Myths Reawakened

“Damn old man, he didn’t show up...”

Inside the living room of his residence, Wayne muttered to himself under his breath. The current Darkness Knight was so cautious that he never walked into a high-level battle until absolutely necessary, giving Wayne no opening.

With heaven as his witness, Wayne swore that he had no ulterior motives. He just wanted to kick Auston’s ass and launch him like a human cannonball.

Hestia and Olga stood behind Wayne as usual, but not Hesione. The Lord of Deceit’s divine teachings riled her up better than any sweet confessions. She voluntarily sat on the Anointed One’s pointing stick and shifted now and then, hoping to get more intimate with his stick of divinity.

What the heaven? Do you want to become light too?

This is strange. This is two hundred percent wrong.

Wayne wondered what she was thinking and figured out her kink after some consideration. He checked the time. They were setting out in the morning, so he still had time for her. He patted her on the bottom, telling her to follow him upstairs.

Inside the bedroom, he recited the Sacred Tome to her. It was more effective than he had expected.

Outside, Olga crossed her arms and shook her head, while Hestia got into an existential crisis once more.

Again, she didn’t understand why she wasn’t good enough for Wayne.

June nineteenth, six in the morning.

Wayne led three reincarnated angels to the manor of the Holy Maiden of Darkness, refreshed. All the strong individuals he had recruited gathered in the back garden: Corte, Galen, and Anastasia, the three Holy Maidens; Darienne, Vichy, and Valkyrie, the three knights; Hesione, Hestia, and Olga, the three angels.

Wayne would round the number up to ten, making them a proper party of heroes. He was certain that with such a strong army, victory would be within reach!

Wayne looked at the manor’s main house and called out toward the living room, “Sukra, we’ve got the Holy Maidens of three churches here. You’re the only one missing. Aren’t you going to fight for the Church of Death’s honor?”

No one responded. She had to be playing dead.

Wayne shook his head and didn’t press.

Sukra had endured a lifetime of suffering, so she now wanted nothing more than to have someone provide for her until Death returned and relieved her of her duty. A slacker like that wouldn’t be able to scrounge up the necessary faith and determination in battles even if she could step onto the battlefield. Dragging her with them would only harm her.

“Besides, the Holy Maiden of Death isn’t around, but the Death Knight is...” Wayne murmured to himself. He no longer had to worry about exposing that disguise. Drawing Shadow Nightmare from the void, he extended his senses and sent it away.

“Let’s go!”

As soon as Wayne jumped through space, Forest detected the disturbance in Londan. Since he had remained in hiding, with no one knowing the truth about his existence, he was able to stay one step ahead of everyone.

“Wayne’s heading to... Prussia?”

“Why there? And he’s taken so many beautiful ladies with him... As expected of the Anointed One. Even an orgy he held is high quality.”

Forest frowned deeply. He had the experience to say that the location of an orgy didn’t matter. There was no reason for Wayne to throw a party in Prussia.

Why, then, would he head there?

***

Berlo, Prussia.

In wartime, Berlo remained peaceful. Although the mustached Führer had suddenly acted like a fool and started another battlefront, Berlo, the capital, remained unaffected. Prussia hadn’t mobilized all her population at this moment.

No matter how others thought of the mustached Führer, in today’s Prussia, he had absolute popular support.

Chancellery of the New Reich.

The group of ten split into four units: the three angels, Anastasia and Vichy, Corte, Galen, Valkyrie, and Darienne, and Wayne on his own.

The units were arranged to avoid internal conflicts. Since the goddesses would be taking over today, a lack of division would lead to infighting.

Yes, he was talking about Ines.

That woman was a veteran instigator who could easily rile up the whole group. No one other than Vichy could be Her teammate.

Wayne made a gesture, telling the three units to each take one corner of the triangle. Then he sauntered through the front door of the chancellery like he owned the place.

His friendly smile gave him free passage with no scrutiny. Every once in a while, guards would even acknowledge him with a nod, as if he worked here.

After his departure, the three goddesses descended through their Holy Maidens.

Siluk scowled at her unreliable knight. “Darienne, have you completed the oracle?”

Can’t you be a little less direct, Goddess? Darienne thought. You’re losing your aloof image by urging me.

“My goddess,” she bowed with an awkward smile, “I’ve been doing my best, but the decision is in Wayne’s hands. You know him. I’m already in line with a numbered ticket.”

“Don’t you know how to cut in line?”

“How?!”

Seek out Kristen or Filomina. They’ll definitely help you.

Siluk knew the correct answer, but there were things She couldn’t put into words if She didn’t want to damage her image. She hoped that Her unprofessional knight would get a clue on her own.

Darienne lowered her head and said weakly, “Goddess, what do you think about making Kristen the Holy Maiden and Filomina the next Moonlight Knight?”

Are you the goddess, or am I?

Under Siluk’s icy gaze, Darienne spread her hands and said resignedly, “You may not believe it, but Wayne does not want me in that way. Even if I cut in line, he’ll just skip me.”

“Why? Don’t you like him?”

“Me? Like him?!” Darienne stared, but cowered when Siluk stared back. “Alright, I do have some affection for him because he’s a good card player. I’ve wanted to win a game against him for a long time.”

