Chapter 36: Chapter 36: I Only Do 2 Things in My Life

Broken Blade Mountain, at the summit.

The clash of weapons was incessant.

Wu Chen was still on the attack.

With his overwhelming advantage in realm, he had slaughtered the six Direct Disciples who entered the mountain with extreme speed, expending almost no effort.

But the disciples next to the Direct Disciples all had their own schemes. It was as if they were born with deceit in their hearts; not a single one cried out, simply watching with wide eyes as the Direct Disciples were killed.

As a result, most of the Demon Sect disciples were still unaware that the strongest Direct Disciples in their group had already fallen.

’Wait a minute. Five Flesh Refining Realm experts, one didn’t have a Martial Arts manual, and two of the manuals were duplicates?’

Back behind the lines of the runaways, Wu Chen looked at the two Flesh Refining Realm Martial Arts manuals Liu Linshan handed him: one called ’Yin Wind Leg’ and the other ’Heart Shattering Palm’.

He was completely dumbfounded.

’Killed five people, and only two useful manuals to show for it?’

But this was no time to dwell on it. Wu Chen quickly stuffed the manuals into his chest robes and turned his gaze toward the remaining Blood Slaughter Sect disciples.

By now, both the runaways and the Blood Slaughter Sect disciples had suffered casualties.

Even with all the Direct Disciples dead, the Blood Slaughter Sect disciples were simply too numerous. They outnumbered the runaways several times over and thus held the absolute advantage.

If not for the need to agitate the runaways’ Qi and Blood, the defensive line they formed would have crumbled at the first touch and never held out this long.

”This time, I’m going to charge into the Demon Sect disciples. You don’t need to follow me; just go help the others.”

”Also, don’t forget to loot the Martial Arts manuals.”

Wu Chen decided to end this quickly. Five Flesh Refining Realm experts had only yielded two Martial Arts manuals.

He was furious!

He would take it out on the five hundred Demon Sect disciples.

Although these disciples were only in the Body Tempering Realm and wouldn’t have Flesh Refining Realm Martial Arts manuals...

’...they should still have basic Martial Arts manuals. Even if they’re duplicates, surely I can get ten or fifteen of them, right?’

As long as the quantity was high enough, it could bring about a qualitative leap in his Qi Power!

SWISH!

After issuing that last command, his figure vanished. He shot into the air, easily leaping over the heads of the runaways in front of him.

BOOM!

When he landed, Wu Chen appeared directly on the shoulders of a Demon Sect disciple.

His eighteen hundred jin of Qi Power, combined with the force of his descent...

The Demon Sect disciple felt as if a mountain had crashed down on him. He was forced to his knees on the spot, his internal organs ruptured, and he coughed up a great mouthful of red mist, a truly gruesome sight.

”A great medicine is trying to escape!”

”Stop him!”

The nearby Demon Sect disciples were stunned for a moment when they saw a runaway leap out. Then, with a great shout, instead of fleeing, they swarmed toward Wu Chen.

This amused Wu Chen.

’I was actually worried that such a grand entrance would scare these disciples away.’

’They save all their cunning for their own people...’

Watching the disciples surround him, Wu Chen cursed inwardly and spun the steel saber in his hand.

There were no flashy moves.

The six disciples closest to him, who had just caught sight of his figure, faltered. A red line appeared on each of their necks, and then they collapsed, dead.

But there were simply too many Demon Sect disciples. Wu Chen glanced out and saw a sea of them, stretching almost out of sight.

’Killing them one by one like this will take forever.’

’Would two sabers be faster?’

At that thought, Wu Chen flicked his foot, hooking a saber up from the ground and catching it in his left hand.

Dual-wielding!

He had never learned any dual-saber Martial Arts, but his realm was so high that it crushed everyone present.

His movement speed, attack speed, physical constitution, and Qi Power were all beyond compare.

’Delays breed complications. I need to act fast.’

Wu Chen couldn’t be sure that the leaders from Zhuangzi wouldn’t suddenly descend upon the mountain. If they arrived, not a single runaway would survive.

Even he would be in considerable danger.

He took a deep breath, testing out his twin sabers by whirling them into a blur at his sides.

Then, the rotation of his wrists grew faster and faster.

Eventually, to the ordinary eye, only afterimages of the blades could be seen.

A frigid, violent wind kicked up by the sabers raged around Wu Chen.

And then.

Wu Chen spun and leaped, plowing into the crowd of Demon Sect disciples like a wild bull. Flesh and blood flew everywhere he passed.

He was a human meat grinder.

With a single charge, he tore a huge gap in the ranks of the Demon Sect disciples.

’Damn, I’m fine! But the sabers can’t take it!’

Looking at the notched and chipped blades, Wu Chen was speechless. He casually threw them, piercing the chests of two disciples who had seen things were going badly and were trying to escape.

There was no shortage of steel sabers around. Wu Chen hooked another two with his feet and continued his furious slaughter, one in each hand.

Thirty, fifty, one hundred, one hundred fifty, two hundred...

As he continued his rampage, the Demon Sect disciples fell in swathes, as if he were scything grass.

