Bu Zhi nodded. ”We must prepare for the possibility of an immediate confrontation. Fortify our positions and gather our forces. We need to devise a strategy that can defeat them and retain Beihai.” After Bu Zhi finished saying his words, Taishi Ci turned to the Beihai officials. ”Everyone, your cooperation has been invaluable. Now, we need your assistance once more. Help us reinforce the city’s defenses and prepare Beihai defenders for a potential siege.”

The officials, still grateful for the honorable treatment they received, agreed without hesitation. ”We will do everything in our power to support you,” one of them assured.

With urgency, Taishi Ci and Bu Zhi mobilized the Zhuque Army. Defensive positions were strengthened, and the city’s fortifications were bolstered. The Oriole agents continued to provide vital intelligence, allowing them to anticipate the movements of Xu Chu and Yue Jin’s forces.

As the sun began to set, casting long shadows over Beihai, Taishi Ci stood atop the city’s walls, surveying the horizon. ”We have the advantage of the city’s defenses and the loyalty of its people.”

Taishi Ci said to Bu Zhi, who stood beside him. ”But we must use every tactic at our disposal to hold off Cao Cao’s forces. Their numbers are great, but we have strategy and determination on our side.”

Bu Zhi nodded, his mind already working on potential strategies. ”We’ll need to be flexible and adaptive. The key will be to disrupt their formations and stretch their supply lines, as they could only send supplies through the Yellow River with Jibei under Baihu Army siege.”

Taishi Ci’s eyes gleamed with determination. ”Then let’s prepare for battle. We will show Cao Cao’s forces that Beihai is not an easy prize to claim, just like what we experienced.”

With resolve in their hearts, Taishi Ci and Bu Zhi set to work, coordinating the defense of Beihai. The city’s walls were reinforced, and strategic points were fortified to create chokepoints for any approaching enemy.

Archers were stationed at key positions, and traps were set along the likely paths of attack. They also ensured that the city’s supply lines were secure, anticipating a prolonged siege if necessary.

Meanwhile, Xu Chu and Yue Jin led their men toward Beihai, their minds set on reinforcing the city’s defenses. As they neared their destination, a scout approached with urgent news.

”Generals, Beihai has fallen to Lie Fan’s forces,” the scout reported, his voice trembling slightly. ”They took the city just before our arrival.”

Xu Chu’s face darkened with anger. He slammed his giant rod hammer into the ground, causing the earth to crack under the force. ”We were so close!” he roared. ”How could we let this happen? Lord Cao Cao will be disheartened by the loss of Beihai and our incompetence!”

Yue Jin, though equally troubled, tried to maintain his composure. ”We cannot change what has happened, but we must act quickly. We need to reassess our strategy and decide our next move. Beihai is now an enemy stronghold.”

Xu Chu took a deep breath, his fury simmering. ”You’re right, General Yue Jin. We need to think clearly. Our best chance now is to lay siege to Beihai and cut off their supplies. We must isolate them and force them into submission.”

Yue Jin nodded. ”We should also send word to our other forces in Jibei, requesting their reinforcements if they can spare some men. A coordinated effort will be necessary to reclaim Beihai as its defenses and fortifications will be reinforced.”

Yue Jin dispatched a messenger toward Xiahou Yuan and Li Dian’s army, seeking reinforcements to bolster their efforts to retake Beihai. Unbeknownst to him, Oriole agents, expertly placed within his ranks, had been monitoring their every move.

As the messenger departed under the cover of night, the agents quietly followed, striking with lethal precision several distances away from the main camp. The envoy never reached his destination, leaving Xiahou Yuan and Li Dian unaware of the call for assistance.

Even if the messenger reached Xiahou Yuan and Li Dian, there would be no reinforcement as they didn’t have any men to spare with them fighting against the Baihu Army, but of course, they could still send a reply to inform Xu Chu and Yue Jin.

The next day, as dawn broke, Xu Chu and Yue Jin led their men to the outskirts of Beihai. The fortified city loomed ahead, its defenses bolstered by the Zhuque Army under Taishi Ci and Bu Zhi.

Xu Chu, his eyes blazing with determination, directed his men to form battle lines, anticipating a fierce confrontation. ”Prepare the siege equipment!” Xu Chu bellowed. ”We’ll take Beihai, while we wait for the news for our reinforcement!”

Yue Jin, standing beside him, surveyed the enemy fortifications. ”We should send skirmishers first to test their defenses and probe for any weak points. If we can create a breach, it will give us a significant advantage.”

As the siege began, Xu Chu and Yue Jin’s forces launched a series of probing attacks, testing the strength of Beihai’s defenders.

The Zhuque Army, well-prepared and highly motivated, repelled each assault with tenacity and strategic precision. The Zhuque Army used the city’s fortifications to their advantage, raining arrows and projectiles down on the attackers.

