The Yellow-Haired Villain in Soaring Phoenix's Novels Also Desires Happiness

Silence. Stillness. Cold gloom.

The breeze outside the window kept blowing into this not particularly spacious room, yet no matter what, it could not soothe Muen’s violently pounding heart.

Muen pondered for a long time. His memory returned to earlier, to the moment when night had just descended. There had indeed been a strange murmur ringing beside his ear.

[Kill me.]

The boundary between daylight and night.

The murmur.

The request.

Everything, all of it, matched perfectly here.

“You mean the Goddess personally spoke and asked you to kill her?”

But Muen still refused to relax. He seriously watched Theodore’s eyes. If there was even the slightest falsehood or evasion in that gaze, he would notice immediately.

But there was none.

Just like that murmur, it had not been only his illusion.

“Yes. The Goddess asked us to kill her.”

Theodore nodded firmly.

“And this, this is also the second plan I mentioned just now... How do we save Annabawei, which has now fallen completely into despair?”

“Answer: we kill the Goddess of Night.”

“...”

Kill the Goddess?

What light, yet heavy words.

Muen closed his eyes.

He sank into thought.

Countless scattered images gathered and overturned in his mind, yet they still could not be pieced together into a complete picture.

He had not yet seen that Goddess of Night, so naturally, he did not know in what state she had said such a thing.

But this was indeed the best solution.

Because Annabawei’s long night came from the Goddess. Then, as long as they dealt with the culprit, the Goddess, the disaster shrouding this place would naturally vanish completely.

Compared with that...

Pioneering outward seemed more like a form of escape instead.

“So, Mr. President, the reason you’ve been targeting me so much... or rather, paying so much attention to me, also came from the Goddess’s instructions?” Muen suddenly asked.

“Yes. All information about you being an outsider was told to me by the Goddess, then confirmed at Grandma Meg’s.”

“Why would the Goddess pay so much attention to me? Because I’m an outsider?”

“That may be one reason, but according to the Goddess...”

Theodore looked into Muen’s eyes. “She believes you are the key person capable of killing her.”

“Why is she so certain?”

The Goddess was not a true god.

This conversation made Muen even more certain that she was only a powerful living being.

Because a true deity, no matter how weak, was not something the ordinary people inside this Annabawei could kill.

But if she was not even a god, why was this being so certain that he, an outsider, could be the so-called “key”?

Could it be that she had the ability to foresee the future?

Muen had indeed fought evil believers before, and the Goddess could probably see something through the evil believers’ eyes, but he also believed that after coming here, he had not shown his true level.

It was very simple.

The people here were too weak.

So weak they did not even have the qualifications to make him serious.

“I am not clear on that point. The Goddess only told me so.”

Theodore thought about it seriously. “But... perhaps you can ask the Goddess yourself?”

“Personally?” Muen raised an eyebrow.

“Did I not just say it? When day and night intersect.”

Theodore pointed at the night outside the window and said, “In reality, that is not a very strict point in time. After daylight has just passed, there is roughly a half-hour window.

“We should still be within that window right now.”

“...All right.”

Muen could not find a reason to object. And compared with having someone else convey it, personally confirming it himself would definitely be much more reliable.

As for the risk... Muen believed that since even Theodore had been fine, no matter what, he should not end up overturning here. He had faced true deities before, let alone a mere living being.

“What do I do?”

“Just light a candle. Light in the darkness will naturally draw the Goddess’s gaze.”

“No need for a candle.”

Muen rubbed his fingers together, and a smear of bright radiance immediately appeared at his fingertip, causing Theodore’s eyes to widen involuntarily.

He turned around and immediately rushed over to pull the curtains shut, then checked that the cracks in the walls were all properly blocked. Only then did he let out a breath and stand to the side, quietly waiting.

Muen watched the light in his hand.

As a test, he did not release any especially bright light, only controlling it to about the same level as a flickering candle flame.

But that was enough.

Because as that soft light filled the entire room, Muen truly sensed a gaze from far away falling upon him.

“It’s the Goddess!”

Theodore stared hard at the light at Muen’s fingertip. After confirming that it remained warm and gentle the whole time, he hurriedly spoke up to remind him, “It is the Goddess in her normal state!”

“...”

Muen held his breath and listened carefully.

Within the swaying of light and shadow, some kind of murmur began to echo beside his ear, growing increasingly clear.

[Child...]

[My children...]

[This is the last chance...]

[And also the last...]

[You...]

The murmur suddenly stopped. The Goddess of Night in that faraway place seemed to finally realize that the one connected this time was not Theodore, but an outsider who did not belong here.

Her tone changed as well.

[Kill, kill me, outsider...] That voice was filled with expectation, as if only this way could she obtain true release.

“Why should I kill you? Give me a reason.”

[Kill me, and daylight can return to normal...]

“I’m an outsider. That doesn’t have much appeal to me.” Muen seemed very heartless.

[...]

[...]

[Come. Kill me.]

[I know... where the person you seek... is.]

[Come...]

“...” Muen’s pupils suddenly contracted. This Goddess of Night actually knew his purpose?

“Those people from eight hundred years ago?”

[Yes. Eight hundred years ago...]

[Come here, and you will...]

[Learn the truth...]

“What truth?”

[Buuzzz—]

The intermittent words stopped abruptly, replaced by an ear-piercing hum.

It was as if a needle had stabbed straight into his ear, making Muen instinctively tilt his head, his brows tightly furrowed.

“Quick, quick, extinguish the light!”

Theodore cried out urgently. “The other Goddess personality is about to awaken!”

Muen’s gaze focused. Sure enough, the light radiating from his fingertip, which had filled the entire room and had originally been warm and gentle, suddenly became dim and deep. The area shrouded by the light was also being gradually compressed, almost vanishing completely.

It was as if some terrifying thing in the unseen was drawing near!

[Traitors!]

Suddenly, a roar exploded.

[I am your mother. You... you cannot betray...]

[You must listen to me... obediently...]

[Otherwise... hehehe...]

[Die...]

Muen pinched out the light.

Within that roar was mixed some kind of cold, sinister aura, making his hair stand on end.

The feeling of that instant actually almost made him think he was enthusiastically connecting on a call with some Evil God. It seemed that if he had been even one step later, a terrifying disaster would have followed.

“D-Don’t worry. Even in the night state, the Goddess’s power cannot spread here.”

Theodore wiped the sweat from his forehead.

“The evil Goddess usually has the evil believers under her act on her behalf. The sacred artifact Lord Alan left behind should have also sealed her power. Otherwise, we would have been finished long ago.”

“...”

Muen did not respond. He was still thinking about those words just now.

“The truth...”

The Goddess of Night had personally spoken the word “truth.”

In other words, under the current intelligence, current situation, and the collection of all kinds of information, there was still a deeper so-called “truth” hidden in unseen shadow?

That “truth” might be Annabawei’s most important secret.

“Everything has become troublesome...”

Muen looked at his palm.

In the center of his palm, a distortion of flesh and blood flashed past, then was silently devoured by black flames.
