Chapter 215: Chapter 214: It’s in the Bag

A delicate nose, a small face, bright eyes, and pearly white teeth. The corners of her red lips curled into a mischievous smile.

Her eyes gleamed with delight, but she couldn’t hide the playful glint, as if some scheme of hers had just succeeded.

She waved a delicate wrist, showing off the two sheets of paper in her hand, flaunting them.

One was a Linwei transfer order, and the other was a Level A mission.

”Captain.”

Watching the figure in a golden eagle brocade robe and familiar face walk in from outside, Wu Chen respectfully clasped his fists in a salute, his expression impassive.

In his heart, however, he had already labeled this woman a ’bad woman’.

It wasn’t that Sun Yuting was truly bad. After all, a girl not yet twenty, with her limited life experience, had still personally ventured out of the city to risk capturing a formidable barbarian spy.

In fact, she could be considered an upright person, a good officer.

But that wasn’t the issue. The problem was that outside the city, she had sworn up and down that she wouldn’t cause him any trouble after returning to the Demon Suppression Bureau.

Yet, he had barely arrived at the Linwei Garrison before she showed up right on his heels.

She was undoubtedly here for him.

As for the reason, Wu Chen knew it must be because she was holding a grudge after he had felt her muscles...

But now, she held his lifeline in her hands, and she was dangling it right in front of him.

He really had no choice but to yield.

Who could possibly stand for that?

So, for the sake of the Level A mission and the transfer order, Wu Chen could only obediently clasp his fists and respectfully address her as ’Captain’.

Li Youtao also clasped his fists and bowed his head toward the figure entering from the doorway. He then glanced at Wu Chen out of the corner of his eye, knowing the guy was probably in for it.

She had headed straight for the inner room, clearly aiming for Wu Chen.

He figured this Captain was holding a grudge because she had come by before, only to find Wu Chen out and be turned away at the door.

That’s why she was holding the mission and the order back, waiting specifically for Wu Chen.

Just as Li Youtao was about to speak, intending to introduce them to each other and say a few words to ease the tension, Sun Yuting, whose gaze had swept over Wu Chen several times, spoke first:

”Young Master Wu, I have a ’low-tier Level A’ mission here. I happen to be short one person. Are you interested?”

Li Youtao froze. Her tone was inquisitive, not a blunt command. ’Do these two know each other?’

Besides, she was a Golden Eagle Captain holding a transfer order at the Linwei Garrison. Couldn’t she just pick whomever she wanted?

Even if this Young Master Wu wanted to rely on the great tree that was the Demon Suppression Bureau, he’d still have to grit his teeth and obey.

’Why ask so politely?’

While he was still puzzled, Wu Chen gave a slight nod and immediately agreed:

”I’ll go.”

The girl had come to him with the very mission he needed, and she wasn’t arrogantly ordering him to follow. Instead, she used a questioning, consultative tone, which showed her sincerity.

Moreover, she held a genuine Level A mission. As long as he completed it, there would be a reward.

For these reasons, Wu Chen saw no reason to refuse.

Furthermore, since Sun Yuting had already witnessed his skills, the fact that she sought him out meant the upcoming mission was very dangerous. She had taken a liking to his strength, believing he was capable enough to complete the task. That’s why she had come to him.

’Besides that, could she have taken a liking to... something else about me?’

’Does she want to get a handful of my muscles too?’

Wu Chen thought it was unlikely... but not impossible. He decided it would be necessary to protect his muscles during the upcoming mission.

A boy’s innocence is still innocence.

”Then come with me.”

Seeing how quickly he agreed, Sun Yuting turned and left. Her short hair fluttered behind her, and a trace of surprise flashed across her proud face.

She had originally thought that when Wu Chen saw it was her bringing the mission, he would hesitate or try to refuse.

Then, she could use the opportunity to taunt him a little, bruise his ego, and then forcibly conscript him.

She never expected him to agree in an instant, without a hint of hesitation in his voice. This left no room for her to utter a single word of the ridicule she had prepared.

However, when she thought about his strength and the composure he’d shown while taking down the barbarian spy outside the city...

Sun Yuting suddenly realized that Wu Chen really had no reason to hesitate.

”Captain Li, I’ll be taking my leave then.”

Watching her departing figure, Wu Chen turned his head to glance at Li Youtao beside him, offered a polite farewell, and then quickened his pace to follow Sun Yuting.