Taishi Ci and Bu Zhi, overseeing the defense from the city walls, maintained a watchful eye on the battlefield. They knew that holding Beihai was crucial for Lie Fan’s campaign, and they were determined not to let it fall.

”They’re testing our defenses,” Taishi Ci observed. ”We must remain vigilant and conserve our strength for the main assault.”

Bu Zhi nodded. ”The longer we can hold them off, the more desperate they will become. Their morale will wane if they see no progress, and if we could have the navy cut their supply likes from the Yellow River it will destroy them.”

As the day dragged on, Xu Chu and Yue Jin grew increasingly frustrated by the lack of progress and the absence of news concerning their reinforcement, whether there would be any or not.

Xu Chu, his patience wearing thin, slammed his rod hammer into the wood pillar, destroying it in his frustration. ”Where is the news of our reinforcements, General Yue Jin?! If there are no reinforcements, we need to reduce the intensity of our siege as we can’t sustain this pace alone.”

Yue Jin, though equally exasperated, tried to maintain a calm demeanor. ”We must remain patient. Perhaps there have been delays in the messenger that brings us the news. In the meantime, we could reduce the pace of our attack and shift our focus to look for any signs of weakness that we could immediately exploit.”

Unbeknownst to them, their call for reinforcements had been silenced by the Oriole agents. As night fell, the siege stopped under Yue Jin’s command to let his men rest, ending it with both sides locked in a deadly stalemate.

On the other hand, under the cover of darkness, Jiang Qin led his navy through the Yellow River, his mind sharp and focused on the task ahead.

Bu Zhi’s intelligence had provided him with a crucial target to take down, which was the crossing port between Beihai and Pingyuan, where Cao Cao’s supply lines were sent through waters for Xu Chu and Yue Jin Armies.

As Jiang Qin’s fleet sailed silently through the night, the moonlight casting a pale glow on the water, the tension was palpable among his men. They knew the importance of their mission and the potential impact it could have on the ongoing siege of Beihai.

After several meters of sailing, Jiang Qin’s sharp eyes caught sight of the enemy ships bearing Cao Cao’s flag, harbored at the crossing port. He raised his hand, signaling his men to prepare for battle. The ships moved quietly into position, their movements coordinated and precise.

”Men, this is our moment,” Jiang Qin whispered to his crew. ”We strike swiftly and decisively. Neutralize the enemy and secure the port, bombard them with everything we got!”

With a determined nod, the Marines readied their weapons. Jiang Qin gave the signal, and the Zhuque Navy sprang into action. The quiet night erupted into chaos as the ships fired their Hwacha at Cao Cao’s ships.

Arrows flew through the air, and the clash of steel rang out across the water, as several of Jiang Qin’s ships closed themselves into Cao Cao’s ships and boarded the ships entering close combat.

Jiang Qin led the charge, his sword flashing in the moonlight as he cut down Cao Cao’s marines. His men followed his lead, boarding the enemy ships and engaging in fierce close-quarters combat.

The element of surprise worked in their favor, and the enemy caught off guard, struggled to mount an effective defense especially since it happened under the cover of the night, where almost all except for the patrols were taking their rest.

The battle raged on, the water churning with the movements of the ships, ships that were set on fire, and the cries of the marines fighting.

Jiang Qin’s navy fought with unmatched ferocity, their determination fueled by the knowledge that victory here could turn the tide on Beihai, and reduce the amount of casualties that could be attained.

As the hours passed, the Navy began to gain the upper hand. The enemy ships were slowly but surely overwhelmed, and their crews were either captured or forced to retreat. The crossing port, once a hub of Cao Cao’s supply line, now lay in the hands of Jiang Qin and his men.

Jiang Qin stood on the deck of a captured enemy ship, surveying the scene with satisfaction. ”Secure the port and prepare for any counterattacks,” he ordered. ”We must hold this position at all costs.”

His men moved quickly to carry out his commands, fortifying their new position and ensuring that no supplies would reach Cao Cao’s army from this direction. The success of their mission would significantly hinder the enemy’s ability to sustain their siege on Beihai.

As dawn broke, Jiang Qin sent a messenger back to Taishi Ci and Bu Zhi with news of their victory. The Zhuque Army’s spirits soared as they received word of the successful operation.

The capture of the crossing port was a significant blow to Cao Cao’s forces, and it strengthened their resolve to defend Beihai and push back the enemy.

In the days that followed, the balance of power in the siege of Beihai began to shift. The Zhuque Army, bolstered by the disruption of Cao Cao’s supply lines, mounted a series of coordinated resistance, slowly but steadily turning the tide in their favor. Xu Chu and Yue Jin without any news of their reinforcement and late supplies, could only be on the passive keeping their attack while sustaining heavy casualties.
