From Broken Family to Life Winner: A Reborn Mother's Journey

Chapter 635: Chapter 634: Kung Fu Master

“Boss, did I do something wrong?”

Su Li and Wu Sheng were silent, but Wa Wa Lian couldn’t be. He cautiously asked Wu Sheng.

Wu Sheng: “…”

Su Li: “…”

Wa Wa Lian was still whimpering. “Doing that… Teacher Xiao Hong must think I’m frivolous. And I took advantage of her when she was vulnerable, right?”

Wu Sheng again: “…”

Su Li again: “…”

Wu Sheng took a deep breath. “So what exactly are you moping about?”

‘It’s not that he said something impulsively, but that he feels he didn’t say it well enough or in the right way?’

Wa Wa Lian was stunned for a moment. “Didn’t I already tell you?”

As Wu Sheng was about to speak, Su Li pushed him aside. “Let me. I’ll ask.”

Su Li looked at Wa Wa Lian and got straight to the point. “Zhang Ming, do you think Xiao Hong is a good person? That you like her?”

Wa Wa Lian nearly exploded. “Sister-in-law, you… how can you be so blunt? I only met her today. How can we talk about liking someone or not? But…”

In the end, Wa Wa Lian mustered his courage. “I really do think she’s a good girl. She’s kind and responsible…”

“A good girl like that, and the man she was being set up with acted that way… If I hadn’t held back, I almost would have gone up and hit him. If I were him, I would never do that. Teacher Xiao Hong is the victim here.”

Seeing Wa Wa Lian’s expression and listening to him ramble on, Su Li got the gist.

“You’re right. That’s exactly how it is,” she agreed.

“See, Sister-in-law? You think I’m right too, don’t you? How could I not stand up for a good girl like her?”

Wa Wa Lian was so moved by Su Li’s validation that he was on the verge of tears.

‘A girl that gentle and frail, being treated like that… it’s enough to make your heart ache for her, yet he had the gall to hurt her!’

Wa Wa Lian himself couldn’t explain why he had been so impulsive and said what he did. But if you asked him seriously, he didn’t regret it. Even if he could do it over, his choice wouldn’t change.

He was annoyed only because he felt it was too impulsive. They weren’t supposed to act like this on a mission; it felt frivolous.

But he really couldn’t hold back.

Teacher Xiao Hong had barely survived. So frail, she had held onto him all night without letting go.

Perhaps because she’d held on to him for so long, Wa Wa Lian had been forced to look at Teacher Xiao Hong the entire time. Even though they barely spoke, he felt she wasn’t a stranger, which made him want to protect her even more.

Su Li looked at Wa Wa Lian and nodded in agreement again. “Yes, you should have stood up for her. If I’d been there, I would have too.”

Su Li paused. “Even if I couldn’t say, ‘If you won’t marry her, I will,’ I could still curse him out a bit.”

Wa Wa Lian, who had been nodding eagerly, froze when he heard the words, “If you won’t marry her, I will.” His face scrunched up like a steamed bun again.

Wu Sheng, watching from the side, now understood what Su Li was getting at. Suppressing a laugh, he stepped forward and patted Wa Wa Lian’s shoulder.

“Well done.”

Wa Wa Lian breathed a sigh of relief.

“Let’s go. We’ll head up and see,” Su Li said. Just as they were about to go up, someone suddenly called out to them.

“Su Li! You’re Su Li, right?”

The excited cry made Su Li turn around. She saw a few familiar-looking people holding lunch boxes.

“Oh, hello! Are you getting food?” Su Li remembered they were the parents of the missing children she had interviewed before.

“Yes, we were just getting food. It really is you!” The newcomers were the parents of four of the children—three women and one man. They were incredibly emotional and walked up to Su Li. Before she could react, they suddenly bowed deeply.

“Su Li, thank you. We saw what happened and read the reports. Thank you for saving our children.”

Su Li, along with Wu Sheng and Wa Wa Lian beside her, hurriedly helped them up.

“Please, get up. You don’t have to be so formal.” ‘A ninety-degree bow… that’s too much.’

“Just a ‘thank you’ is nothing. For saving their lives, even kowtowing wouldn’t be too much.”

After straightening up, the group noticed Wu Sheng and Wa Wa Lian and bowed again.

“Oh, and you two! You must be Wu Sheng, and you, little brother. Thank you. We’re so, so grateful to you for helping rescue the children.”

Another round of bowing and thanking ensued, followed by another round of persuasion to stop, before things finally settled down.

However, the commotion had already attracted everyone’s attention. People stopped to watch, creating a lively scene. They even recognized Su Li and Wu Sheng.

“That’s them, from the news. The girl is a reporter named Su Li. She’s amazing, a good person.”

“Yeah, they’re the ones who saved those elementary school students. That man is Wu Sheng.”

Completely inexperienced with being suddenly mobbed, Su Li and Wu Sheng were a bit dazed. After greeting everyone, they hurried upstairs.

But as they went, they were constantly stared at. More people recognized them and called out their names.

Su Li rubbed her nose. “I suddenly feel like a celebrity.”

Wu Sheng reached up and scratched his brow. “I’m not used to this.”

Wa Wa Lian tagged along, a look of confusion on his face, staring at Su Li and Wu Sheng just like everyone else.

He hadn’t had a chance to see the news yet, so he was completely clueless about the situation.

Su Li and Wu Sheng had come mainly to see the rescued children and Teacher Xiao Hong. It was just a hospital visit—if it was a good time, they’d go in; if not, they’d just ask a doctor and leave.

But the moment Su Li and the others peeked into a ward from the outside, they were engulfed by the crowd’s enthusiasm.

After entering the first ward, Su Li and her group could barely get out.

The parents were incredibly enthusiastic, thanking them endlessly. The children, who had been listless or sick, perked up when they saw them and stared intently.

Su Li and Wu Sheng stood in the middle, surrounded by warmth. Su Li believed that if this were a more modern era, they would definitely be surrounded by everyone’s phones, being photographed from all angles.

“I heard the big sister singing outside.”

“I heard it too. Her voice is so beautiful.”

The tone-deaf Su Li felt a bit guilty hearing the praise and absolutely refused to sing a second time.

‘Singing again in front of such a large audience? I’d die of embarrassment!’

The ward was so lively that the doctors and nurses didn’t intervene. The crowd in the room only grew, until finally, Cook and Alice arrived.

They had heard that Su Li and Wu Sheng were here and had rushed over.

Alice’s eyes lit up the moment she saw Su Li and Wu Sheng. She greeted them loudly, “Kung Fu Big Brother! Pretty Big Sister!”

She had quite a few bruises and some were covered with gauze, but she acted as if she wasn’t injured at all, squeezing through the crowd on her own.

Cook followed behind, squeezing his way through while muttering an awkward “Sorry.”

Cook and Alice had been in the Imperial City for a month and weren’t yet fluent in the Huaguo language, but they could manage daily phrases.

Things like “hello” and “sorry,” for example, though their accents were nothing to write home about.

Being small and agile, Alice squeezed through and clung to Su Li’s leg, refusing to let go.

“Big Sister, I love you.”

She said those three words, “I love you,” in the Huaguo language. It was the first phrase she had learned.