As the two of them left, the room fell silent once more.

”That guy... he’s a real madman!”

Watching Wu Chen and the Golden Eagle Captain disappear, Li Youtao was stunned by Wu Chen’s decisiveness.

As a Tiger Head Captain, he had naturally seen how even Golden Eagle Captains would have to think twice before taking on missions, no matter their capabilities.

Even the Cloud Pattern Captains would weigh the pros and cons, make thorough arrangements, and only then take action.

But this Wu Chen... putting everything else aside, shouldn’t you at least ask what the mission is about?

You just agree without a single question? Are you that certain you can go, cut down the enemy leader, and return safely?

Li Youtao didn’t know how to describe this young man.

He was complex.

Even after only two meetings, that was the impression he got.

He seemed so steady and composed, yet when it came to missions and earning merit, he gave off a certain vibe:

’I don’t know who I am, I don’t know where this mission is, all I know is I’m going to start killing!’

Although Wu Chen didn’t show it, Li Youtao could sense this bone-deep arrogance!

...

”...”

Wu Chen followed behind Sun Yuting with a blank expression, keeping a distance of two body-lengths from the Golden Eagle Captain. It was neither too close nor too far—just right.

He gave Sun Yuting no opportunity to find fault.

His goal was clear: complete this Level A mission.

And then come back and reward himself.

Ah, no, that is, collect his reward.

As for the difficulty of this mission, Wu Chen wasn’t actually worried. He felt he had at least a 98% chance of success.

The main reason for this confidence wasn’t his own formidable strength, but the fact that the team leader was Sun Yuting, who was only at the Blood Coagulation Realm.

If a Cloud Pattern Captain had come with the transfer order instead, his confidence would probably drop to 97%.

However, when it came down to it, Wu Chen wasn’t against going on a mission with Sun Yuting. In fact, he was quite satisfied that she had sought him out.

It wasn’t because Sun Yuting was good-looking and pleasing to the eye, but rather because of the incident in the forest with the barbarian spy. He had a basic understanding of her situation.

If it had been some useless, rich young master...

...forget about the mission’s success or failure, if something went wrong and that useless young master didn’t even have the ability to save his own life, he might end up getting himself killed.

Even if the Demon Suppression Bureau didn’t trouble him afterward...

...the faction behind the young master would definitely not let him off easy. They would blame him for the death of their heir.

That would force him to leave the Demon Suppression Bureau and seek out another faction.

’Didn’t she say before that she had a way to subdue the barbarian spy?’

Wu Chen lifted his gaze to the girl’s back in front of him.

Back in the forest, while dealing with the barbarian spy, the bound Sun Yuting had faced the barbarian who had activated his Secret Pattern and shouted for Wu Chen to untie her, saying she had a way to subdue the spy.

Wu Chen still remembered that.

This at least proved that Sun Yuting wasn’t as carefree as she appeared, and her methods were surely not simple.

It was just a shame that she had run into him, who was even stronger, so her skills had no chance to be displayed.

In that case, even if an emergency occurred during the mission and he was too busy to help, she would at least have the means to hold on until he could get there.

That set his mind at ease quite a bit.

”...”

He followed Sun Yuting out of the Demon Suppression Bureau, and they turned onto a side street.

Five Silver Wolf Level Captains were there, holding horses and preparing a carriage.

Hearing footsteps, the men turned their heads. Upon seeing Sun Yuting, they immediately stood at attention, waiting for the Golden Eagle Captain’s inspection.

Wu Chen’s gaze swept over their faces, and he realized they were all old acquaintances.

He had knocked each of them down with a single kick.

At that same moment, the Silver Wolf Captains were sizing up the figure behind Sun Yuting.

When they saw the familiar face, their eyes widened in astonishment. They subconsciously clutched their stomachs and clenched their thighs.

Their injuries, though long healed, inexplicably began to throb again at the sight of this face.

’She went to get him, not Captain Li Youtao?’

They all swallowed hard.

They had assumed that for this mission, when their Captain said she was going to the Linwei Garrison to find one more person, she would be getting the demoted veteran Captain, Li Youtao, to assist.

But they never, ever expected her to bring back this monster!

The phantom cramps in their guts were one thing, but in their hearts, they also knew:

’This mission is in the bag!’
