The Duke's Pampered Darling is So Scheming

Chapter 441: Chapter 441: Prescription

The next day, Ye Jingyan and Ye Yunfeng returned to the Imperial College together.

However, their reasons for going were very different this time.

——Ye Yunfeng paid a personal visit to Tang Zhongli to offer his resignation.

After hearing him out, Tang Zhongli showed no surprise. He simply said:

”Feng Zhang already mentioned this to me yesterday. Since you’re here today, I take it your big sister agreed?”

Ye Yunfeng nodded. ”Yes.”

Tang Zhongli stroked his beard and sighed.

”So be it! If she’s agreed, then this old man has even less reason to stand in your way!”

He had taught countless students, and he could tell with a single glance whether someone was cut out for scholarly pursuits.

Ye Yunfeng truly wasn’t cut out for it.

But even so, he hadn’t expected Ye Chutang to actually be at ease with Ye Yunfeng following Feng Zhang to join the army just like that.

Fortunately, both Ye Chutang and Feng Zhang were people with strong opinions. Since they felt it was fine, he naturally wouldn’t interfere too much.

”In that case, very well.” Tang Zhongli pushed an envelope toward him, his expression uncharacteristically gentle. ”Since you’ve made up your mind, just go. If you regret it, you can always come back.”

Ye Yunfeng looked stunned.

”Lord Sacrificial Officer, what is this...?”

”Among the students of the Imperial College, there are those who study to become officials, and there are those who compete in martial arts and join the army. But you’re the first to go serve on the frontier at such a young age.”

Tang Zhongli was a man who cherished talent.

Ye Yunfeng’s courage was exceedingly rare; he would surely accomplish great things in the future.

He patted Ye Yunfeng’s shoulder.

Although he didn’t say anything, Ye Yunfeng felt a surge of warmth.

He accepted the envelope and bowed deeply.

”Thank you, Lord Sacrificial Officer!”

...

「Yunlai Tavern.」

Today, it was as bustling as ever.

Ye Chutang led Xiao Wu by the hand into the innermost private room.

The Shopkeeper presented the ledger that had already been prepared.

”Second Miss, please take a look.”

Ye Chutang didn’t come often, but she was well aware of all the income and cash flow, checking on it periodically.

She took the ledger, gave it a quick flip-through, and then handed it to Xiao Wu, who was beside her.

”Take a look.”

Xiao Wu’s eyes sparkled as she eagerly took it with both hands and began to read.

The Shopkeeper was already used to this sight.

In any other family, a child of her age wouldn’t just be unable to read a ledger; they likely couldn’t even recognize all the characters in it.

But Xiao Wu was different.

She had an excellent memory and was exceptionally skilled at mental arithmetic. After looking through a ledger, she could spot any mistakes almost immediately.

He had no idea how she could find something so dull so fascinating.

Ye Chutang, however, was long accustomed to it.

After all, in Xiao Wu’s eyes, it wasn’t a ledger, but rather...

One thousand taels.

Two thousand taels.

Three thousand taels...

When Xiao Wu finished the last page, she already had a clear grasp of the profits. After silently recalculating everything in her head three times, she cheerfully handed the ledger back.

’Big sis! So much money!’

Ye Chutang felt this Little Bun was a lost cause.

She turned her head to the Shopkeeper and said, ”You’ve done a good job.”

The Shopkeeper shook his head modestly. ”You flatter me.”

In the end, this tavern had been single-handedly established by Ye Chutang.

Whether it was the wine or the unique business model, she was the decisive factor behind its booming success.

Anyone in his position could have done just as well.

Ye Chutang smiled. ”The weather’s getting colder, and everyone’s been working hard. Starting this month until the new year, everyone will get an extra monthly heating allowance.”

”What?”

The Shopkeeper was taken aback.

Ye Chutang couldn’t be bothered to explain and said bluntly, ”Give them a raise.”

The Shopkeeper understood and his face immediately lit up with joy.

”Thank you, Second Miss!”

He had worked for others before, but when it came down to it, truly no one could compare to Ye Chutang!

Intelligent and decisive, she could assess any situation, and she was also extremely generous.

Who wouldn’t want to work for a person like that?

The Shopkeeper thanked her several more times, then remembered something else and spoke with a serious expression.

”Right, Second Miss, yesterday a guest in the adjacent private room left a letter. He said it was specifically for you. Would you like to see it?”

Ye Chutang was quite surprised. ”Oh? Who?”

The Shopkeeper thought for a moment, then shook his head.

”I don’t know him. But from the looks of it, he was richly dressed, not from an ordinary family.”

As he spoke, he took the letter from his sleeve and handed it over. On it was clearly written: For Ye Chutang’s eyes only.

Ye Chutang took it and opened the letter.

Xiao Wu leaned in curiously, only to see a single, thin sheet of paper inside.

When she looked closely, her eyes widened in even greater surprise.

Because on it was written a medical prescription.

Xiao Wu looked at Ye Chutang in confusion.

’What kind of person would specifically write a prescription for Big Sis?’

Ye Chutang looked at it for a moment, then suddenly smiled.

”I understand. You may leave now. Do not speak of this matter.”

The Shopkeeper immediately replied, ”Yes. Rest assured, he gave me this letter personally. It didn’t pass through anyone else’s hands.”

Ye Chutang nodded in satisfaction.

The man Yin Shaoting had chosen was indeed cautious and thorough, leaving no room for error.

The Shopkeeper bowed again and then retreated.

From start to finish, he never asked who wrote the letter, let alone how Ye Chutang planned to reply.

He was a truly rare and intelligent man.

After he left, Ye Chutang looked at the prescription in her hand again.

There was no signature on it, only a few lines of medicinal names.

She looked at it for a moment, then raised her hand and burned the letter to ash.

In the blink of an eye, the flames had completely devoured the thin sheet of paper.

’This His Highness Prince Lie is truly cautious, to think of such a method to have me verify if there’s a problem with this prescription.’

’He doesn’t even trust the Imperial Hospital, yet he’s willing to trust me.’

’Truly...’

Xiao Wu cupped her cheeks in her hands.

’From the looks of it, Big Sis already knows who wrote this letter?’

Ye Chutang lowered her head slightly, lost in thought.

’Should I wade into these muddy waters...?’
