The Duke's Pampered Darling is So Scheming

Chapter 455: Chapter 455: No Fault Is a Merit

The Eldest Princess was taken aback. ”What do you mean?”

Ye Chutang said, ”Although Your Majesty’s high fever has temporarily subsided, he still needs to rest well. It’s possible the fever could return. Besides that, and more importantly...”

She paused briefly. ”This bout of illness is highly likely to trigger a relapse of Your Majesty’s old ailments.”

Consort Rong grew flustered. ”Old ailments?”

Ye Chutang’s gaze swept impassively over the Eldest Princess’s face. She saw the princess startle, then, as if recalling something, her brow furrowed quickly and her expression darkened slightly.

Ye Chutang retracted her gaze and said, ”Your Majesty must have developed underlying health issues from his years campaigning on the battlefield. They simply haven’t manifested until now because he has been well-cared for over the years.”

Consort Rong murmured, ”This... Your Majesty has been injured before, and one time he almost— Yes, that’s right. Whenever it’s damp and rainy, His Majesty complains of a tightness in his chest. The Imperial Physicians took his pulse, but they never found any problems, so we didn’t think much of it. Who would have thought... this is the root cause?”

Ye Chutang hummed in agreement.

Swords on the battlefield have no eyes, and with the harsh conditions, it was perfectly normal to develop chronic problems.

The Eldest Princess stared at Ye Chutang. ”Chutang, do you have a solution?”

Ye Chutang shook her head.

”It’s a deep-seated illness. It can only be managed slowly over time.”

The Eldest Princess sighed inwardly, finally saying, ”That’s fine as well. For the time being, we’ll have to trouble you to put in the extra effort.”

Before Ye Chutang could reply, Jiang Zhao Yuan, who had rushed over from outside, finally lost his composure and burst in.

”Unacceptable!”

Ye Chutang turned around.

It was clear that Jiang Zhao Yuan was trying his utmost to restrain himself, but his eyes still held a hint of unconcealed anger and dissatisfaction.

The Eldest Princess glanced at him. ”What, does Elder Jiang have an objection?”

Jiang Zhao Yuan suppressed his anger, glanced quickly at Emperor Muwu, and seeing that he was indeed awake, took a deep breath. ”Your humble servant, Jiang Zhao Yuan, pays his respects to Your Majesty!”

Emperor Muwu seemed utterly exhausted and slowly closed his eyes.

He didn’t even spare Jiang Zhao Yuan a single glance.

He had just dealt with Xiao Chengxuan, so naturally, he now found Jiang Zhao Yuan and his ilk displeasing as well.

Jiang Zhao Yuan was disgraced, but he couldn’t afford to care.

”Your Majesty! You—”

”His Majesty is unwell and weary. Whatever Elder Jiang wishes to say, he can simply say it to me.”

The Eldest Princess took a step forward, precisely blocking Jiang Zhao Yuan’s line of sight.

Unable to get a response from Emperor Muwu, Jiang Zhao Yuan could only turn his frustrated gaze to the Eldest Princess.

”Eldest Princess, please don’t misunderstand. Your humble servant has no other intention. I just heard you imply that you intend to let Ye Chutang take full responsibility for His Majesty’s health?”

His brows were knitted tightly.

”Second Miss Ye’s medical skills are indeed excellent, but she is still young. How can she possibly bear such a responsibility!? In your humble servant’s opinion, this matter should still be handed over to the Imperial Hospital—”

”The Imperial Hospital?” The Eldest Princess let out a laugh with an ambiguous meaning. ”Are you referring to Doctor Zhou and the others?”

Zhou Kangxue’s face instantly burned with shame.

The Eldest Princess hadn’t said anything more, but that one rhetorical question was tantamount to slapping him across the face in public!

Who didn’t know that it was precisely because they had failed to bring down the Emperor’s fever that the Eldest Princess had forcefully sent for Ye Chutang?

In this situation, how could he have the gall to step up and take the job?

If His Majesty got better, it would be one thing. But if his condition fluctuated and something went wrong, then—

Zhou Kangxue knelt down, trembling.

”Your humble servant is incompetent!”

Jiang Zhao Yuan hadn’t expected him to pull a stunt like this and was furious.

’Pathetic!’

’These wastes of space from the Imperial Hospital are just terrified of taking responsibility!’
