”I’m sorry Master Wang Shang, but I disagree with your opinion. While it’s true that Liu Bei held a strategic location, it was also a dangerous one since he was surrounded by strong enemies, that could become our enemies as well like Cao Cao and Lie Fan, so this alliance didn’t hold any benefit.”, as Fa Zheng was saying this words, the whole hall was shrouded in silence while Zhang Wei and Wang Shan angered by Fa Zheng’s defiance and challenge of their power.

No one had expected that Fa Zheng would dare to defy both Zhang Wei and Wang Shang openly, and Zhang Song who was beside him tries to rein the much younger advisor than him.

”Xiaozhi! You shouldn’t defy them while everyone watching, they would try anything to curb you now, so calm down and apologize!”, whispers Zhang Song to Fa Zheng as he nudges him with his shoulders.

Unfazed by Zhang Song’s words, Fa Zheng shook his head and steeled himself to face whatever consequences, ”If we don’t do something now, we will never have the chance to advance our position!”, Fa Zheng whispered back to Zhang Song.

These words touched Zhang Song’s core because since Zhang Wei and Wang Shang control the court, except for the people in their circle, no one with high merits had advanced their position.

”I agree with what you think,” Zhang Song whispered keeping his face stoic, ”But this isn’t an ideal way to do it, especially since Our lord is still in their grasp”, Zhang Song said so as he looked at Zhang Wei and Wang Shang trying to read their body movement.

While Zhang Song and Fa Zheng exchanged whispered words, Zhang Wei and Wang Shang exchanged glances with each other, to see who will address Fa Zheng.

After several exchanges, it was finally decided that Zhang Wei would be the one addressing Fa Zheng, ”Fa Zheng while I understand your opinion, you’re still too young to fully understand the weight of your words,” Zhang Wei said so as his eyes turned frosty.

”As Master Zhang Wei had just said, you lacked the experience to understand such a matter, so I asked that you stop meddling in this kind of matter,” Wang Shang added some words to support Zhang Wei, ”Also, Zhang Song I hope that you don’t teach Fa Zheng bad things”, turning to Zhang Song, Wang Shang said to him with a warning in his voice.

Being called out by Wang Shang, Zhang Song trembled while cupping his hand to apologize and promised to teach Fa Zheng better, while Fa Zheng feel humiliated by what Zhang Wei and Wang Shang said.

He wanted to retaliate against the two of them, but Zhang Song managed to take hold of his arm and told him to stop because the situation was bad for them now, and they could possibly be demoted to even sent far away from Chengdu.

Hearing what Zhang Song said, Fa Zheng could only hold his tongue and with a heavy heart apologized to both Zhang Wei and Wang Shan, saying that he realized that he was inexperienced compared to the two of them.

Seeing that Zhang Song and Fa Zheng finally submit to the two of them, Zhang Wei and Wang Shan were satisfied and decided to let them go, and Zhang Wei even praised Fa Zheng that he have a bright future.

Knowing when to act and with whom you were speaking was a very important trait an official had to have, especially one that was still very you and lacked any experience and without any valid contribution.

These words acted to lessen the tension in the hall, but also a warning to Fa Zheng, Zhang Song, and the others who had little thought to rebel against him and Wang Shan’s power over the court, throwing those thoughts far away.

Liu Zhang who was stuck between these officials was confused and bewildered, and didn’t know how to act because he always follows the words of Zhang Wei and Wang Shan, so now without any direction, he was like a lost sheep without its shepherd.

”M-master Zhang Wei and W-wang Shan, so should we accept the alliance offer from Liu Bei or not?”, asks Liu Zhang with a somewhat trembling voice that attracts the attention of everyone in the hall.

Zhang Wei turned toward Liu Zhang and saw the dependent look on Liu Zhang’s face, causing him to smirk, ”Yes, we should agree My Lord. This is once in a lifetime for us, which will bring many benefits for us”, as he was saying so he glanced to Wang Shan looking for support.

”What Zhang Wei said is correct My Lord”, said Wang Shan with a confident tone, ”Liu Bei seeking an ally during this time could be exploited by us, we could ask for money and grains rather than having a land that was far away from our location”, he continued his words while spreading his hand wide signaling his supporters.

The hall immediately filled with the voices of Zhang Wei and Wang Shan’s supporters, supporting their leader to persuade Liu Zhang in accepting the alliance.

As the voices clamored for Liu Zhang to accept the alliance, Fa Zheng and Zhang Song who were joined by Meng Da on the side, looked at what was happening in the hall as something sickening.

