Urban All-Round Master

Chapter 1074: Chapter 1108: I’m Not Here to Brag

”Ah, little Su, this is not right. It’s not easy for Inspector Liu to come here for an inspection, and your way of hosting is quite lacking.”

The chief from the provincial office sitting beside her quickly chimed in.

”Chief, I really can’t drink anymore. If I keep drinking, I will truly get drunk.” Su Ni never liked drinking too much; even if she could, she wouldn’t drink with them.

”Little Su, regarding the promotion proposal your father just submitted a few days ago, I think you should go back and tell your father that this matter needs further consideration from above.”

”Why is that! Didn’t the higher-ups already agree to give my father the promotion opportunity? Besides, his performance in this area has qualified him for a promotion.” Su Ni almost stood up in her excitement.

”Hehe, being excited is of no use, it’s not like we make the decisions.”

The two chuckled, clearly hinting that if she didn’t accompany them well, her father’s promotion would be over.

Though they weren’t saying it openly, many people could understand such veiled language these days.

However, Su Ni was the only one who didn’t get it. She was naturally straightforward, preferring to solve problems with her fists rather than her brain.

”Inspector Qi, Chief, if that’s the case, then why did you even want me here? And you didn’t discuss this with my father at all before directly rebuffing his promotion; don’t you think that’s too cruel? My father has worked in this position for so long; even if he hasn’t done outstanding work, he has certainly made efforts. Without such efforts, even fatigue is labor. To reject his promotion just like that seems too inhumane, don’t you think?”

Su Ni’s temper was barely under control. If pushed too far, she might just flip the table and walk out.

”Little Su, I’m not the one in charge here. You should probably seek more help from Inspector Liu; perhaps he can help.”

This person winked at the man named Liu.

At this point, even if Su Ni was slow to catch on, she understood what they meant.

”Sorry, I’m not feeling too well today. I probably can’t finish this meal. Apologies.”

Su Ni abruptly stood up, finished the drink on the table, and prepared to leave.

”Little Su, things can be discussed slowly.”

”Discuss? How do you propose to discuss?”

Su Ni paused in her steps.

”Hehe, little Su, it’s not easy for Inspector Liu to come here for an inspection, and it seems your work is not up to the mark. Come on, let’s not talk business first, let’s chat about everyday life, have a good meal and then talk about other things.”

The fat chief grinned, both remorseful and toasting, finally relaxing Su Ni a bit, who had no choice but to sit back down and accompany them for the meal.

Outside the door, Lin Zifeng’s eyes darted as he quickly sprinted towards the reception on the first floor.

He grabbed some paper and pen and promptly returned.

Knocking on the private room’s door, and without anyone inviting him in, Lin Zifeng swaggered in. Under the astonished gaze of everyone in the room.

This guy sported a wide grin, appearing exceedingly cheerful.

”Nini, so you were in this private room! You had me looking all over. I checked several rooms and couldn’t find you. You really should’ve called or at least sent a message.”

”...”

Su Ni was dumbfounded.

Not understanding what he was talking about.

”Oh, Nini, your father called earlier and said we should head back together tonight. He suggested I take you home. It’s dark and slippery out, and the world is so complicated. How can I feel at ease letting you go home alone without a man?”

Lin Zifeng said seriously, placing the paper and pen on the table with a professional demeanor, and continued, ”Our newspaper recently picked up a pretty big gig. It’s said that things upstairs are messy right now, with several figures fallen and this anti-corruption campaign just beginning. So our paper is going all out, and as long as there’s a whisper of something, I’ll write extensively about it so that the world knows; that’s how I make money.”

The two individuals looked at Lin Zifeng’s ranting, initially amused and disbelieving, but when Lin Zifeng spoke about extensive writing, they got a little scared. Already guilty, how could they not be afraid? Who knows if this person is really from a newspaper?

”By the way, may I ask which newspaper you’re with, brother?”

”The XX Newspaper.”

”How’s the living environment for your newspaper? What changes have happened over the years?”

Inspector Liu asked with a smile.

”Infinite,” Lin Zifeng replied with three words.

The two exchanged a glance, what does ’infinite’ mean?

”Our newspaper has now teamed up with many other media and newspapers, so as long as there’s any hint of a story, I don’t lack work.”

”Ah, this little brother is a reporter?”

The two’s smiles were insincere.

”Not really a reporter, just an amateur paparazzo,” Lin Zifeng gestured casually.

”...”

Su Ni was completely dumbfounded by this guy’s words; she didn’t understand why Lin Zifeng came here.

And why insist on calling himself a paparazzo, but upon seeing Lin Zifeng’s blinking eyes, Su Ni realized he was helping her.

”Ah, yes, I forgot to introduce you. This is Lin Zifeng, quite a renowned journalist in Zhonghai. Though an amateur, he’s uncovered quite a lot. Half of the showbiz’s big and small scandals were leaked by him, and he’s also specialized in...”

Seeing Su Ni’s exaggerated manner.

Lin Zifeng’s face turned green.

I came here just to help you, not to join you in boasting, no need to make me sound so terrifying, okay?

Yet, sitting next to Su Ni, Lin Zifeng’s face turned green too.

He tried to stop her several times, fearing she would blurt out too much.

But...

Damn, no need to exaggerate so much, making me seem like an African secret agent.

”Ahem, that being the case, let’s eat first, shall we? Chat while eating, once the food gets cold, it won’t taste good.”

The inspector Liu twitched his nose slightly.

Su Ni was inwardly delighted; she hadn’t expected this method to work far better than her previous cold refusal.

Often, cold rejection not only lets the other side take control but also makes oneself appear guilty, causing not only failure in handling things but also mishaps, unlike Lin Zifeng’s method.

This taught Su Ni one thing: when it’s the right time to boast, boast big!