“And?”

“Because of misunderstandings, though, he finds my character not up to his standards. He believes a person’s character is shown at the card table.”

Siluk opened her mouth but couldn’t find the words. She had seen Darienne play cards, and she indeed showed no sportsmanship at all.

Kaleb doubled over with laughter, patting Valkyrie on the shoulder. “See? The Church of Sun doesn’t have the same problem. The knights I’ve handpicked are each more excellent than the last, at least in morality.”

Valkyrie fell silent. That was hard to say. Vera, the next Sun Knight, was very close to Wayne, so close that they had melded together more than a few times. As a result, she had succumbed to his bad influence and gone astray.

Kaleb scanned her and said with surprise, “I didn’t notice before, Cyrus, but you’re also beautiful!”

Valkyrie stiffened and quietly took a small step back.

“Cyrus, I have an oracle for you. It concerns the future of the Divine Realm. Would you take on the important mission?”

“...”

“Say something, Cyrus!”

At another corner of the triangle formation, Hestia was glaring at Hesione’s back. “Śār Hesione has emphasized several times that this mission is crucial. Yet a certain shameless woman seduced him before our departure. Bah, the day had already broken then.”

Olga nodded in agreement. Hestia was right. Said woman had crossed a line, demanding more from the Śār just because he favored her. As a result, the Śār’s purity had become even more stained.

Hesione blushed, staying silent after a huff. In her post-coital clarity, she had regretted her action, too. She had gone too far this morning. It wasn’t like her.

She shouldn’t be blamed, though. The Anointed One was too tempting while he recited the Sacred Tome and translated the text. How could it be wrong for her to wait for his baptism like a pilgrim?

Her intention was good!

“Say something, wench!”

“There’s nothing to say, Frey,” Hesione said coolly. “Once we’re back in Heaven, I’ll have ample time to teach you a lesson.”

“Ha, you’ll be exposed once we return to Heaven. Who knows? Maybe I’ll be the one to teach you a lesson!” Hestia shot back, but a fear she didn’t understand compelled her to tug at Olga’s sleeve. “My friend, you must take my side then and watch me beat her up.”

“Of course.”

Olga nodded seriously. The clergywoman was tasked with impersonating the Śār, but she ended up believing the lie.

Thrones are annoying! Hesione cursed in her head.

In the third corner, Vichy was facing her goddess. A bead of cold sweat dripped down her forehead.

“Vichy...”

“Goddess.”

“I haven’t finished speaking. Who gave you permission to interrupt me? Are you trying to rebel?” Ines cornered Vichy with a cold smile. “I get it now. Do you think you’ve become my equal just because you’ve kissed Wayne? Do you not take me, the Goddess of Darkness, seriously?”

Drenched in sweat, Vichy hurriedly shook her head and emphasized her loyalty.

Her loyalty was unquestionable, and Ines had never questioned it. However, an employer would even use the fact that their subordinate had stepped into the office with their left foot first as an excuse to threaten them. It was unreasonable, but an employer didn’t have to be reasonable.

Vichy’s back was pressed against the wall. When Ines lifted her chin, she said while sweating profusely, “My goddess, I have no intention of offending Sir Wayne. I can explain last night’s accident.”

“Explain, then. Tell me which shameless shrew set you up!”

That effectively invalidated whatever explanation Vichy could give.

When a goddess was being shameless, there was nothing Her chosen knight could do. Even though Vichy knew the truth, her obligation and duty stopped her from speaking up.

“Speak. Who is the shameless shrew?”

“Me. It’s me.” Vichy broke down and gave up on herself. “No one set me up. I seduced Mr. Wayne. I am to blame for everything.”

“Would you do it again?”

How should I know?

“Speak!”

“Next time... next time... Perhaps I would.” Vichy knew that the goddess would do it again, and out of loyalty, she bravely accepted the blame.

“I knew it. You want to be more than a knight. You’re ambitious and want to get stronger, so you set your sights on my pet.” Ines sneered, pinching her face. “What a cold face with such a reserved temperament when you actually covet him. If you’re salivating over my pet now, wouldn’t you be looking to replace me tomorrow?”

(╥﹏╥)

“How insolent. Thankfully, I noticed the signs early, or you might just get what you want. Let me think. How should I take care of you...” Ines put on a thoughtful look, then her eyes lit up. “How about I bed the pretty face with your body before you can do it?”

I think not.

“I think not. Then you’ll get all the benefits. Why would I offer you free lunch?” Ines shook her head cryptically. Then she added in a sarcastic tone, “Did you feel your heart skip a beat? Because you thought I was doing it?”

“No-no.”

“Bastard, why didn’t you feel that? What’s wrong with my boy toy? Do you think he’s beneath you?”

“...”

Vichy wished to be mute at this moment. She was tired. She longed for death.

“I’ll give you a mission!” Ines pointed at her face, aggrieved. “Anastasia is a nuisance. She’s gentle, generous, beautiful, and has a great body. You should put in a bad word for her when you’re with Wayne—the more the better. Do you understand?”

Goddess, are you seriously getting competitive with your Holy Maiden?