This was an ongoing thing since the moment Liu Zhang succeeded Liu Yan’s position, officially began the reign of the Yi Province Nobles and Merchants, and Liu Zhang was only a puppet acting in their name.

Seeing so much support for both Zhang Wei and Wang Shan, Liu Zhang finally announced his decision to accept Liu Bei’s offer for an alliance, and how much money and grain will be decided by Zhang Wei and Wang Shan, exchanging the terms of the land that Liu Bei offer to them.

The decision was greeted with loud applause across the hall, causing Liu Zhang to smile filled with satisfaction as he thought he is doing the right thing, while both Zhang Wei and Wang Shan smirked.

Their eyes show greed while accepting Liu Zhang’s order appointing them to draft the letter and decide the amount of money and grain in the terms for the alliance because they could file their own pockets.

With that soon the court was dispersed by Zhang Wei and Wang Shan who couldn’t wait to decide how much they will ask Liu Bei, and this cemented a shaky foundation for Liu Bei and Liu Zhang’s alliance.

In Xiapi, the information about the reaction to Liu Bei’s offer for an alliance by both Yuan Shao and Liu Zhang’s force arrived at Lie Fan’s desk, as Lie Fan was discussing Liu Biao’s matter with Jia Xu, Xun You, Chen Qun, and Lu Su.

They talked about what effect Liu Biao’s matter potentially could have on them since this means a new variable joined the theater when the letter was suddenly brought by Xu Kai and given to Lie Fan.

Xu Kai’s sudden appearance surprised everyone in the room, but soon Lie Fan opened the letter and read the information inside while everyone waited for him to finish reading the letter.

”Hmm, as we predicted Yuan Shao’s advisors weren’t on the same page about the alliance,” Lie Fan said as he looked at his advisors,” Liu Zhang on the other hand accepted the alliance but there was an internal crack inside.”, as he continue his words Lie Fan put down the letter on his table.

Jia Xu nodded his head as he listened to Lie Fan’s words, ”Then everything is as we predicted My Lord, but why does internal crack in Liu Zhang’s force mean?”, asked Jia Xu as he was intrigued by Lie Fan’s last words.

”Zhang Wei and Wang Shan who ruled Liu Zhang’s court challenged”, Lie Fan said as he give the letter at his table to Jia Xu, ”Fa Zheng and Zhang Song were the ones who shook their authority but managed to be curbed down.”

As Jia Xu was reading the letter, Chen Qun who stood beside Jia Xu asked Lie Fan, ”What does the challenge mean My Lord? Are they trying to undermine Zhang Wei and Wang Shan’s authority or something else?”, when Chen Qun ask this question Xun You, Chen Gong, and Lu Su nod their head in agreement with his question.

Before Lie Fan could answer Chen Qun’s question, Jia Xu answered it before him, ”Fa Zheng challenged Zhang Wei and Wang Shan’s head on in front of everyone, and Zhang Song who stood on his side caught in the crossfire.”, Jia Xu said to Chen Qun giving the letter to him to read.

”What an interesting young man this Fa Zheng is”, said Chen Qun reading the information about Fa Zheng, ”He had the heart and knowledge to fight his oppressors.”

These words receive a response from Xun You who was cleaning his sleeve, ”He may have the heart and mind but lacked experience and patience, that’s why he managed to be curbed down.”

” I agree with Master Xun You’s words, it’s no use if he has the heart and mind but lacks those two qualities, as these two what caused me to not become an official as I don’t feel ready yet”, Lu Su agreed with Xun You words and showed his support by saying his piece.

As everyone gave their opinion and exchanged some words, Chen Gong who was silent suddenly had an epiphany that he felt needed to be shared with everyone.

So he let out a loud cough that attracted the attention of everyone in the room, ”I have something that I would like to share”, said Chen Gonh after seeing that everyone’s attention was on him.

”Why dont we use this chance to create a network of people that will help us to defeat Liu Zhang in the future?”, the moment those words came out of Chen Gong’s mouth, everyone except for Lie Fan understood what he meant.

Jia Xu was the first one who respond, ”That’s a marvelous idea, Master Chen Gong. Preparing future moles for us is a great move, especially since Yi Province is very hard to attack.”, said Jia Xu as he nodded his head.

Lie Fan on the other hand was confused at first, but when he listened to what Jia Xu had just said he finally understood and remembered that Liu Bei in the original timeline more or less did the same thing, with the help of the same people which is Fa Zheng and Zhang Song, the differences is that it was him and the frustration of Fa Zheng and Zhang Song hast reached its peak.