Wu Chen went through one steel saber after another.

But the effect was obvious.

Wherever he went, not a single Demon Sect disciple was left alive. They didn’t even have time to scream before they died.

Horizontal slashes, vertical chops, thrown blades—there was no escape from his hands!

For the sixty or so remaining runaways, the pressure on them lessened dramatically as the number of Demon Sect disciples before them plummeted.

They too had noticed Wu Chen rampaging through the Demon Sect disciples.

They watched that unstoppable figure tear through the enemy ranks; they watched the Demon Sect disciples fall around him, turning into cold corpses before they could even scream.

Their eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.

’Was it even possible to kill people like that?’

”Something’s wrong! Something’s wrong with this batch of medicine!”

With the number of their brethren plummeting and the runaways’ battle line pushing forward, the remaining two hundred or so Demon Sect disciples finally realized something was terribly wrong.

Looking at the ground littered with the bodies of their fellows, they no longer had any thought of taking the runaways’ ”heart apertures” to exchange for rewards within the sect.

They wanted to run.

But turning their backs to flee meant taking a vicious saber strike from the runaways.

The runaways knew just as well that simply forcing these disciples to retreat was useless. They had to be exterminated to the last man, leaving no one to cause trouble later!

Otherwise, if the Guards at the foot of the mountain got word, or if that discreet steward from Zhuangzi learned what had happened here...

...this group of theirs would never escape the demon’s den!

”Don’t let a single one escape!”

”Kill!”

The runaways roared with hoarse voices, their eyes bloodshot and their faces stained with blood.

Many bore wounds so deep that bone was visible, the flesh peeled back to reveal the stark white beneath.

Some had arms hanging on by mere strips of flesh and skin, yet they didn’t seem to notice, simply switching their sabers to their other hand to continue the fight.

They screamed, bathed in blood, trading life for life as they hacked at the Demon Sect disciples.

United for once, the runaways swung their sabers with everything they had, temporarily forgetting the pain from their wounds.

The potential erupting from these sixty-odd people was enough to hold back nearly two hundred Demon Sect disciples!

Wu Chen, meanwhile, stood alone, blocking the path from the summit into the forest.

Whenever a Demon Sect disciple broke away from the fight, a steel saber would fly from his hand with a whistle, cutting off any chance of retreat.

Even if he missed, he could rush over and strangle the life out of the fleeing disciple on the summit.

For a time, the Demon Sect disciples were trapped. They couldn’t beat the runaways in front of them, and there wasn’t the slightest possibility of escape behind them.

Caught in the middle, they were damned if they did and damned if they didn’t.

「A short while later.」

Not a single Demon Sect disciple was left alive on the mountain. Severed limbs littered the ground, and blood overflowed from the wounds of the corpses, gathering in the low-lying areas to form a crimson Blood Pool.

On the runaways’ side, only forty or so had survived, every one of them wounded, with shards of bone protruding from their flesh—a truly miserable sight.

”Young Master Wu, perhaps you should rest for a while?”

Liu Linshan walked up to Wu Chen, holding a stack of Martial Arts manuals.

Seeing Wu Chen breathing heavily, he was about to suggest putting the Martial Arts Manuals aside for him to look at later.

”It’s fine.”

Wu Chen waved his hand, pulled the other Martial Arts Manuals from his robes, and joked:

”In my life, I only do two things: kill people, and read Martial Arts manuals.”

”Right now, I’m tired of killing.”

”So I’ll read some Martial Arts manuals to rest.”

With that, he sat down on a relatively clean rock on the summit and began to quietly flip through the Martial Arts manuals.

A light breeze swept across the summit, gently rustling the young man’s hair.

The warm, yellow sun dipped below the horizon, its last rays falling on the summit and casting a golden glow on the young man’s face.

The only sound on the summit was the RUSTLE of Wu Chen turning the pages.

If not for the thick, metallic stench of Blood Qi and the severed limbs covering the ground, it would have been a beautiful and peaceful scene.

The blood-soaked runaways stood silently to one side, not speaking, just watching Wu Chen and awaiting his next command.

But when they recalled how the young man had just mowed down his enemies like grass, an involuntary shiver ran through them.

They didn’t have to wait long—only about the time it takes to drink half a cup of tea.

Wu Chen stood up from the rock.

”Rested already?” Liu Linshan asked in surprise, seeing Wu Chen pick up a saber from the ground.

”Didn’t I tell you I only do two things?”

Wu Chen tossed aside the useless manuals in his hand and said with a smile:

”I’m done reading the Martial Arts manuals.”

”So naturally, it’s time to go kill people!”

The surrounding people were shaken by his words, their eyes filling with respect as they looked at Wu Chen.

’Reading Martial Arts manuals is his way of resting, and once he’s rested, he goes to kill people to hone his skills.’

’When he’s tired of killing, he rests by reading more Martial Arts manuals.’

’No wonder he’s so strong. It’s all because of his sweat and hard work!’

Everyone was left speechless as they watched the seemingly tireless Wu Chen take the lead and head down the mountain.
