The Duke's Pampered Darling is So Scheming

Chapter 634: Chapter 634: If You’ll Excuse Me

The sanpaku-eyed guard seemed to have expected this, sneering as he lashed out with a vicious kick!

King Yan Nan let out a muffled grunt, his face paling, but he bore the pain without retreating a single step.

”You really don’t know what’s good for you!”

The guard jutted his chin at the other man, who, in a flash, had King Yan Nan bound tightly, his movements swift and efficient.

King Yan Nan tried to say something, but the guard behind him suddenly twisted his jaw.

With a sickening CRACK, King Yan Nan’s jaw was dislocated. He could no longer utter a single word.

”Not bad, you’ve got some moves!” The sanpaku-eyed guard gave a thumbs-up at his partner’s speed. He then stepped forward and, with a derisive chuckle, tapped King Yan Nan’s cheek with his sword hilt. ”Since you insist on doing this the hard way,” he threatened in a low voice, ”don’t blame us for what comes next!”

A storm of emotions surged through King Yan Nan’s chest, but he had no way to vent them. The veins on his forehead bulged.

’On any other day, I wouldn’t have given two lowly guards like these a second thought. But now... I’m utterly helpless!’

The sanpaku-eyed guard walked to the door and knocked twice.

Soon, another person walked in.

Catching sight of the figure out of the corner of his eye, King Yan Nan’s eyes flew wide open!

The man was powerfully built. To the king’s astonishment, he was wearing an identical set of clothes!

Hearing the commotion, the man glanced in their direction.

King Yan Nan’s heart sank. The man’s facial structure and features were unmistakably similar to his own—at least a sixty to seventy percent match!

”What’s taking so long?” the man pressed, frowning.

Though inwardly annoyed, the sanpaku-eyed guard didn’t dare show it. He forced a laugh. ”We’re just about to go. It’s just that this King Yan Nan put up a fight... Speaking of which, your vocal impression still needs some work. Wouldn’t want anyone to see through the act later.”

”That’s not your concern,” the man cut in coldly.

”Just focus on completing the task our master gave you.”

”...Understood.”

Swallowing his resentment, the sanpaku-eyed guard exchanged a look with his partner. They threw a burlap sack over King Yan Nan’s head and dragged him outside.

CREAK—

As the door swung open and shut, the real was swapped for the fake.

...

The moment King Yan Nan saw the man who looked so much like him, he knew what was happening.

He was filled with a raging mix of grief and indignation.

’These people are obviously planning to pass off a fake as the real thing!’

’This scheme would not only deceive the court, but it would also completely seal my fate!’

King Yan Nan was certain that once he was taken from this place, his captors could kill him at any moment.

’I have to find a way to escape!’

He couldn’t see a thing and had no strength in his limbs. All he could do was try to memorize the route they were taking him on, hoping to find the right moment to escape.

It seemed that with the arrival of the officials from the court, everything in the residence had returned to normal, and the number of guards had been drastically reduced.

’The Southern Hu people have probably all gone into hiding...’

”He just got lucky, happening to look a little like King Yan Nan, and that’s the only reason he got this important job. Does he really think that makes him something special?!”

The sanpaku-eyed guard was still grumbling indignantly.

”If he messes up and gives the game away, I’d like to see how he explains himself then! Pfft!”

’Just as I thought.’

King Yan Nan frowned beneath the sack.

’Just sitting here waiting to die is not an option. But... how can I contact the men from the court? How can I tell them everything that’s happened in Long City!?’

The sanpaku-eyed guard kept complaining, then turned back to his partner, looking for agreement.

”Hey, you think so too—huh? Why’d you stop walking?”

The young guard walking beside King Yan Nan had stopped at a secluded corner. He glanced up at the courtyard wall, confirmed that no one was around, and only then did he turn to the other guard and flash a grin.

For some reason, his previously unremarkable face now held a faint, roguish wildness.

”This is where we part ways. I have important business to attend to, so if you’ll excuse me!”
