Chaotic Land

We resumed the journey. It didn’t take long for us to reach the small city. It’s located near the undying river.

The city’s economy depends on the river. I quickly found an inn to settle down. I decided to look at other things the next morning.

The following day,

I woke up and began to get ready. Then I left the inn one hour later. I began to roam the city to collect information.

I heard people talking that one of the bandits’ dens was destroyed. Now the bandits from other dens are looking for the culprits.

Everyone was afraid that it was a targeted attack. The locals didn’t want to get stuck in the crossfire. I didn’t expect the reaction would be this big.

If this goes on, they will turn to investigate the people who have entered the city. Then I eventually came across the river port.

A quick gleam appeared in my eyes. The wizards can use their flight ability to fly over the river. Yet they are using the old method.

Which means something is hidden beneath the river. I used the system probe function.

[Ding! 11th Order Monsters are living in the deep river.]

[Ding! They will attack anything flying over the river.]

The system voice sounded in my mind. My eyes gleamed with a twinkle. No wonder the people are using the ship to cross.

Still, the ship might face danger as well. Then someone must be on the ship to provide safety. But I don’t have to worry about that.

The system completely shields my presence. So no one can sense me. But in order not to draw attention, I decided to leave tonight.

Then I spent a few hours roaming the city, enjoying the local foods before returning to the inn. After returning to the inn, I released the zero puppet.

The dark red smoke appeared next to me.

”Go and collect information for me. The bandit den destruction has caused a stir. If there is any Forbidden Wizard behind them, then we have to be careful,” I said to the zero puppet.

Swoosh!

The zero puppet agreed. The next second, the dark red smoke left the inn through the window.

Meanwhile,

There are 12 bandit dens outside the city. Behind each bandit den, there is a Magic Lord. The 12 Magic Lord Wizards are living secretly here.

In order to get resources, they formed a bandit team and targeted the rich people crossing the river. The land behind the river is filled with resources.

But the terrain is dangerous. Only experienced people can go inside and come out. Despite that, there are people who want to try their luck.

Because of them, the business boomed. The ships have started taking customers regularly to take them to the other end.

There are incidents involving sea monsters that have occurred. But the Magic Lords on board would take care of it.

There are rumors of a 13th Order monster living in the deep sea. But so far, it has not made any appearance.

But the Magic Lord wizards had heard of the story. There was a 13th Order Monster in this Undying River decades ago. It’s because of that monster the name Undying came to the river.

Since then, no Magic Lord Wizards have had the guts to explore the depths of the river. Even a strong body-type wizard would be swept away by the strong undercurrents.

Right now, the Magic Lord Wizards are forced to take action. One of the Magic Lord wizards’ bandit den was attacked. The members were all killed.

There are a few survivors; apart from them, no one survived inside the den. The Magic Lord wizard behind the destroyed den was an old man nearing his life’s end.

He had been collecting resources desperately for the Breakthrough. The bandit den was a huge help to him. Now that it was destroyed, he had asked other bandit den founders to do something.

They needed to get to the bottom of this. The old man doesn’t seem to have any enemies. So if it was targeted at them, then they have to guard the rest of the bandit dens as well.

The Magic Lords then sent teams to the small city to collect information. They can tell that it was not the work of a local. They knew about the locals’ strength.

It must be that the bandit team attacked some caravans. In retaliation, the bandit den was destroyed.

The zero puppet is collecting information. It didn’t take long for the puppet to find suspicious people. Their activities show that they were here to gather information as well.

The zero puppet followed them in the form of smoke. It lingered around them and continued to collect the information.

As time passed, the red smoke came across more suspicious people. They are none other than the bandit members. They are not hiding their intentions at all.

They are asking around the people openly. They were not worried about the authorities here.

The zero puppet gathered information from them.

That night, it returned to the inn and shared the information with the Master.

”Magic Lords,” I uttered.

I was right. The bandits’ dens are backed by powerful wizards. These Magic Lords must be doing these activities to get breakthrough resources.

My mouth curved into an arc. Since it’s not a forbidden wizard, I can leave any time. At midnight, I put the zero puppet inside the mansion.

Then I checked out of the inn. I moved towards the river. I had already covered my presence by using the system. It didn’t take long for me to reach the riverbank.

I got there and swept my gaze across the place. There are a few people wandering right now. They must be workers.

After confirming that no one was watching here, I looked towards the long and wide stretch of river. The river may seem calm above.

But the undercurrents are powerful.

Swoosh!

The next second, I used the flight ability. I appeared above the water surface. I rose further high in the sky. Then I began to cross the river.
