky mess, like a calico cat’s.

”Alice, with an attitude like yours, you won’t live long. But don’t worry, I won’t just stand by and watch you die. I’ll close my eyes. You’d better watch yourself.”
